Police: Fugitive predatory sex offender may be in Minneapolis

Authorities are asking the public for help finding a Level 3 predatory sex offender who allegedly fled his residence, and the supervision of local police, in Winona.
Richard Martin Luers, 60, may be in the Minneapolis area, "particularly near the University of Minnesota," according to an alert from the Minneapolis Police Department.
He now has an active arrest warrant. According to Minnesota's sex offender registry, Luers has a lengthy — and violent — criminal record.

"Richard Luers has a history of kidnapping and engaging in sexual contact with unknown adult females. Contact included sexual touching and penetration. Luers gained access to two females by approaching them in public and forcing them to another location and entered another female's home without permission. Luers used force, weapons, threats, and restraint of females to gain compliance."
Minneapolis police note that Luers has used a firearm in some of his crimes.
He's described as 5'10" and 175 pounds, with gray hair and hazel eyes. However, authorities are warning anyone who spots Luer not to approach him and instead "call 911 immediately."

Medical responders arrived on scene and rendered aid to the victim who was transported to the hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, the release said. The suspect was not located at the scene, and police are continuing to investigate. Police are looking for information on this assault. This latest violence follows the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Day'shaun Colen at the Bravo Hookah Lounge on Oct. 27. Security officer Teddy Lee Mills has been indicted for murder in connection with the death of Colen, court records show. Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt. Mills was booked into the Taylor County Jail on Oct. 30 and released on a $250,000 surety bond on Oct. 31, according to online jail records. As of Tuesday, a status hearing is scheduled for June 12 in Taylor County's 104th District Court, according to online court records. There has not been a trial date set at this time. MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police need the public's help to make an arrest after shots were fired at a local hotel. Officers responded to a call at the Economy Inn Hotel on Lamar just before 3:30 a.m. on May 31. Investigators said the victim was at the hotel due to a situation involving his sibling, who was being assaulted by her boyfriend. When the victim arrived, the suspect came out of the hotel and told him to leave. MPD: Man accused of beating sleeping man with tree limb The victim told officers that he told the suspect he was there to help his sister, and then the suspect threatened to shoot him. As the victim attempted to leave, he said the suspect fired his weapon and struck the victim's car. Police described the suspect as a man standing between 5'9″ and 6'2″, weighing approximately 220 pounds. He was wearing a black hoodie, a white t-shirt, black pants and red shoes.
