The KSRDT comprises dog owners who volunteer to help Kent Police search for missing people.Mick Desmond, fellow senior dog handler, said: "A good dog team is basically the equivalent of 20 foot searchers, so we can cover large areas of land, woodland, forests and fields quickly."Willow has so far located five people; two living with dementia, a man who the team said was despondent, and two people who had died.The team are always looking for more people to get involved, even if they do not have a dog, as they can be the training targets for the dogs to search for, KSRDT said.Mr Savin added that Willow received a steak as a reward for winning a Make A Difference Award."She was born to do it really," he said.

Whilst this represents a modest 2.3% decline from 2023, Ivy continues to be amongst Britain's most cherished botanical names. The name originates from the Latin 'florens', meaning 'blossoming' or 'flourishing' and is historically associated with Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers. With its perfect mix of classical allure and botanical lineage, Florence continues to charm parents seeking a name that feels both timeless and significant. Poppy and Willow complete the top five most popular floral names in the UK. Poppy was selected for 1,925 babies in 2024 - a vibrant, joyful name that also carries deeper symbolism, representing remembrance, peace, and imagination. Willow, named after the elegant and flexible tree, was given to 1,626 babies this year. Although down from nearly 2,000 in 2023, the name maintains its appeal. The willow tree is renowned for its ability to flourish in harsh conditions and adapt to its surroundings. Naming a child Willow reflects qualities such as quiet strength, resilience, and emotional intelligence. Rubbish: The group clearing tonnes of litter from NI's waterways
Fridge freezers, sofas, plastic bags and bottles - these are just some of the items volunteers have found in waterways around the beauty spots of the north year, not-for-profit firm Sea2it, removed "a staggering amount" of plastic - more than seven tonnes in its director Richard Connor is a finalist in the BBC's Make A Difference Awards 2025, a nomination that he said has left him "shocked but humbled". Boy, 4, said four haunting words as he left hospital before he was hit by bus
Zaahir Jan, four, died after being hit by a bus outside outside the NHS Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital - his heartbroken mum has revealed his four final words A mum has shared the tragic final words of her four-year-old son before he was hit by a bus while visiting his grandmother in hospital. Little Zaahir Jan was hit by a bus while crossing the road outside the NHS Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, Kent, at around 4pm on Thursday. Emergency services rushed to the scene and Zaahir was taken to hospital, but he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later. Azaria Green, Zaahir's heartbroken mum, says the incident unfolded when he'd gone to the toilet holding his 10-year-old brother's hand while she waited in the car park with her sister. She explained that Zaahir went to the toilet and told his brother he was "going back to mum", before he ran across the road and was tragically struck. Azaria has now paid a moving tribute to her "best boy", who she says slept in her bed every night. She has so far been unable to go home because she can't bring herself to look at Zaahir's belongings. The mother, from Canterbury, Kent, said: "We were going to visit my mum. Me and my sister were in the car park and he went to the toilet with my sister's partner and the other kids. "He was holding his 10-year-old brothers hand and he went to the toilet. He said he was going to go back to mum. He was trying to come back to me and he ran in the road. "It was horrible. He was the strongest, bravest, happiest boy ever. He was so loving. He was so strong. I think I'm in shock. I don't know what's going to happen soon but I'm really not OK at the moment. He loved me so much. He was my best boy. "I haven't been able to go home because I can't look at his stuff and his toys and his iPad. He slept in my bed with me every single day and we used to cuddle before we slept and as soon as we'd wake up we cuddled and told each other we loved each other." Azaria has set up a GoFundMe page with a target of raising £15,000 to help cover the costs of his funeral. Over £9,000 has already been raised, and Azaria said: "The fundraiser has been set up to cover the costs of his funeral because I literally had nothing in my account. "I just want to give him the best that I can. He loved cars so much. I want to try and get him some flowers in the shape of cars." Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the incident and have since launched an appeal for information. A Kent Police spokesperson said: "Witnesses, CCTV and dashcam footage are sought by officers investigating a fatal collision in Margate. "Kent Police was called to Ramsgate Road shortly after 4pm on Thursday August 7 following a report of an incident involving a bus and a pedestrian outside Queen Elizabeth Queen Margaret Hospital. "The bus, a white single decker vehicle, was travelling near the entrance to the A&E department. It is reported that the pedestrian, a four-year-old boy, left the hospital on foot and a collision took place. "The child was taken inside the hospital and a short while later was sadly confirmed deceased. His next of kin has been informed. "Investigators from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. "Witnesses, including passengers travelling on the bus who have not yet spoken to police, should call 01622 798538 or email quoting reference KH//055/25." Tracey Fletcher, Chief Executive of East Kent Hospitals, said: "We are very saddened by the tragic incident and send our sincere condolences to the family."
