Murdered journalist and partner: Community aids police in arresting 3 more suspects
A major breakthrough has been made in the double murder case of Pretoria journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Mdhluli, after community members helped police track down and arrest three more suspects linked to the crime.
According to Pretoria Rekord, the decomposed bodies of Ndlovu and Mdhluli were found last week in KwaMhlanga, Mpumalanga.
The couple had been missing since February 18.
A total of eight suspects have now been arrested in connection with the double murder, with several already having appeared in court.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says police issued an alert on Saturday requesting members of the public to assist the SAPS in tracing two outstanding suspects in this case.
'On Monday evening, SAPS crime intelligence officers, detectives, and the Cybercrime Unit, with the assistance of the community, pounced on the suspects at their hideout in Nokaneng near Rust de Winter, where the human remains believed to be of the missing journalist and partner were found. A DNA matching process is already underway to match the human remains found with the DNA of close family members.'
Mathe confirmed that 24-year-old Thato 'Small' Madisha and 43-year-old Sello Uoane were arrested early this morning.
A third suspect in the case was also arrested.
National police commissioner General Fannie Masemola has commended the multidisciplinary team working on this case as well as the community members who assisted with information on the hideout of these three suspects.
'We thank the people of South Africa, particularly Mpumalanga, who have assisted our investigating team in tracing these suspects.
'The social media community must also be appreciated for sharing pictures of these suspects from far and wide. Together, we can do more with the co-operation of communities in fighting crime and apprehending dangerous criminals,' concluded Masemola.
Meanwhile, the African Media and Communicators Forum and the National Press Club commend the police for their continued hard work in solving the case.

Teen jailed for the rape of a 12-year-old

'My last opportunity in life: Fezile Ngubane speaks out after being cleared of Olorato Mongale's murder

Image: X Fezile Ngubane, the KwaZulu Natal man who was arrested and later released for the gruesome murder of Olorato Mongale insists he has never laid his hand on a woman. IOL previously reported that Ngubane was handed over to authorities by his father at the KwaMashu police station after learning that his son was sought in connection with the murder case. According to police, a multidisciplinary investigation team, headed by Major General Mbuso Khumalo, Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection in Gauteng, conducted thorough interviews and preliminary investigations that ultimately absolved Ngubane. He has been deemed a victim, having been unwittingly drawn into a sinister scheme, and has since been released from police custody. Ngubane, who is a father to a teenage girl and ekes a living by washing cars, was wrongly implicated in the horrific murder of Mongale, after a suspect in the murder, Philangenkosi Makhanya, allegedly used Ngubane's identity to register multiple SIM cards. Makhanya allegedly used the SIM cards registered in Ngubane's name communicate with various women. Speaking to journalists, a shaken Ngubane said despite struggling with drug addiction, he is not a violent person. "I would like South Africans to know that I have never been involved in crime, i have never been a person who is a fan of crime, I do not entertain crime. It is just that the addiction, the life that I have put myself in, is the one that is really hurting me. Ngubane said from the time he was arrested, and went on to spend days in police holding cells, his neighbours have been vouching for him, because they know he is not a violent person. Ngubane said he would be happy to receive help to quit his reliance on intoxicating substances. "I would kindly be glad if help was offered," he told reporters. On Sunday, IOL reported that Deputy Police Minister Dr Polly Boshielo has called for society to help the authorities combat gender-based violence at Mongale's funeral in Bloemfontein. Boshielo extended her condolences to Mongale's family, particularly her mother, Poppy Mongale. "We may not have been able to prevent the death of your child, but one of her perpetrators is now in permanent custody and will never rise again to terrorise other women," she said. Olorato Mongale was recently found dead after going on a date. Silent protest at Parktown High School for Girls targets GBV+F crisis
In the continuous fight against gender-based violence and femicide (GBV+F), on May 26, Parktown High School for Girls organised a silent protest at the school. Learner and organiser of the initiative Ayanda Mehlomakhulu said she decided to be part of the initiative because she wanted to take a stand against the heinous crime. 'I decided to involve the school in taking a stand and having a moment of silence because GBV+F is a crime that is constantly on the rise, and nothing seems to be done about it.' 'Being a young woman in 2025 is about using your voice to speak up about issues that are important to our generation. 'This includes the revival of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on GBV+F, tasked with co-ordinating government interventions, resolving systemic bottlenecks, and ensuring measurable progress. The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NatJoints) is leading the co-ordination of frontline safety and protection efforts.'
