Parking changes on the way for downtown Sioux Falls
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Some big changes are coming to downtown Sioux Falls.
Beginning May 1, meters will be enforced six days a week, and that's not all.
A new city law will prevent pickups, vans and SUVs that are more than 18 feet long from parking on Phillips Avenue between ninth and 13th streets.

'These 140 spaces will be restricted to shorter vehicles that increase traffic flow and prevent safety issues,' Sioux Falls parking manager Matt Nelson said.
You'll need to leave at least 10 feet between the back of your car and the yellow center line. Weather permitting, the city plans to paint a white line, in place of dashes that are currently on Phillips Avenue, on Sunday night.
'This is a visual cue for customers so they know if they're in violation or not,' Nelson said.
If your vehicle goes over the line, you could get hit with a $15 fine.
'That rule, it'll probably prevent me from parking where I parked today,' Chase Iron Eyes said.
Iron Eyes drives a Ford F-150 and says the ordinance is a necessary change.
'I think for downtown, for places that could potentially see some congestion, I think it's a good idea,' Iron Eyes said.
There will also be a new option to pay for parking. Starting May 1, you'll be able to use the Text to Park feature.
'It's just an option to pay with your own phone at any parking meter or any parking zone by simply texting a word or a code to 25023,' Nelson said.
City officials say these changes will make downtown Sioux Falls more accessible and increase business.
Also starting May 1, parking meter enforcement will include Saturdays. This means you'll need to pay for parking downtown from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. However, you can still park for free in ramps and lots all weekend and after 5 p.m. during the week.
