Pankaja Munde vows to make Godavari river pollution-free
on Friday pledged that she would focus on cleaning up the Godavari river and ensuring its pollution-free status, particularly in preparation for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela.

"I will frequently come to Nashik in view of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. I will make efforts and pay attention to making the Godavari river pollution-free," Munde said while speaking to media after the inauguration of Aironomics-2025, a programme organised by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (Credai) Nashik.
The minister said she would be in Nashik on Saturday too, where she would visit the Godavari river and hold meetings with industrial organisations in connection with the construction of the proposed common effluent treatment plant (CETP) in the industrial areas of Nashik city.
"State govt is planning the rejuvenation of rivers in the state, and a long-term plan is also being prepared by the state environment department," she said.
Munde said only 48% of the sewage water was being treated. "Hence, we are working long-term for the rejuvenation of the rivers in Maharashtra," she said, adding that there was a need to make long-term plans to overcome air, water and sound pollution.
She said the environment department was preparing the SOPs for the construction sector. The minister also released the white papers regarding the measures needed to improve the air quality of the city and the measures to improve the solid waste management system by the civic body. The white papers were prepared by Credai Nashik.

Credai president Shekhar G Patel highlighted the evolution of Bhubaneswar over the last decade, stating, "From a twin city, we now see a vision for a dynamic tri-city cluster comprising Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri. This region is poised to be one of India's top 50 urban centres." He underscored the contribution of the real estate sector to India's economy. "Currently contributing 8.4 per cent to India's GDP, it is the second-largest employment generator after agriculture. With RERA streamlining the industry, 95 per cent of the sector is now organised. By 2030, it is projected to become a USD 1 trillion sector, contributing 10 per cent to the GDP." Credai Bhubaneswar president and MLA Sofia Firdous said that with strategic central initiatives like the Smart City Mission, Bhubaneswar is emerging as the real estate capital of Eastern India.

Edible oil regulation: Government tightens norms; monthly reporting, factory checks made mandatory

The Vegetable Oil Products, Production and Availability (VOPPA) Regulation Order, 2025, notified on August 1 by the ministry of consumer affairs, amends the existing 2011 Order under Section 3 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. According to the official release, all vegetable oil producers must now obtain registration certificates through the Directorate of Sugar and Vegetable Oils in New Delhi. The application must include factory location, production capacity and other operational details as listed in Schedule-I. The amended framework requires producers to file mandatory monthly reports by the 15th of each month. These reports must detail oil usage, production, sales, and stock levels. Officials said the move is aimed at ensuring better supply chain monitoring and curbing practices like hoarding or misreporting. The Order also grants greater enforcement powers to the director of the Directorate. The amendment brings in clearer definitions for terms such as 'Producer,' 'Vegetable Oil,' and 'Director,' aligning them with the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and the Collection of Statistics Act, 2008. Obsolete provisions such as 'de-oiled meal or edible flour' have been removed. Schedule-III and Paragraph 13 of the previous Order have also been scrapped, while terms like 'Clause' and 'Chief Director' have been standardised. Welcoming the step, the Indian Vegetable Producers' Association (IVPA) said the reforms address long-standing concerns over data inconsistencies that hinder policy decisions. 'The organised sector is equipped to meet these data requirements, but the challenge lies in the fragmented unorganised segment, comprising thousands of small units,' IVPA noted. Noida: Anticipating heavy footfall during two major trade events at the Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Noida traffic police will enforce traffic diversions around the Expo Mart Roundabout for four days starting Sunday, August 3. According to deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Lakhan Singh Yadav, the restrictions are aimed at managing the expected surge in traffic due to "Tent Décor Asia – 2025" and the "India International Hospitality Expo – 2025," both scheduled to run from August 3 to 6.
