Ryan Clark's life was just getting started when a gunman opened fire on the campus of Virginia Tech in April 2007 where he was a student.
32 people died that day, including Ryan. 27 students and five faculty members.
Today, Ryan is remembered as a hero for his actions that day. His mom founded a Scholarship in her son's honor. Letitti Clark appeared Monday on NewsChannel 6 at Noon to talk about Run for Ryan, a fundraiser.

Man shot five times while collecting pizza had '£30,000 contract on his head'
A man was arrested in connection to a fatal shooting was shot five times as he picked up a pizza. 18 years ago, Ryan Woolley was murdered while he collected his food at a takeaway on Picton Road, Wavertree in Liverpool. Despite three men standing trial for the alleged "gangland killing", no one has ever been convicted. Detectives believe that Mr Woolley was shot in the neck, face and chest as a getback for the killing of a Michael "Mikey" Wright, who was murdered in December 2006. Mr Woolley's brother Philip was convicted of being the "executioner or executioner's assistant" when Mr Wright was shot at close-range as he sat eating his food outside KFC at Croxteth's Stonedale retail park in December 2006, the ECHO reports.. But the senior prosecutor during the trial into his own murder told jurors there was no good evidence to link him to the killing. He told the jury: "There are those who do not want to rely on the proper rules of law which apply to the rest of us. "Thus it would appear Ryan Woolley became a target not for the police, whose job it is to enforce the law, but for others who prefer to live outside it. A contract was put out on Ryan Woolley's head and his death seems to have been the consequence of it." On the day of his death, on August 11 2007, Mr Woolley spent the day drinking on Wavertree High Street with two men who would eventually go on to stand trial for the murder. The drinking resumed in the evening, but at around 9.45pm, one of the two former suspects said he needed to return home because of a police curfew. He told Mr Woolley to collect the pizzas over fears of being arrested and, during that time, it is alleged he summoned a hitman, who was accused of lying in wait in a gated alleyway off Taunton Street. CCTV captured Mr Woolley waiting in Prime Pizza, but just 25 seconds after he left the shop, five loud shots rang out. Mr Woolley, who was three days off his 21st birthday, died instantly. A post-mortem later showed Mr Woolley was shot first from behind through his neck. A second bullet went into his chin and three more bullets were fired into his body. Speaking to the ECHO previously from her Walton home, Mr Woolley's mum Kim said she had no idea why her son was in Wavertree as he had no friends in the area. She said: "His brother spoke to him later that night and told him to get back to his own end of town. People have assumed that this has happened because of Philip, but as far as we know it could be something completely different." The three suspects charged with Mr Woolley's murder went on trial in April 2009. But at the end of the prosecution's case two weeks later, where the court heard a £30,000 contract was on his head, their legal teams argued there was no case to answer based on the evidence put before the court. High Court judge Mr Justice Pitchford threw the case out but the Crown Prosecution Service took his decision to the Court of Appeal, but they lost their challenge. Discharging the jury and acquitting the defendants, Justice Pitchford said he had come to the conclusion that there was "practically no" evidence that one of the men standing trial was the gunman. Following the acquittal, Merseyside Police said the case remained open and "detectives would still like to speak to anybody who has information about the murder of Ryan Woolley". The force had not re-appealed for more information regarding the murder, until the ECHO requested an update on the investigation this week. Howard Rubbery, head of Merseyside Police's serious crime review unit, told the ECHO: "The murder of Ryan Woolley in 2007 is subject to regular reviews by the unit and we would always investigate any new leads or information. We know, as in many cases, that our communities often hold the information which is vital to our enquiries. "Ryan was only a young man and his death left his family and friends devastated. Any small amount of information could be the key to getting justice for them." It is still believed the shooting of Mr Woolley was linked to the murder of Mr Wright just months before. Underworld figure David Hibbs-Turner, described as the "principal architect and controlling mind" behind a wave of crime and terror, was convicted of ordering the shooting of Mr Wright. A trial heard Hibbs-Turner had a longstanding personal hatred of Mr Wright because his girlfriend previously dated him and the pair had a child together. Philip Woolley, who the court heard had an IQ of just 68 and was described as "suffering a significant mental impairment", was also sentenced and told he would have to serve a minimum term of 24 years in prison. Following a retrial, Mark Richardson and Paul Hollands were jailed for life for their part in the shooting, serving 28 and 25 years respectively. Warren man accused of sending human trafficking messages while in custody at Oakland County Jail
A 33-year-old Warren, Michigan, man is facing three charges after he allegedly sent dozens of messages related to human trafficking while in custody at the Oakland County Jail. Ryan Ramone Wafford is charged with two counts of human trafficking and one count of accepting earnings from prostitution, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said Saturday. Investigators say Wafford used phones, tablets and video calls at the jail to send "dozens of messages that were consistent with communications regarding human trafficking/forced sex labor activities" while he was in custody. He was allegedly in jail for violating his probation. The sheriff's office said he was arrested by a SWAT team on Friday at his home and that one of his victims and her child were there when he was apprehended. Wafford was arraigned on Saturday and received a $250,000 cash bond, according to the sheriff's office. "Even while in custody on unrelated charges, the suspect continued trying to direct and control others," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in the release. "Thanks to the persistence of our investigators, we were able to uncover this and rescue individuals from human trafficking." ‘He's got a gas can...and he's threatening to blow himself up.'
