Today, he runs The HUB SD, and he and his wife also own a Sioux Falls restaurant. He unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the Sioux Falls City Council in 2020. 'In the Senate, I'll fight to enforce the checks and balances our Constitutiondemands and reject the influence of big money and tech monopolies threatening our freedoms—whether it's harvesting private data or undermining rural businesses. Pleas of not guilty entered in Hibachi Grill case

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Three people with links to Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet in Sioux Falls had pleas of not guilty entered on their behalf by a judge in federal court Wednesday. The suspects are in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. Court documents say the restaurant's former owner Hui Weng and former manager Min Lin along with accomplice Jin Ju Pan worked together 'to encourage and induce aliens, for the purpose of commercial advantage and private financial gain, to come to, enter and reside in the United States.' This was allegedly done 'knowing and in reckless disregard of the fact that the coming to, entry and residence in the United States by the said aliens was in violation of law.' Hibachi Grill staff charged with harboring aliens Per court documents, the defendants allegedly sought to employ workers who didn't have permission to work in the country, with at least one conspirator allowing the foreigners to work at the restaurant without mandating they give evidence of such permission. Court papers say employees were paid with cash after deducting the costs of rent and meals in addition to transportation to and from work. The documents describe an environment in which the employees had to comply, with the court papers stating 'some' conspirators informed workers 'that immigration authorities would be called if the employees did not work hard or do what they were told.' Per city and county records, a home owned by Weng is located near the restaurant. When KELOLAND News stopped by the residence Wednesday, one person at the home said he didn't speak English, and another denied anyone at the house worked at the restaurant. The alleged crimes took place between 2014 and 2023. As part of the investigation, authorities identified more than $285,000 in American dollars in addition to jewelry as items for forfeiture in case of conviction. The restaurant has run afoul of the law before; back in late 2022, the federal Department of Labor announced the restaurant violated the Fair Labor Standards Act. In that case, the federal government recovered more than $250,000 of overtime back wages and damages. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Parking changes on the way for downtown Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Some big changes are coming to downtown Sioux Falls. Beginning May 1, meters will be enforced six days a week, and that's not all. A new city law will prevent pickups, vans and SUVs that are more than 18 feet long from parking on Phillips Avenue between ninth and 13th streets. Hibachi Grill staff charged with harboring aliens 'These 140 spaces will be restricted to shorter vehicles that increase traffic flow and prevent safety issues,' Sioux Falls parking manager Matt Nelson said. You'll need to leave at least 10 feet between the back of your car and the yellow center line. Weather permitting, the city plans to paint a white line, in place of dashes that are currently on Phillips Avenue, on Sunday night. 'This is a visual cue for customers so they know if they're in violation or not,' Nelson said. If your vehicle goes over the line, you could get hit with a $15 fine. 'That rule, it'll probably prevent me from parking where I parked today,' Chase Iron Eyes said. Iron Eyes drives a Ford F-150 and says the ordinance is a necessary change. 'I think for downtown, for places that could potentially see some congestion, I think it's a good idea,' Iron Eyes said. There will also be a new option to pay for parking. Starting May 1, you'll be able to use the Text to Park feature. 'It's just an option to pay with your own phone at any parking meter or any parking zone by simply texting a word or a code to 25023,' Nelson said. City officials say these changes will make downtown Sioux Falls more accessible and increase business. Also starting May 1, parking meter enforcement will include Saturdays. This means you'll need to pay for parking downtown from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. However, you can still park for free in ramps and lots all weekend and after 5 p.m. during the week. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
