Ripponlea synagogue fire: Man charged with arson, endangering life
The 21-year-old from Werribee was arrested on Wednesday, police later saying he was involved in the blaze in which fuel was spread through the house of worship and set alight.
He has now been charged with arson, conduct endangering life and vehicle theft.
The conduct endangering life charge relates to worshippers who were inside the Ripponlea synagogue when it was set alight.
The Werribee man was arrested during one of seven pre-dawn raids across Melbourne on Wednesday morning.
Search warrants were executed at homes in Toorak, Point Cook, Airport West, Hadfield, Werribee, Coburg and Weir Views.
Multiple mobile phones were allegedly seized and will be examined by detectives.
In a major update, police also revealed tobacco war kingpin Kazem 'Kaz' Hamad is part of the ongoing probe into the firebombing.
Earlier this month police announced they had arrested the man accused of stealing the alleged getaway vehicle, a 2020 Volkswagen Golf, used in the attack.

Search for missing 26-year-old Gach Top west of Alice Springs enters fourth day
The search for missing Alice Springs man Gach Top has entered its fourth day, with police continuing to hold serious concerns for his welfare amid near-freezing temperatures in the Red Centre overnight. There was an eerie quiet at the search camp west of the town on Thursday as Mr Top's loved ones climbed out of their cars, hoping for news of their partner, son, brother and friend. The 26-year-old went missing on Monday before his car was found abandoned 14.5 kilometres west of John Flynn's Grave Historical Reserve on the outskirts of Alice Springs the next morning. Mr Top has not been seen or heard from since Monday night. Police and emergency services have so far scoured more than 500 square kilometres of rugged, grassy landscape in their aerial and ground search, in helicopters, by foot and in all-terrain vehicles. Mr Top's father, David Kong, along with members of his family, have been at the centre of search efforts, about 20 kilometres west of Alice Springs. "I actually got the message from his partner midnight on Monday that he didn't show up at work," Mr Kong said. "Then the whole family started panicking, there was no answer when we called [him]. Mr Kong said his son had recently become a father to his own four-week-old child. While Mr Top had previously explored Simpsons Gap with his sister, Mr Kong said, the father was not sure whether he was much of a bushwalker. Acting Sergeant Chris Grotherr said the surrounding MacDonnell Ranges made it "a bit easier in some senses" to focus search efforts. "The area between the range area is quite flat so that is helpful as well, however it is populated by knee-high grass which does make it difficult for ground search teams to locate certain items," he said. The search effort has included more than 50 people from local and Darwin police units, fire and rescue teams and ranger groups. Mr Kong said his family was grateful to everyone who had been searching for his "caring" son. "The whole community, I'm really thankful for the hard work they've been doing for the last few days," he said. Police have described Mr Top as "a six-foot-tall male of Sudanese appearance", with a lean build and short curly hair. He was last seen wearing a red or orange puffer jacket, cream-coloured tracksuit pants and dark-coloured runners. His family and police are urging anyone who may have seen him near Larapinta Drive, Standley Chasm or Simpsons Gap on Monday evening, or who may know his whereabouts, to make contact.

NRL player agents face bans after Port Macquarie schoolboy carnival fight
Don't miss out on the headlines from NRL. Followed categories will be added to My News. Two leading NRL player agents are facing six and nine-month bans and $25,000 in fines after allegedly being involved in an altercation at a schoolboy rugby league carnival. Chris Orr and Nash Dawson were hit with breach notices by the NRL on Thursday after an investigation into the incident during the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League Championships in 2024. Orr, who represents Storm star Jarrome Hughes and Newcastle recruit Dylan Brown, and Dawson, who manages Broncos duo Reece Walsh and Ezra Mam, were cited for breaching the NRL Accredited Player Agent Scheme rules and the Accredited Agents' Code of Conduct. It is also alleged the agents failed to co-operate with the NRL Integrity Unit. In a statement, the NRL declared the agents were 'required to operate with high personal and professional standards' and failed to do so. It's understood the two agents had a physical altercation outside a Port Macquarie pub last year while they were in town for the underage championships. They pair have five business days to respond to the breach notice. Rival player managers Mario Tartak and Matt Desira were issued notices last month for allegedly breaching NRL agent accreditation rules. Sydney resident fed-up over ‘explicit' 2am noises from neighbour
Don't miss out on the headlines from Real Life. Followed categories will be added to My News. A resident in a Sydney apartment says he's fed up after enduring months of 'consistent' loud music, instrument playing and X-rated noises coming from his neighbour's flat beneath him. The man, who took to Reddit to vent, has asked for advice about how to deal with the situation, where he claims he and his partner are subjected to the loud noises between 11pm and 2am. 'Yes, I know it's apartments! You will get noise here and there, and for the most part, I can tolerate it … up until 10pm or so,' he wrote to the forum. He then shared a video he recorded that captured one of the 'songs' his neighbour was singing recently. In the clip, a man is heard singing 'F**k, f**k, f**k,' repeatedly to the sound of what appears to be a guitar background track. He believes the poster has recently gone through a breakup with his girlfriend. Deciding to take matters into his own hands, he attempted to approach the apartment multiple times around midnight on workdays to ask about the singing and instruments. 'Usually (I got) no response or a 'f**k off' shouted from wherever he is,' he said. He also said another neighbour had tried a similar approach and even 'banged on his door' with little success. The Redditor claimed this was a consistent issue, but only provided video evidence of this one occasion. A man has taken to Reddit to share a video of a loud neighbour singing an expletive-filled song. Picture: Reddit Lawyer weighs in Strata lawyer, Amanda Farmer, told that the resident should contact the strata manager (if there is one) or find out who the secretary of the strata committee is. 'This noisy neighbour is potentially breaching the by-laws, and the committee can issue an official 'notice to comply',' Ms Farmer explained. 'If the noisy resident is a tenant, the landlord should be informed of this behaviour as it's likely also a breach of their lease.' Ultimately, she said either the suffering resident or the owners' corporation can take the situation to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) and seek a penalty of up to $1000 and an order that the behaviour stop. He has tried to confront the man about his noise, with no success. Picture: Reddit Etiquette tips to deal with noisy neighbours Meanwhile, Jo Hayes, an etiquette expert, has shared her tips on how to deal with noisy neighbours, while acknowledging that the Reddit post is on the more extreme end of the spectrum. But when it comes to more common noise complaints, Ms Hayes says there are a few general rules of thumb to follow. 'My starting point advice is to communicate the issue either by written letter or face-to-face,' she says. 'Always keep in mind the conflict resolution MO: be kind, calm and clear.' If the situation appears like it could turn volatile, she warns against face-to-face confrontation and suggests approaching a third party to intervene. A strata lawyer has advised the best course of action. Picture: iStock Commenters share their thoughts Commenters agreed it was an annoying situation to be in, but many couldn't help but comment on the humorous nature of the song. 'I'm so sorry, but this is hilarious. What a stunning break-up song,' one commenter wrote. 'The funniest part is he is actually on rhythm,' said another, as someone else called the tune 'a bop'. 'Why did this have to come out after the hottest 100 of all time?' asked another. 'Publish the song on Spotify, make millions, buy a new house,' suggested a different user. Jokes aside, many people did share their advice for the man and expressed their sympathies about the situation. Originally published as Sydney resident fed-up over 'explicit' 2am noises from neighbour
