"No Closure For 180 Families": Asaduddin Owaisi After Mumbai Blasts Verdict
Hours after the Bombay High Court acquitted 12 convicts in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts case, noting that the prosecution had "utterly failed" to prove the charges, Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi asked if the government would act against the investigators who probed the serial train bombings that killed 189 people.
The AIMIM chief said 12 Muslim men spent 18 years in jail for a "crime they didn't commit," and the families of those killed in the blasts have "no closure" today. "12 Muslim Men were in jail for 18 years for a crime they didn't commit, their prime life is gone, 180 families who lost their loved ones, several injured, no closure for them. Will (the) government take action against officers of (the) Maharashtra ATS who investigated this case?" Mr Owaisi asked in a post on X.

On July 11, 2006, seven bomb blasts had ripped through separate Mumbai local trains within 11 minutes. Rigged pressure cookers were used for the bombings to amplify the damage caused. The first occurred at 6.24 pm -- rush hour due to people returning from work -- and the last at 6.35 pm. The bombs were placed in first-class compartments of trains from Churchgate. They exploded near the stations of Matunga Road, Mahim Junction, Bandra, Khar Road, Jogeshwari, Bhayandar and Borivali. In 2015, a trial court convicted 12 people in this case, sentencing five of them to death and the others to life imprisonment. Their conviction was set aside today.
"Innocent people are sent to jail and then years later, when they are released from jail, there is no possibility for reconstruction of their lives. From last 17 years, these accused are in jail. They haven't stepped out even for a day. The majority of their prime life is gone," Mr Owaisi said.
"In such cases where there is a public outcry, the approach by police is always to first assume guilt and then go from there. Police officers take press conferences in such cases, and the way the media covers the case, it kind of decides the guilt of a person. In many such terror cases, investigating agencies have failed us miserably," he added.
Mr Owaisi said two of those acquitted today lost both their parents when they were in prison. Another lost his wife without having a final conversation with her.

Asaduddin Owaisi tears into Modi govt over India-Pakistan cricket match - ‘does your conscience allow?'
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi voiced his concern over the upcoming cricket match between India and Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup and raised questions regarding accountability for the Pahalgam terror attack. The Hyderabad Member of Parliament was speaking during a heated debate in parliament over Operation Sindoor on Monday. 'Does your conscience allow you to ask the family members of the people who were killed in Baisaran to watch India's cricket match with Pakistan?... We are stopping 80% of Pakistan's water, saying that water and blood will not flow together. Will you play a cricket match? My conscience does not allow me to watch that match.' Posing a question directly to the government, he asked, "Does this government have the courage to call the 25 dead people and say we have taken revenge in Operation Sindoor, now you watch the match with Pakistan?" Owaisi's remarks came after the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced that the Men's Asia Cup 2025 will be hosted in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to 28. Group A features India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong make up Group B. Owaisi also questioned how the perpetrators of the Baisaran incident managed to infiltrate India territory. "Who did Pahalgam? We have 7.5 lakh army and central paramilitary force. From where did these four rats enter and kill our Indian citizens? On whom will accountability be fixed?...", he asked, referencing the incident in Pahalgam. Earlier, former Indian skipper and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly also weighed in on the upcoming India-Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup 2025, stressing that while sports must continue, terrorism must be firmly dealt with. "I am okay. The sport must go on. At the same time, Pahalgam should not happen, but the sport must go on. Terrorism must not happen; it needs to be stopped. India took a strong stance towards terrorism... Sport needs to be played," Ganguly told ANI. Does your conscience allow you to ask the family members of the people who were killed in Baisaran to watch India's cricket match with Pakistan? The Lok Sabha on Monday afternoon began discussion on 'India's strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The debate was initiated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Owaisi: When water, blood can't flow together, why play cricket against Pakistan?
