Prince Harry explored changing surname to Spencer, says Guardian report

LONDON - Prince Harry and his wife Meghan explored the idea of changing their family name to Spencer amid months of delays in their two children receiving British passports, the Guardian newspaper reported on Wednesday.
Harry, the Duke of Sussex, believed that the passport delays were the result of British officials blocking the applications over the use of the Sussex surname and HRH titles (his or her royal highness) for his children, the newspaper said, citing an unnamed source.
A source with knowledge of the matter told Reuters that the prince had a meeting with his late mother Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, to discuss the family name.
The source also said other media reports which said Spencer had advised Harry against changing his surname and that the legal hurdles to doing so were insurmountable, were inaccurate.
Harry, the younger son of King Charles, stepped down from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, where he lives with Meghan and their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
Since leaving, he and Meghan have been highly critical of the royals in TV documentaries, an explosive interview with U.S. chat show host Oprah Winfrey and most notably in Harry's best-selling biography 'Spare.' The prince is barely on speaking terms with either his father or his elder brother, heir to the throne Prince William.
In a BBC interview last month, Harry said he wanted reconciliation with the British royal family, but that his father King Charles will not speak to him over a separate row about his security.

‘Community building community': Hundreds gather on the green in Wortley Village

'It's Wortley Village, it's Old South to a tee but I think what is really the key, it's the community building community,' said Circelli. 'We've got Old South and the larger context of the City of London helping out. The London Music Awards and the Digital Creative Arts Centre at BGC London is providing all of the audio production with our paid staff and our volunteers. So it's a whole bunch of folks coming together to build community in London.' Circelli credits the dedicated board of directors at OSCO for making this event come together annually. 'There's over 100 craft artisans, we're selling food and the entertainment, the dunk tank and activities for the kids, the day is fantastic.'

Cynthia Erivo's new album makes her feel "totally naked"
Cynthia Erivo is feeling vulnerable. She's a musical theatre veteran and the star of last year's film adaptation of Wicked, but putting out her album I Forgive You feels completely different. "Whilst it is scary, I think that's also the most exciting thing," Erivo tells Q 's Tom Power. "I get to give people a part of myself that I haven't really given before.… This feels totally naked." One of her biggest epiphanies is that she needs to heal from the pain of her fractured relationship with her father. Erivo says her desire for his approval was causing her to overwork herself. "After that split [from my father], it starts to become about, 'I wanna prove to you that I am lovable,'" Erivo says. "And that's when it started becoming like, 'I'm going to do well every single time, because you're going to realize that you've lost something.'... This last couple of years has definitely been about letting [my younger self] let go of that kind of anger." In addition to starring in the hit movie Wicked opposite Ariana Grande, she also spent a decade performing in London's West End and on Broadway. "I did a tour of Sister Act in the UK…. That changed everything." says Erivo. "Then The Color Purple happened.… I remember being in the room and singing with the [musical director], and by the end, they were in tears.… Then whilst we were doing the show in London, I get called into the office, and they're like, 'Hey, [The Color Purple] is going to Broadway. We're gonna take you with it.' That changed my life.… And it just keeps going on." Even though she has a top notch musical theatre resume, Erivo says that she went through the same audition process for Wicked as everyone else. She had meetings with director Jon M. Chu, then a long audition day with acting out scenes, performing songs, and trying chemistry tests with other actors. It was an intense process — especially because she was also juggling other high-stakes jobs around the same time. "[The audition] was the day after I'd sung at the [Walt Disney Concert] Hall with the L.A. Philharmonic," Erivo explains. "It was like this weird juxtaposition of things happening at the same time. So, 'Go and do this giant gig, this giant moment with the Philharmonic… and then come in the next day, and be ready to be Elphaba'.… And then I was in London shooting [ Luther: The Fallen Sun ] with Idris Elba. Again, very wild for me." Cynthia Erivo's life runs at a non-stop pace, and she can barely take in all her success. Like her character Elphaba in Wicked, she always felt different than everyone else — to this day, she still feels like she doesn't fit in. It's hard for her to wrap her head around being popular. "My life has been like a constant sort of ticking over of things that keep surprising me," Erivo says. "I'm endlessly grateful for the fact that life keeps bringing me wonderful surprises. A knighthood is coming for soon-to-be Sir David Beckham, according to media reports
David Beckham, the former England soccer captain who has been an ambassador for the UN children's fund for two decades, is to receive a knighthood in next week's honours list from King Charles III, according to U.K. media reports Friday. Without citing sources, BBC said Beckham is set to receive further recognition both for his soccer career, and his contributions to British society. The knighthood will make Beckham "Sir David," while his wife since 1999, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, will become "Lady Beckham." In 2003, Beckham was awarded the Order of the British Empire, or OBE, for services to soccer. Victoria Beckham got the same honour for services to the fashion industry in a later New Year Honours list. Honours are awarded twice a year, once at New Year's, and then in June to mark the king's birthday. They are mostly made on the recommendation of the government, though the monarch has input too. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office would not confirm the press reports, as is custom. Buckingham Palace declined to comment. The Associated Press has not been able to independently confirm the award of the knighthood, which was first reported in The Sun tabloid newspaper. In video footage published by The Sun from the Chelsea Flower Show earlier this month, the King is seen asking Beckham if he "received his 50th birthday present." The King appeared to say "I'm glad it got to you," with Beckham responding, "It was incredible, thank you, it was very kind." Beckham and the King have crossed paths on numerous occasions, including at state functions. Last year, Beckham became an ambassador for The King's Foundation, an educational and sustainability charity Charles launched in 1990. Beckham known for sports career Beckham, who is clearly a patriot, is the only English soccer player to score at three different World Cups and his illustrious career included the treble-winning campaign of 1999, when Manchester United won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League. With 115 appearances for the England national team, Beckham is third in the all-time list. He also captained the side on 59 occasions. After leaving Manchester United 2003, Beckham played for Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy and Paris Saint-Germain. He now co-owns the MLS team Inter Miami. His career wasn't always at a high, though. After the 1998 World Cup in France, Beckham was widely vilified for his petulant kick of Argentina player Diego Simeone, which saw him sent off. Many fans blamed him for England's exit. In 2023's Netflix documentary series Beckham, he described the abuse he experienced, which included an effigy of him hanging from a noose outside a London pub. "I knew it was bad at the time, but going over that whole thing was quite a tough one," he told the AP. The four-part documentary series about Beckham's life and professional career scored him an Emmy in 2024 for outstanding documentary or non-fiction series. Beckham has been a style icon and celebrity and has been a prominent supporter of charities, including UNICEF, which created the David Beckham UNICEF Fund in 2015 to mark a decade's partnership between the two. Beckham also played a pivotal role in London being awarded the Summer Olympic Games in 2012. If the knighthood is confirmed, Beckham would join an elite group of British soccer players to have been knighted, including England's 1966 World Cup winners, Geoff Hurst and Bobby Charlton, and Scotland's Kenny Dalglish.
