Madeleine West details the 'traumatic' birth of her seventh child at the age of 47: 'I've never felt pain on that scale'
Madeleine West has shared candid details about the 'traumatic' birth of her seventh child.
The 47-year-old former Neighbours actress penned a column for this week's Stellar magazine, explaining how she 'felt her C-section'.
'My baby's birth was capital T traumatic. I still choke up talking about it. But talk we must, because when things go pear-shaped... we don't do ourselves any favours,' she wrote.
Madeleine, who gave birth last month, said she refused to be put under anaesthetic as she underwent a Caesarean section because she wanted to be 'present for my baby's first breath.'
'Suffice to say I've never felt pain on that scale... between passing out, gritting my teeth, and dropping the odd F-bomb, I did my best to make it appear tolerable to avoid sedation,' she continued.
'Immediately my body went into shock. Organs started to fail, and I swelled to Michelin Man proportions with extreme oedema.'
'But my mind proved hardest to wrangle. It replayed the sensations on an endless loop, and tries to still, striving to make sense of the incomprehensible.'
Madeleine said she delivered a health baby but this was 'tarnished by pain and an utter loss of control.'
It comes after Madeleine shared a touching tribute to her seven children on Mother's Day.
The former Neighbours actress posted a throwback Christmas picture of herself posing with her six eldest kids to Instagram on Sunday.
A smiling Madeleine can be seen sitting alongside Santa as she hugged one of her children.
The actress used a smiley emoji to obscure the identity of each of her kids in the picture in order to protect their privacy.
The TV star—who shares Phoenix, 19, Hendrix, 16, Xascha, 14, Xanthe, 12, and twins Xalia and Margaux, 10, her ex partner Shannon Bennett added a lengthy message to her children including her newborn in the post.
'My darlings...My magnum opus SEVEN times over!' she began.
'My crazy, cantankerous, curious, clever, chaos of children (collective noun trademarked!)
'Thank you. The woman I've become, as your mum, is the best version of myself I could ever wish to be....
'Thank you for your trust when you reach out for me. Thank you for your forgiveness when I don't have all the answers. Thank you for the love in your eyes when you call my name,' Madeleine said.
'I don't always get it right, but thank you for your patience as I try to do my best.
'The journey has not been easy, what journey ever is?
'It is an honour to bear witness to your trials and tribulations every day, and to witness the incredible people you are and contribute to become,' she continued.
'Please know I love you, now and forever, more than words can say.
'Who knew the human heart could hold so much? And who knew that love could continue to grow, expand and flourish.
'I'm so blessed to be a Mother of Many (even if you lot are a lot harder to train than dragons).
'My babies always and forever. Just call, I'm always here.'

Reality star reveals baby's adorable name after ‘brutal and overwhelming' first week as a mum
REALITY star Caggie Dunlop has revealed the name of her newborn daughter after becoming a mum for the first time. But the Made In Chelsea OG has also been frank with fans about her first week of motherhood, describing it as "brutal". 6 Caggie, 35, has admitted there has been plenty of tears after her birth to her daughter did not go according to plan. She also confirmed she and her boyfriend, whose name she is yet to share, have decided to call their daughter Lola Violet Liddell. Caggie had to stay in hospital for two days following Lola's birth and said she found life tough once they had returned home. Thankfully, the honest new mum has admitted things have started to improve. Caggie made her candid admission alongside a sweet photograph of herself and her boyfriend as they left hospital with Lola Violet. She described their baby girl as "tiny, but oh so mighty". Caggie wrote: "It's been a tender few days of sleepless nights and deep healing - physically, emotionally, psychologically. "Tears of overwhelming joy and love but also of exhaustion. "The hormone crash alone is enough to floor you, but then there's the spiritual expansion that is so great it takes your breath away. "In these first moments of motherhood, I've struggled to find words that truly capture it — but the one I come back to most is otherworldly." Crediting her team of midwives, Caggie continued: "My birth didn't go the way I'd planned but I believe I had the birth I was meant to have. "I was called to face my deepest fears - and divinely, I was graced with the most incredible midwives who held me through every moment. "They made me feel safe, I trusted them. I could cry just thinking about them now as they were real life angels that made would could