AIMIM LEADER Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday asked in the Lok Sabha how the Centre can allow the national cricket team to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup tournament on September 14 when the government had asserted after the Pahalgam attack that 'water and blood cannot flow together' and had imposed various restrictions. Owaisi said his own conscience will not allow him to watch that cricket match between India and Pakistan. Participating in the special discussion on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha, Owaisi said when Indian airspace is closed for Pakistan's aircraft, their boats cannot enter India, trade is stopped, 'with what face India will play a cricket match with Pakistan'? 'Does this government have so much courage to make a phone call to (families of) those killed (in Pahalgam attack) and say that we have taken revenge in Operation Sindoor and you now watch Pakistan's cricket match? This is regrettable,' he said. Owaisi also asked the government to point out who was accountable for the terror attack. 'If the accountability is fixed on L-G ( Lieutenant-Governor), then dismiss L-G. If accountability is on IB or the police, then take action… accountability will have to be fixed,' he said. The Hyderabad MP urged the government to not make national security and foreign policy issues of politics and not make unity of the country a medium of getting votes. Owaisi said unity and amity will have to be maintained in the country to defeat forces like Pakistan Army, ISI and others whose aim of life is to weaken India. Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) MP Chandrashekhar asked the government to clarify who helped the terrorists in crossing the border and entering Pahalgam. 'Had the security agencies received any input about this attack? If yes, then what action was taken on that input? Is the government implementing a standard operating procedure (SOP) for ensuring the safety of tourists? When the security review of sensitive places like Pahalgam was done last time, what shortcomings were found, and why did the Prime Minister not visit Pahalgam after the terror attack?' Chandrashekhar demanded the government should reinstate Chamar regiment and also form Gujar, Mahto and Yadav regiments in view of rise in terror activities. Revolutionary Socialist Party's N K Premachandran said when the success stories of Operation Sindoor are being discussed, a critical analysis should also be done of the failures faced during Operation Sindoor and Pahalgam terror attack. He said there were three major failures on part of the government — 'intelligence failures, tactical failure and failure of Indian foreign policy'. Apex court lifts HC stay on West Bengal OBC list
NEW DELHI: In a major relief to Mamata Banerjee government , the Supreme Court on Monday lifted the Calcutta HC stay on implementation of the new list of OBC sub-groups, including 80 belonging to the Muslim community, and said it is well settled that the Executive can notify such a list without passing a legislation. On June 17, the HC had stayed the new OBC List entitling to quota benefits 140 sub-groups under OBC-A and OBC-B categories. The earlier list, which was struck down by HC, had 113 OBC sub-groups, with 77 from the Muslim community and 36 from others. The appeal of the Bengal govt challenging the quashing of the earlier list is still pending before the SC. Appearing for the state, senior advocate Kapil Sibal said the stay has put the govt in a piquant position as it faces the task of recruiting 40,000 teachers and preparing a roster. A bench of Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justices K Vinod Chandran and N V Najaria said, "Prima facie the HC order is erroneous. A 9-judge constitution bench of the SC has settled the law and ruled that List of sub-groups for availing quota can be notified by the Executive without a legislation". On a petition by one Amal Chandra Das challenging the new OBC list, an HC bench of Justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Rajasekhar Mantha had on June 17 directed that executive notifications issued between May 8 and June 13 about OBC categories will not go into effect till July 31. The SC bench said: "How the HC stay the notification without giving reasons? It is in the teeth of a constitution bench judgment of the SC. If you all agree, we can request the HC chief justice to assign the matter to a special bench, other than the judges who heard the matter, and decide the issue on merits". Appearing for the petitioners, senior advocates Ranjit Kumar and Guru Krishna Kumar said the HC has not imposed any stay on the implementation of OBC reservations based on the list existing prior to 2010, which had 66 sub-groups. "It is the state which has enacted legislation laying down the procedure for inclusion and exclusion of sub-groups from OBC List. Once the procedure is laid down in law, it must be followed scrupulously, which the govt didn't, thus, inviting a stay from the HC," they said. "The state law mandates that the State Backward Class Commission is to be consulted, which was not done by the state. No survey was undertaken to identify the sub-groups which should be included. What they did was to reintroduce the list of sub-groups whose inclusion was quashed by the HC earlier," they held. Sibal, on the other hand, said a survey was done and 76 new sub-groups were added to the earlier list. The petitioner had not challenged the survey done for this purpose, he said.
