Texas, Texas A&M Set for Black Friday kickoff in 2025 Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown It will mark the first time the Aggies head to Austin since 2010.
The Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies will head to Austin for their storied football rivalry on Black Friday this fall, with kickoff for the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown set for 6:30 p.m. Central time on Friday, Nov. 28, at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, the schools announced Thursday.
The 2025 meeting marks a return to a Thanksgiving weekend tradition, as it will be the first time since 2007 that the game is played on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The rivalry was played on Thanksgiving Day from 2008 to 2011, and prior to that, it was regularly scheduled for the Friday of the holiday weekend from 1996 to 2007. In total, Texas and Texas A&M have met 15 times on the day after Thanksgiving and 84 of their 119 matchups have been held on Thanksgiving or the following day.
This year's game will be the 120th meeting in a series that dates back to 1894. Texas leads the all-time series 77-37-5, including a 46-12-1 advantage in Austin. The Longhorns have won four of the last five contests, with the only loss in that span coming in Austin in 2010. The 2025 matchup will be the first time the teams have played in Austin since 2010, following games in College Station in 2011 and 2024.
The Longhorns are entering their fifth season under coach Steve Sarkisian. Over the past two seasons, Texas has posted a 25-5 record, reached consecutive College Football Playoff semifinals, made an SEC Championship Game appearance and captured a Big 12 title. Texas opens the 2025 season on Aug. 30 at Ohio State, with its home opener against San Jose State on Sept. 6. Other home games include UTEP (Sept. 13), Sam Houston (Sept. 20), Vanderbilt (Nov. 1), Arkansas (Nov. 22) and the Lone Star Showdown against Texas A&M (Nov. 28).

NBA legend Don Nelson wears Luka Doncic shoes to protest 'tremendous mistake' by Mavericks

Don Nelson, the former Dallas Mavericks head coach, accepted the Chuck Daily Lifetime Achievement Award before Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday. Nelson, who has been living in Hawaii since being away from the game, carried a message with him for the franchise he used to lead on the court. During his press conference, Nelson made sure everyone in the building knew that he was wearing Luka Doncic's new shoes from Nike. Why? He thinks the Mavericks and GM Nico Harrison made a "tremendous mistake" trading him to the Los Angeles Lakers. "I want everybody to know I'm wearing Luka's shoes, his new shoes from Nike…and I'm wearing them in protest for the trade from Dallas," Nelson told the crowd. "I think it was a tremendous mistake by the Dallas franchise to trade him. I want everybody to know that." Nelson is a part of a mass group that believes Harrison made the wrong move in trading Doncic to Los Angeles, which was one of the most shocking trades in recent memory anywhere in professional sports. Mavericks fans let Harrison know it, too, as chants filled stadiums home and away, while a group of fans even held a fake funeral outside American Airlines Center days after the deal went down in February. Dallas, though, may have gotten bailed out after the NBA Draft Lottery saw them win the No. 1 overall pick. The Mavericks will presumably take Duke's Cooper Flagg later this month. Still, Mavericks fans weren't happy to see Doncic, who helped lead the team to the NBA Finals last year, moving out west. While the Lakers didn't make a deep NBA Playoffs run, Doncic had similar numbers with the Lakers compared to the Mavericks. He averaged 28.2 points per game (28.1 in Dallas) with 8.1 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game over 28 contests. Nelson and many others have their opinions, but what's done is done now for the Mavericks. Time will tell who exactly won the trade. Nelson is a Hall of Famer coach, and one of the best in league history with San Antonio Spurs legend Gregg Popovich being the only one with more coaching wins all-time. He had 1,335 regular-season wins and 75 more in the playoffs during his time coaching the Milwaukee Bucks (1976-87), Golden State Warriors (1988-94), New York Knicks (1995-96), Mavericks (1997-2005), and Warriors once more from 2006-10. Cringe 'Horns Down' recruiting pic by Sooners coach Brent Venables blasted on social media

Cringe 'Horns Down' recruiting pic by Sooners coach Brent Venables blasted on social media Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables puts the 'horns down' with ATH Braxton Lindsey👀 — On3 Recruits (@On3Recruits) June 9, 2025 The rivalry between the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners will always be heated. Just look at last week in the Women's College World Series. Obviously, that rivalry extends to the recruiting trail. But a new picture of OU coach Brent Venables has taken things to a new level. Venables posed with recruit ATH Braxton Lindsey, which isn't the odd part. Many coaches, including Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, pose with recruits that are on campus. But Venables and Lindsey did the 'Horns Down' hand sign and the Sooners coach has, let's just say, an odd look on his face. Longhorns fans aren't fond of 'Horns Down' but many have embraced the signal as living "rent free" in the heads of Texas' rivals. Many feel it's actually embarrassing to continue to do it. That said, from the point of view of rivals like OU, Arkansas and A&M, it is basically way to shoot the middle finger at UT without being "obscene." But in some situations, it borders on "cringe," and Venables' pic has certainly received ridicule on social media. Do you see the difference? One is a straight-up weirdo, and one keeps things professional. — Archibald Quinn-Bo Manning (@fastlane6677) June 9, 2025 I wonder why coach Sark doesn't take cornball photos with recruits like this. — longhorn4life🤘🏿🖕🏿 (@Longhorn_979tx) June 8, 2025 More fingers in those horns down than points scored in 2/3 games vs Texas — J.K. Salinas (@JKSalinas_11) June 9, 2025 I've got no problem with horns down but it's overused. Ok, A&M fans make it their whole personality. — Cole (@Cole___2000) June 9, 2025 If Texas went on a 10-game winning streak over Oklahoma, would the Sooners still do the Horns Down in every photo with great obsession? What would/could kill it as their unofficial hand sign? — Geoff Ketchum (@gkketch) June 9, 2025 Brent Venables is a hop and a skip away from 'cannonball!' — Big CFB Energy (@BigCfbEnergy) June 9, 2025 Am I the only one who finds this corny? — Red Raider Man🌵 (@redraiderman1) June 9, 2025 Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire.

Texas Longhorns add five-star kicker to 2026 class

Texas Longhorns add five-star kicker to 2026 class The Longhorns kicking game got a major boost on Sunday The Texas Longhorns have made another significant addition to their 2026 class. On Sunday, they got a commitment from five-star kicker Jake Collett. The Georgia native is the tenth player to join the Longhorns 2026 class. He chose the Longhorns over various programs, including UConn and Army. Over the last few years, Collett has made headlines with his leg. In Kohl Kicking's rankings, he ranked as the No. 2 overall kicker and No. 60 punter in his class. The newest Longhorn set himself apart at the 2025 Midwest Showcase Camp, where he showed off his range of up to 65 yards. " Collett had his best showing to date at the 2025 Midwest Showcase Camp," Kohl's scouting report said. "He was dominant throughout the drill work and competitions. He won the kickoff competition and had a couple of kickoffs go 75-80 yards with 4.3 seconds of hang time. Collett also showed consistent field goal range out to 65 yards away at camp." Collett joins a 2026 class that is full of talent. It also includes five-stars like quarterback Dia Bell, long snapper Trott O'Neal, and athlete Jermaine Bishop Jr., four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon, and three-star talents like wide receiver Chris Stewart, offensive lineman Nicolas Robertson, and safety Yaheim Riley. That group could continue growing with plenty of talent left on the board. With Collett now officially in the mix, excitement is building over what his future holds. If he can meet expectations, his career in Austin will be full of unforgettable kicks. Texas begins its regular season against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Aug. 30. That is a game Collett and many of his future teammates will be watching closely.
