Pop band's member, 64, falls ‘seriously ill' ahead of upcoming arena tour
Deacon Blue's keyboardist James 'Jim' Prime has fallen 'seriously ill' ahead of the Scottish pop-rock's band fall arena tour.
'We wanted to share some news with you about our brother, Jim,' the band wrote on Instagram Wednesday, June 11.
'Unfortunately, he is seriously ill and undergoing care in the hospital,' Deacon Blue wrote. 'We would like you to join us in wishing him well and to share your love with him.'
In the wake of his condition, Prime gave his bandmates his 'full blessing' to play shows without him until he recovers.
'Together with Jim's family, we want to thank all of the nurses, doctors and ICU staff for their ongoing care, professionalism and compassion.'
It is unclear why the 64-year-old musician was hospitalized and how severe his illness is.
Deacon Blue formed in Glasgow in 1985. The band's lineup consists of Prime, singers Ricky Ross and Lorraine McIntosh, drummer Dougie Vipond, guitarist Gregor Philp and bassist Lewis Gordon. The band has sold an estimated seven million records, earned 12 U.K. top 40 singles and released 11 studio albums.
The band's 'The Great Western Road Trip' tour is in celebration of Deacon Blue's album of the same name, which was released in March. The album marked four decades since the band formed and followed up their 2021 album, 'Riding On The Tide of Love.'
The tour, which is set to begin in September, will include 15 shows across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Edinburgh man recognised for services to veterans in Kings Birthday Honours List
Edinburgh has seen 18 residents recognised in His Majesty The King's Birthday Honours List 2025. They are part of 110 Scottish recipients who will be celebrated as community champions, role models in sport, pioneers in the arts, passionate health workers, and supporters of young people. 1,215 individuals will be recognised for their brilliant achievements, with a particular focus on those who have given their time to public service. Scotland makes up nine per cent of the total honours issued this year. UK nationals and citizens of 15 Commonwealth 'realms', of which the King is head of state, are eligible for nomination. People living or working overseas, whose achievements were made in another country or in the UK and have a significant international element, can be nominated too. Nominations are submitted to the Cabinet Office's Honours and Appointments Secretariat, which oversees the honours system. A group of 10 independent honours committees, each covering a specialist subject area such as sport or health, consider nominations. There are two sets of honours per year, at New Year and in June on the King's official birthday. Once all recipients have been decided and checked, the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood at St James's Palace arranges investitures for the presentation of medals. These ceremonies, held about 30 times a year at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and, occasionally, the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, and are hosted by senior royals. The most senior ranks of the Order of the British Empire are Knight or Dame Grand Cross (GBE) and Knight or Dame Commander (KBE or DBE).
