Jurassic Lanark welcomes 6000 visitors to summer trail

Daily Record2 days ago
New animatronic parasaurolophus and ankylosaurus models were popular additions to this year's seven-week attraction
Thousands of dinosaurs hunters flocked to Lanark for a fifth successive summer for the town's annual Jurassic trail, with this year's visitors once again praising the fabulous family adventure.

More than 6100 trail maps were distributed to guide children and families around the 25 animatronic installations and giant sculptures located in the town centre at at Castlebank Park – with visitors coming from from as far afield as Edinburgh, Stirling and Ayrshire for the annual fun festival.

New additions of moving parasaurolophus and ankylosaurus models proved popular additions to this year's line-up, alongside returning firm favourites and a busy programme of events led by the Jurassic Lanark ranger team, including special fun weekends for the youngest visitors.

Research by organisers Discover Lanark showed that 93 per cent of visitors rated the dino-mite experience 'very good', while nearly nine in 10 used the town's cafes and restaurants and 62 per cent spent money in local shops during their time in Lanark.
There were 2400 entries to the free trail's prize draw, and nearly one in five of those who took part in the Jurassic Lanark trail during the dinosaurs' seven-week appearance were making their first visit to the town.
Discover Lanark business improvement district manager Antonia Pompa said: 'We were really pleased with the feedback – there was a very positive atmosphere in the town and it was really lovely to see families going round with their maps.
'We always try to introduce new things so we had the animatronic ankylosaurus and parasaurolophus, and a large T-Rex head outside the Tolbooth, and then the models are moved around each year to create different scenes.

'They're in place in both the town centre and Castlebank Park, and families said how much they appreciated the park and all that they can do there as well as part of the experience.
'It's been great and it's been delightful to see families out together with their maps, whether it's children, parents or grandparents, and really enjoying the trail together over the summer.'

The dinosaur-themed attractions also included appearances from popular event mascot Roary, plus Lanark memorial hall hosting the interactive Dinosaur Adventure to 'save Volcano Island from a jurassic storm'.
Discover Lanark posted on Facebook as the seven-week extravaganza came to a close: 'A big thank you to everyone who has visited the town and supported the trail and our local businesses, and to everyone who has worked so hard to make it a success and all the town's businesses who have entered into the spirit of our dinosaur spectacular.'
They received hundreds of appreciative comments from visitors and families, praising the 'brilliant' free event and the 'lovely atmosphere' in the town throughout the summer.

I'm super surrogate who's had 10 babies in 14 years… I love creating families but there's a question I'm always asked

SHE'S the super surrogate who has delivered ten babies in 14 years – but Becky Harris admits she still sobs every time she hands a child over. Dubbed 'Supermum' by the families she helps, Becky says that despite the emotional toll she is still desperate for more, admitting: 'I'm still broody and I'll have another ten if I can'. 10 10 Becky, 38, from Sudbury, Suffolk, carried her first surrogate child in 2011 after she split with her husband Rex. She said: 'I first heard about surrogacy in my twenties as my sister-in-law Bex carried a baby for a childless couple. 'My split from Rex spurred me on to fulfil my dream of becoming a surrogate too, because family is everything to me and I've always wanted to bring that joy to others.' The first couple she helped were unable to conceive, and she had their daughter in 2011. 'It broke my heart' She said: 'After I handed her to them, I had a real sense of handing a baby back to its rightful parents.' Becky went on to help six other families, including having siblings for one family. She said: 'I always cry when I hand the babies over. But it is tears of happiness — it's such a special moment as I've helped to create a family. I think of it as a vocation.' She admitted there is one question everyone asks her when they discover she's a surrogate. She said: 'Everyone always wants to know whether I have done the deed with the dad or if I used a turkey baster. The answer to both is no!' Unusually, Becky, who uses a syringe for home conceptions, claims she enjoys every pregnancy. My mum is the world's most prolific surrogate but plan to have 16th baby at 58 is reckless & selfish She said: 'Mostly, I get pregnant first go. I just seem to think about it and I'm pregnant! "People often think of pregnancy as morning sickness, mood swings and swollen ankles, but I get none of that. I breeze through every pregnancy.' Her most recent birth was a little girl last year and she's already planning for baby number 12. The world's most prolific surrogate is Carole Horlock from Colchester, Essex, who has had 13 surrogate babies as well as two daughters. Becky said: 'I'm broody — going by NHS advice I can try again from next summer. I'll keep having beautiful babies for as long as I can.' She said her fourth pregnancy was heartbreaking because she miscarried — a baby called Tinsel who was due at Christmas in 2013. 10 10 She said: 'It broke my heart for the intended parents. We went on to have another baby, but we have never forgotten her.' While Becky has handed over seven of her surrogate babies, she also kept two — Jensen, six, and Gray, three, after a gay father she'd helped agreed to be a donor so she could start her own blended family. Jensen and Gray are brothers to Levi, 15, her son with ex-husband Rex, and she is planning to have another child with the same gay dad. She said: 'Our children call him Papa, while his son calls me Aunty. We're the ultimate modern family. 'There's two gay dads, three babies, and a whole lot of love.' 10 10 10 10

She's warm, hilarious and of course, drop dead gorgeous. "Just like Myleene Klass, who won the first All Stars series back in 2023, Ashley had some iconic moments soaping up in the outback waterfall. 'Stripping back down to her swimwear on TV again netted Myleene some very lucrative deals after the show, and it's sure to do the same for Ashley if she makes the final line-up.' Behind the scenes, production are currently finalising the cast after months of top-secret meetings. 'There are some great names in the mix,' our source continues. 'The team are spoilt for choice, but Ashley is a very strong contender.' The Sun has contacted ITV for comment. Heart FM host Ashley first headed Down Under for her original stint on the show in 2012, where she finished as runner-up to EastEnders star Charlie Brooks. Six years later, she also reached the final on Strictly Come Dancing, but Stacey Dooley pipped her to the Glitterball. If Ashley signs on the dotted line to return to the jungle, the series will film in South Africa's Kruger National Park later this year, and broadcast in 2026. Ashley Roberts flashes her sunburnt bum in thong bikini as she enjoys scorching holiday Unlike the regular Australian series, which will air as normal in November, the All Stars version is pre-recorded and does not involve a viewer vote - instead the camp mates choose their winner. Other returning All Stars in the running to return are Scarlett Moffatt, Seann Walsh, Adam Thomas, Harry Redknapp and Gemma Collins. Gemma's deal to sign up is said to be worth over £150,000. She famously quit 2014's main show after just three days. 6 Myleene Klass won the first series of I'm A Celebrity South Africa in 2023 Credit: Rex