Those words were spoken during a chaotic series of events that began around 1 p.m. Thursday in Medford and ended about three hours later with the driver of the black SUV, 'Shots fired!,' the trooper reported, according to police transmissions recorded by Broadcastify. Advertisement After being notified by police that the scene on the Alford Street Bridge was secure, Everett firefighters provided on-scene medical care for the wounded Vizcaino and then rushed him to a hospital. Vizcaino, 33 and of Malden, remains hospitalized Friday in critical condition, authorities said. Vizcaino's relatives either could not be reached for comment or declined comment when contacted by the Globe Friday. In a statement Friday, Middlesex District Attorney Marian T. Ryan said the investigation into Vizcaino's alleged actions and the use of deadly force by the Everett officer are both ongoing. Ryan said that when police examined the black SUV they discovered four gas cans inside and that surveillance video showed him drop a cigarette lighter when he was running from police in Everett. Advertisement According to authorities, Vizcaino first came to the attention of law enforcement on Thursday around 12:45 p.m. when Medford police responded to a gas station where a man driving a black SUV was acting erratically. In an alert sent to other police departments, Medford police requested a well-being check on the man in the black SUV. He was spotted in Stoneham around 1 p.m. but fled before police could check on him, authorities said. He next surfaced in Billerica where he went to a 7-11 and was suspected of shoplifting a gas can from the store before driving off, authorities said. Vizcaino's relatives called Malden police around 3 p.m. reporting he was at their home where Vizcaino once lived, authorities said. After Malden police were unsuccessful in stopping him, he drove into Everett, where both Everett and State Police began trying to check on him. Once on Broadway, Vizcaino crashed the SUV, engaged with the trooper who saw the gas can inside the car, and ran off even after being struck by at least one Taser, officials said. Vizcaino then allegedly tried to break into other cars as they exited Encore. He crossed Broadway and tried to break into cars stopped in traffic, but was unsuccessful, she said. At this point, Vizcaino came upon a Republic Trash truck that was stopped at a traffic light. A passenger in the truck was able to get out, but the driver could not, Ryan told reporters Thursday. Vizcaino opened the door to the truck and wrestled with the driver, trying to climb over him, Ryan said. Advertisement 'At that point, State Police and an Everett police officer approached that door,' Ryan said Thursday. 'They were attempting to get the driver out of the car, several shots were fired at that point, and the driver was safely extracted from the truck.' Vizcaino then drove the truck a half mile before crashing on the bridge, Ryan said. He was arrested by State and Everett police at that point. He will face four counts of attempted armed carjacking, 2 counts of armed carjacking, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, armed assault to rob and leaving the scene of a collision resulting in property damage, prosecutors said. Everett Police Chief Paul Strong on Thursday said the officer 'who discharged his firearm' will be placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure after an officer fires their gun. 'It is more likely than not that these officers and troopers saved many lives today,' Strong said. Vizcaino, who could face additional charges, will be arraigned at a later date, prosecutors said.
