'Wolfenstein' TV series based on games in the works: 'The story of killing Nazis is evergreen'
A Wolfenstein TV series based on the popular video games is coming our way, and even more eye-catching is the official logline that accompanies the news.
Instead of a lengthy description of what the show will be, it simply states: "The story of killing Nazis is evergreen." (Truly, no notes.)
Wolfenstein is a series of shooter games that depict an alternate history. They largely focus on the character of William "B.J." Blazkowicz, a U.S. solider during World War II who goes behind enemy lines and discovers that the Nazis are using bizarre experiments and the occult in an attempt to shift the war in their favor.
The first game, Castle Wolfenstein, released in 1981. The most recent installments are 2019's Wolfenstein: Youngblood and the VR release Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot.
Variety first reported the news of the TV adaption, which was confirmed by the involved parties on social media.
Patrick Somerville of Station Eleven and Maniac is attached as the show's creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner for Amazon MGM Studios. Also on board as EPs are Jonah Nolan, Lisa Joy, and Athena Wickham from Kilter Films, which produces Amazon's hit Fallout game-to-TV adaptation. On the gaming side, Jerk Gustafsson of Wolfenstein developer MachineGames will executive-produce alongside James Altman of Keyframe Films.
A film version of Wolfenstein was previously announced back in 2012, though it never took off.
It should also be noted that Amazon is fully leaning into adapting video games as high-profile series. After Fallout, the company also have its sights on Mass Effect, God of War, and Warhammer 40,000, the latter starring Henry Cavill.

Gina Carano and Disney settle lawsuit over Mandalorian firing
A Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement to Variety, "The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies.' But, judging by the new "Thursday Murder Club" movie trailer that Netflix just dropped, Chris Columbus' cozy crime adaptation is one movie that genre fans will not want to miss. This trailer gives us a taste of the wit and comedic stylings, whilst also setting up the case and showing our renowned cast tackling the mystery at hand. Judging by this footage, it looks like screenplay writers Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote have preserved the novel's unique, cheeky, and distinctly British sensibility. To me, it looks lively, characterful, and just as fun as the source material. Excited? "The Thursday Murder Club" movie starts streaming exclusively on Netflix from Thursday, August 28.
