The blueprint sets ambitious targets: boosting the city's public transport share to 70%, halving average commute time and vehicular emissions, and significantly enhancing first- and last-mile connectivity.
'At present, the average commuter in Bengaluru spends nearly 117 hours annually stuck in traffic. This number needs to be cut by at least 50% by 2030,' the report stated according to DH.
To build its vision, the document draws from the successes of five international cities, Amsterdam, Singapore, Helsinki, Tokyo, and Shanghai, that have each overcome serious mobility hurdles.
What are the key survey insights:
53% of respondents want better connectivity between home and metro stations.
49% highlight the need for improved crowd management and commuter comfort.
48% prefer fewer mode switches during transit.
38% seek reduced wait times.
39% want clearer travel routes and schedule information.
The blueprint outlines a 10-point agenda to overhaul Bengaluru's mobility system by 2030. It calls for a citizen-driven movement promoting sustainable transport choices and urges active collaboration with employers and business parks to encourage greener commute options. Strengthening infrastructure for walking and cycling is highlighted alongside a push for excellence in public transport systems. The plan also advocates for a supportive regulatory framework to enable innovative mobility solutions, adoption of sustainable transportation technologies, and the development of open data systems to support real-time commuter information.

CM Rekha Gupta forms committees for new excise, EV policies in Delhi

Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 4 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday announced the constitution of two separate committees for the formulation of the excise policy and EV Policy 2.0. The excise policy committee will be headed by PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, while the electric vehicle policy committee will be headed by Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood, she said. In a post on X, the chief minister said, 'Keeping social security in focus, the Delhi government has constituted a high-level committee to formulate a transparent excise policy, which will be headed by Cabinet Minister Shri @p_sahibsingh. 'Additionally, a special committee has been formed under the leadership of Cabinet Minister Shri @ashishsood_bjp to develop an effective and public-oriented EV (Electric Vehicle) policy for Delhi. Our government is committed to the holistic development of Delhi and is continuously taking decisions in the public interest. #ViksitDelhi," she said. 'Our government is dedicated to the people of Delhi and is continuously taking decisions in public interest," Gupta had said earlier. Both the excise policy and EV policy have been extended multiple times in the absence of new policies. In June this year, the government extended its excise policy for the financial year 2025–26. The current policy was extended with effect from July 1 to March 31, 2026. The extended policy, also known as the old excise policy, came into operation in September 2022 after the then Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government scrapped its reformative policy (2021–22) that ran into rough weather amid allegations of irregularities in its formulation and implementation. The Delhi government had extended the current Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy until March 31, 2026, as the draft of the new policy will undergo public consultation, which is expected to take time, Transport Minister Pankaj Singh had said last month. The current EV policy, which was first introduced in 2020 during the previous Aam Aadmi Party rule, lapsed in August 2023. The policy has been extended several times since then. Punjab to set up special fraud detection unit to check GST violations

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Chandigarh, Aug 4 (PTI) Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Monday said a state-level special fraud detection unit will be set up in Patiala to uncover and probe high-value Goods and Services Tax violations. This dedicated unit will detect and investigate GST frauds, with particular focus on breaking down circular trading operations, unearthing benami transactions, and eliminating the practice of fake invoicing. 'The Special Fraud Detection Unit (SFDU) will be empowered to initiate stringent enforcement actions, including cancellation of suspicious GST Identification Numbers (GSTIN), blocking wrongful Input Tax Credit claims, and recommending prosecution against offenders to uphold legal accountability," he added. Cheema said the SFDU will leverage advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, data analytics and centralised back-end operations to enhance its detection capabilities. The unit will conduct comprehensive data mining and pattern recognition across the state to identify anomalies in tax returns, transaction networks, and goods movement, he said. The finance minister added that the unit will use data-driven red flags to selectively verify only dubious taxpayers, protecting honest taxpayers from unnecessary scrutiny. Detailing the composition of the SFDU, Cheema stated that the unit will comprise a multidisciplinary team consisting of experienced tax officers, skilled IT professionals, a chartered accountant, and a legal officer. He said this team will be equipped with real-time access to critical data sets such as GSTN information, e-way bill tracking, toll records, and RFID (radio frequency identification) trail analytics, enabling prompt and precise action against tax evasion. Cheema informed that the SFDU will be empowered by robust legal provisions under relevant sections of the CGST (Central Goods and Services Tax) and Punjab GST Acts. He said this will enable the SFDU to function as a technologically advanced, intelligence-driven enforcement agency. 'This initiative marks a decisive step toward safeguarding the state's revenue and dismantling elaborate tax fraud networks that threaten economic integrity," said Cheema. The minister said the SFDU will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the state's revenue and promoting a culture of compliance by taking proactive measures to detect and prevent tax evasion, ultimately contributing to the state's economic stability and growth.
