Rachael Blackmore makes retirement admission months on from decision
The Grand National and Gold Cup winner announced her retirement from the saddle back in May and told ITV Racing on Thursday how she has been enjoying it so far, with a night out at Oasis planned in the coming weeks.
"Retirement's going well," she said. "I'm enjoying it so far and I'm doing a lot of things I probably haven't been able to do for the last few years. This week is definitely very different as I'm not heading to Ballybrit [Galway].
"The Oasis tickets have been purchased and I'm seeing them next month. I'm doing all those things you have to say no to as a jockey, like all those invites to friends' barbecues and other things. There's pluses to retirement too."
The 36-year-old also reflected on some of her biggest achievements on the track and working with Henry de Bromhead.
"It's incredible to look now at everything and really take it all in," she said. "There's so many moments that were such joy and elation. Having my first winner on A Plus Tard at Cheltenham was just phenomenal. Henry [De Bromhead] put lots of faith in me and it was a good job I delivered because he was a Gold Cup winner in waiting.
"Honeysuckle's last win [in the Mares' Hurdle] was sensational. It was something I'll never, ever forget. It was phenomenal. The moment of crossing the line in the Grand National I felt I could burst with joy too. There were so many moments and I was so lucky."
Blackmore still hasn't decided what she'll do next, but says she will figure it out over the coming weeks.
"It was a difficult decision, but I wanted it to be a hard decision," she explained. "I thought after Cork that if my aim wasn't to get back to Cheltenham, then maybe it was time to stop.
"When I was riding I never wanted to spend any time thinking about what I wanted to do when I finished. I'll do that over the summer and figure it out."

Every single one of Mullins' six winners has been sent off odds-on favourite for the 2m½f Flat race. While none of them went onto become household names, the three he has entered for this year's renewal all boast fascinating pedigrees. Certainly good enough to suggest one of them could burst through into his top tier for the upcoming season. Mullins has also entered fellow five-year-old La Confiner, a No Risk At All mare who will be making her debut as well for owner Brendan O'Sullivan. He is by globe-trotting middle-distance superstar Highland Reel and out of Stops A Nation - a half-sister to Mullins' beloved Wicklow Brave. A 'horse of a lifetime', Wicklow Brave won just shy of £1million with 17 wins from 59 races before being fatally injured in the 2019 American Grand National. Advertisement Stops A Nation, who was also trained by Mullins, won a Tramore bumper on debut in April 2019 and is also a half-sister to the former John Gosden mare Brass Ring, who won four times over staying trips. Mullins will make his final declarations for the race on Wednesday. He is busy readying his massive squad for the 2025-26 National Hunt season - but will go into it without two big names. And jumps fans could be in for an early treat should he start his season in the John Durkan Chase at Punchestown once more. Gavin Cromwell revealed his Gold Cup winner Inothewayurthinkin is likely to run there first time out. That means this year's Gold Cup 1-2 could have the first of a few head-to-heads there at the end of November. Cromwell senior, who is one of Ireland's top racing trainers, was present to join in the celebrations as 13-year-old Jake won aboard the highly-rated Little Chief on Saturday after leading from the front. And Jake left the famous county Kerry track with two wins over the course of the three-day as he was victorious on Little Chief on Sunday as well. It brings his haul of winners to 13 this term, including a treble at Navan in mid-June. Cromwell is hoping that Inothewayurthinkin, already the favourite for next year's Gold Cup, can emulate the back to back success of Al Boum Photo and Galopin Des Champs in recent years.
