Amit Shah directs formation of multi-disciplinary central team to visit disaster torn Himachal

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed the formation of a multi-sectoral central team to visit Himachal Pradesh in view of the frequency and intensity of natural disasters in the state, officials said on Sunday.
The officials stated that the team would comprise experts from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee, Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) Pune, a Geologist, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore.
'The Union Home Minister's direction came following a recent meeting in which he was apprised that Himachal Pradesh has witnessed an increase in the frequency and intensity of cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides and torrential rainfall, causing widespread loss of life, damage to infrastructure, livelihoods and environmental degradation,' a senior official of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said.
He said, further, in the wake of floods, flash floods and landslides during the South West monsoon 2025 in different parts of the state, the Centre has already deputed an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) in advance, without waiting for their memorandum, for on-the-spot, first-hand assessment of the damages.
The IMCT has already started their visit to the affected areas on July 18 and would travel in the state till July 21, he said. He added that a high-level committee chaired by the Home Minister has already approved an outlay of Rs 2,006.40 crore to Himachal Pradesh for recovery and reconstruction in areas affected by disasters for the year 2023, and has also released the first installment of Rs 451.44 crore on July 7 this year.

Zuari land scam amount enough to pay govt's debt: Vijai

Porvorim: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Friday claimed that the Zuari land scam amounts to Rs 50,000 crore and it would have cleared govt debt. However, govt maintained its stance that there is no scam in Zuari land. Sardesai said that revenue minister Atanasio 'Babush' Monserrate has spoken extensively about the Zuari land scam, but nothing has been done by him, and now it is turning into a significant scam. He said that the House passed an amendment to the Goa legislative diploma no. 2017. He further explained that the objective of the amendment is to ensure that the purpose for which the comunidade land was given cannot be changed. The Fatorda MLA said that the purpose of giving land to Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited and/or Zuari Industries Limited and/or any of their subsidiaries was not to create plots. 'Land was not given so that Lodha should make plots or any other should make plots. 50lakh sqm land was given to create employment through industrialisation,' Sardesai said. Sardesai demanded that Monserrate should assure him that he will not issue any sanads for those plots. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Offer Valid for the First 100 Bookings Only Birla Estates Learn More Undo 'You have brought the law in 2024 and tell me now that you are breaking the same law in love of Zuari,' Sardesai said. In response to the question, Monserrate stated that this law does not apply to Zuari as it was prospective and not retrospective. Sardesai argued that the 'aforamento' cannot be changed. Monserrate countered that Zuari land has already been sold as they are the owners of the said Monserrate was seeking advice from a former advocate general, and when the advice was not in his favour, he went to another advocate because he wanted to sell it to Zuari. 'This is the biggest scam in modern Goa history,' Sardesai said. He claimed that Goa could have been debt-free with Zuari money. 'Rs 50,000 crore scam. Law was brought after it was sold to Zuari. You have brought the law after land was given to Zuari,' he said. Monserrate insisted that there is no scam, and the law was brought to prevent such occurrences in the future. Chief minister Pramod Sawant stated that they introduced the law after the Zuari incident. 'Our govt has not done Zuari scam,' Sawant said.

Akali Dal fears ‘3rd false case' against Majithia

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday accused vigilance bureau (VB) officials of creating false evidence against former minister Bikram Singh Majithia after failing to gather proof in the alleged false case of disproportionate assets against him. Addressing a press conference here, SAD chief spokesman Arshdeep Singh Kler and advocate Damanbir Singh Sobti said they apprehended that a "third false case" could be registered against Majithia. They also said they would move court to seek live streaming of the court proceedings of the assets case. Kler said, "The VB failed to buttress their claims that 29 mobiles were recovered from Majithia, including Rs 141 crore transactions, Rs 540 crore investment, and 1,000 acres of land in Himachal Pradesh." He also said that the VB "floated a new theory of a SIM card in the name of a person while Majithia has nothing to do with any such SIM as he uses a number which was issued in his own name". The two alleged the VB was picking up people illegally and torturing them to sign statements under Section 164 of the CrPC." Sobti claimed two people were picked up from Amritsar on July 21. "They were kept in a private hotel in Amritsar and compelled to sign their statements under Section 164, stating that investments done by his late brother Rupinder Singh were done with cash given by Bikram Singh Majithia." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Sobti said, "The family of these two people approached the Punjab and Haryana high court and a Habeas Corpus petition was filed. The high court appointed a warrant officer who raided the VB office at Mohali along with a team. When the govt came to know about this development, they were immediately taken to Amritsar and were forced by vigilance officials to give a statement to their family that they were coming in a bus, which they refused. " Sobti claimed that the statement of one individual was being recorded under which he was told to state that another person made an investment with cash received from Majithia. Sobti also alleged that a person "who introduces himself as a retired CBI official and adviser of Arvind Kejriwal in his legal cases, visited the vigilance office regularly and guided officials on how to proceed in the case." Sobti also named another person, who he claimed, "dictated Punjab officials in the case. " MSID:: 122905195 413 |