have been a gruelling birth experience into an overall positive one. "This love is an all consuming and debilitating kind that brings you to your knees. I close my eyes and see her, I dream of her. I have nightmares of worry and confusion thinking I've lost her or imagined her. "I wake moments before she stirs to feed or cry. I'm not quite sure what I've become, but I know I'm not the same. "I think with the anxiety comes instinct, and the former gets a little less sharp and spikey each day." Caggie described the feeling of leaving hospital as "surreal and dreamlike". She has called the first five days of motherhood as "brutal", but added: "I feel like she is settling now which allows me to sleep more than 1 hour in a row! "And the cuddles are just the greatest thing. Trying to soak it all in, go easy on myself and remain in our new born bubble, I know it won't last forever." Caggie is a Made In Chelsea OG and starred in the E4 show for three series. She and her boyfriend discovered they were expecting their first child together in September but held off until February to announce their happy news. Caggie confirmed she had given birth earlier this week alongside some photographs that were taken during her pregnancy. "The initiation into motherhood has been unlike anything I could have imagined," she admitted at the time. "I'm just trying to keep my head above water. I'll share more in the coming days, but for now, we're deep in the 'newborn trenches,' as they say." 6 6 6

She continued: 'Everyday you help me grow into a person who is happy, proud and excited for the future. Thank you for seeing me and loving me anyway' Natalie replied in the comments: 'My love, you have given me strength beyond belief... Shedding light on her experience coming out and the fear that often comes with it, Natalie said it was more of an internal battle than one she was facing with the people around her. 'What I've learnt over this time is that I think I had internalised homophobia myself, so I was terrified about what people would say and think and feel,' she told host Sarrah Le Marquand for the podcast. 'That's just ingrained in growing up in a certain time when you weren't allowed to be.' 'It doesn't mean I don't get scared sometimes but that debilitating fear has gone. And it's beautiful. 'I feel heard, I feel safe, I feel connected.' Natalie and her estranged husband Cameron McGlinchey split after 13 years of marriage in August 2023. The pair, who married in 2011, share daughter Harper, 13, and son Hendrix, 10. Natalie made her public debut with new partner Pip Loth during a low-key outing in Queensland in April 2023. Three-weight world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko retires after more than 400 FIGHTS in lengthy video
BOXING great Vasiliy Lomachenko has announced his retirement - bringing the end to an iconic career. Lomachenko has the greatest amateur record of all time, winning 396 times with just one loss - which he avenged. 6 6 As a professional, the masterful southpaw won titles at feather, super-feather and lightweight. And he dazzled fans with his incredible footwork, combination punching and speed. He beat George Kambosos last May in Australia but has not fought since - rejecting talks to later fight Gervonta Davis. It cast doubt over his future in the sport - and now Loma has confirmed his retirement in a lengthy Instagram video. Loma turned pro in 2013 - a year after the London Games - and did so after winning double Olympic gold. He wanted to fight for world title on his DEBUT - but was unable to do so without a ranking. Loma beat Jose Luis Ramírez in four quick rounds before challenging Orlando Salido for the WBO featherweight title. But Salido - a part-time Uber driver - upset Loma and used veteran tactics to edge out a points decision. That did not deter Loma, though, as he bounced back with victory over Gary Russell Jr in his next fight to become champ after just three bouts. The southpaw sensation then went on an unbeaten run over 13 fights and five years - winning titles at 126lb, 130lb and 135lb. Loma fought at lightweight despite being vastly oversized by his opponents - something that would inevitably catch up with him. Teofimo Lopez stunned him in 2020 to win the unified titles and three years later, Devin Haney would controversially beat Loma on points. Loma returned 12 months later to stop Kambosos in 11 rounds - winning back the IBF belt - but he later vacated the strap. And despite being linked with big-money bouts against the likes of Davis and Shakur Stevenson - it marked the end of the road for one of the sport's greatest. Loma was a fighter inside and outside of the ring - signing up to defend his country after Russia's invasion in February 2022. He enlisted with the Territorial Defence Forces - but eventually returned to boxing to resume his career. 6 6 6 6
