Pogačar powers to big Pyrenees win to reclaim Tour de France yellow jersey
On a day when many wondered if he would suffer any ill effects from his crash the day before, Pogačar showed none and put himself in prime position for his fourth Tour victory with a break on the stage-ending climb to Hautacam.
He finished more than two minutes ahead of main rival Jonas Vingegaard.
Hautacam is the resort overlooking Lourdes and Stage 12 must have felt like a pilgrimage for all the riders. Ben Healy, who wore the yellow jersey for two stages, finished well behind on a brutal day for the Irish rider.
In 2022, Vingegaard dominated Pogačar at Hautacam on his way to his first Tour victory. But the Danish rider is now 3 1/2 minutes behind his main rival in the general classification.

BERN, Switzerland (AP) — Spain's opponents at the Women's European Championships maybe don't want to hear Aitana Bonmatí say she is even better as a player after her recent spell in the hospital. Bonmatí said Thursday she is '100% physically' on the eve of a quarterfinal game against host Switzerland that will be exactly three weeks since she was hospitalized with viral meningitis. 'I think this new Aitana is even stronger mentally with the same ambitions,' the two-time defending Ballon d'Or winner said in translated comments. 'I reminded myself who I am. 'I feel very well, you can see from my face I glad to be here,' Bonmatí added, though she acknowledged she had learned because 'I am not used to managing these kinds of situations.' Bonmatí was treated in a Madrid hospital before traveling to Switzerland one day later than the rest of the world champion and tournament favorite's squad. 'I was frustrated, I suffered I must admit. It was five days before the start of the tournament,' she said at the pregame news conference at the stadium in Bern. 'What happened was unexpected. I felt super well, physically I was perfect,' she said. 'But I never thought I wouldn't be here. I thought I may miss some games.' Bonmatí even was well enough to enter from the bench on the second day of Euro 2025, in the 81st minute of Spain's 5-0 win over Portugal. She came on for the second half of the 6-2 win against Belgium, when the score was 2-1. She played the full game in a 3-1 win over Italy ensuring Spain finished top of its group. The team tied the tournament record of scoring 14 goals in the opening phase. 'I am happy because the team was super good,' Bonmatí said. 'We played an excellent tournament and now the best part is coming.' Spain faces the host nation in the quarterfinals, as at Euro 2022 in England losing 2-1 after extra time to the eventual title holder. Argentina paves way for return of visiting fans after 12-year ban tried to curb stadium violence
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — A ban on away fans in Argentina's local leagues — a restriction that failed to end stadium violence — will gradually be lifted under a plan announced Thursday by the country's soccer federation. The 12-year ban will be lifted in a test run when Lanús hosts Rosario Central in the second matchday of the top-flight Clausura tournament, Argentine Football Association president Claudio Tapia said at a press conference. 'It's a day that marks a before and after in our league,' Tapia said. 'It's the kind of soccer (with visitors) we all grew accustomed to since we were kids. We have to get back to that path. Clubs that are in a position to host visiting fans can do so.' The federation banned visiting fans in the first-division tournament in 2013 after two incidents: the death of a Lanús fan when police tried to break up a clash with Estudiantes supporters; and the death of two Boca Juniors fans in a shootout between rival factions. The ban was imposed first in the province of Buenos Aires, and the rest of the districts followed. While the measure sought to end stadium violence, it fell short, as more deaths subsequently occurred for disputes among the so-called 'barrabravas.' The AFA announced that 6,500 fans of Rosario Central, a team from that city located 300 kilometers north of Buenos Aires, will be able to occupy the Lanús away section under a strict security protocol, which includes designated tickets so that fans attending are properly identified. 'The idea isn't to go back to what we had before because the visitors were kicked out for a reason,' Buenos Aires security minister Javier Alonso said. 'We have to eradicate the culture of violence. It's sad to see 10-year-olds singing about drugs or that someone needs to be killed. It has to be a family celebration, with flags and drums.' For the time being, the measure will apply only to the province of Buenos Aires, although Tapia said that other provinces are willing to join the initiative. The plan has raised questions. Sectors of the opposition to the Buenos Aires government warned that police officers cannot be assigned to guard visiting fans to the detriment of citizens concerned about a growing wave of insecurity. The restriction on visiting fans only applied to professional league matches and other divisions in Argentina. They are allowed in international tournaments such as the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. 'This is what football fans and society want. Sykes and Brionna Jones replace Caitlin Clark and Satou Sabally in All-Star Game
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Washington Mystics guard Brittney Sykes and Atlanta Dream forward Brionna Jones were announced Thursday as replacements for the All-Star Game by WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert. The pair replace Indiana's Caitlin Clark and Phoenix's Satou Sabally, who are injured and can't play in Saturday's game. Clark, who injured her groin on Tuesday, announced on social media she's out for this weekend to recover. The league didn't announce a replacement yet for Clark in the 3-point contest Friday night. Both will be on Clark's team, which is coached Sandy Brondello. Clark and Sabally were in the starting lineup for the team and Brondello will name their replacements.
