MoviePass, Led And Co-Founded By Stacy Spikes, Lands $100M Investment To Launch Hollywood's First Daily Fantasy Entertainment Platform
New funding has been raised to help movie fans benefit from the entertainment industry.
On May 1, 2025, tech platform MoviePass — with the help of its partner, the C3 Foundation — announced the launch of Mogul, a 'daily fantasy entertainment platform' for Hollywood, according to a press release.
The platform, which is the first of its kind, allows fans to participate in fantasy-style tournaments, head-to-head matchups, and solo challenges where they can apply their insights to predict audience attendance, critic scores, award winners, and more.
'You basically create your own studio by picking real movies, real actors, real directors and the way those projects behave in the real world, and your ability to pick and predict what might happen, impacts your scoring,' explained Stacy Spikes, co-founder and CEO of MoviePass, via an exclusive from Variety.
Furthermore, fans can receive incentives such as blockchain-based digital rewards, including new avatar images and artwork, Inc. reports. In the future, Mogul intends to allow fans to earn cash.
The app is projected to have 200,000 active users on the platform by the end of May 2025 and already has a waitlist of 400,000, Variety shared.
'We're letting people enter in waves in order to not completely overwhelm the system,' Spikes explained to the outlet.
Looking ahead, the goal is revamp MoviePass to improve 'platform features, including data-driven competitions, digital collectibles, rewards-based gameplay and community-led challenges,' said Spikes, per Variety. This will be made possible through a $100 million capital investment from Global Emerging Markets.
'We've always been a company built from a fan perspective,' Spikes also said to the outlet. 'We're not a studio, we're not a theater, but we want to really find a new way of creating engagement around going to the movies. We don't want people to just sit at home. This allows film fans to show the same competitive spirit that sports teams inspire.'

Lisa Kudrow says her Friends character Phoebe ‘was so far from who I am'
US actress Lisa Kudrow has said it was 'a lot of work' playing her Friends character Phoebe Buffay as she 'was so far from who I was as a human being'. The 61-year-old from Los Angeles played one of six friends featured in the hit US sitcom which also starred Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matt Le Blanc and the late Matthew Perry. 'I was really fretting over it. And (Matt) LeBlanc went, 'What's the matter with you?'. I said, 'I'm not doing the work that I did. I used to like really work, and he said, 'You're her. You don't have to do it anymore'.' Alongside her role in Friends, Kudrow is known for starring in a number of TV series as well as comedy films Romy and Michele's High School Reunion and The Opposite Of Sex. In 2023 she thanked her late co-star Perry for 'the best 10 years a person gets to have' while filming Friends in a tribute following his death at the age of 54. During their conversation, Posey, who has starred in films including Dazed And Confused and Superman Returns, spoke about one of her more recent roles playing a southern woman called Victoria Ratliff in season three of Mike White's dark comedy, The White Lotus. She said: 'It was such a gift to have this middle-aged woman at this time in my life, in my career, to be the southern woman. 'I was reading Tennessee Williams in junior high and high school and southern writers and all of this. So I was like, I just ate it up.'

Dakota Johnson Says ‘Madame Web' Flop ‘Wasn't My Fault': Decisions Are Made in Hollywood by ‘People Who Don't Have a Creative Bone in Their Body'
Dakota Johnson recently told the Los Angeles Times on her 'Materialists' press tour that 'Madame Web' flopping with critics and audiences wasn't her fault. The Sony-backed comic book movie was a notorious punching bag in winter 2024, earning a dismal $43 million at the domestic box office and an 11% on Rotten Tomatoes. Johnson headlined the film as Cassandra Webb, a paramedic who gains the ability to see the future after a near-death experience. 'It wasn't my fault,' Johnson said about the movie. 'There's this thing that happens now where a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or made by people who don't have a creative bone in their body. And it's really hard to make art that way. Or to make something entertaining that way. And I think unfortunately with 'Madame Web,' it started out as something and turned into something else. And I was just sort of along for the ride at that point. But that happens. Bigger-budget movies fail all the time.' The paradox. Everyone being confused about what the fuck they're supposed to do with their hearts. And what's the right move? I found that very honest and I found it just so relatable.' Samuel L. Jackson in talks to star in Taylor Sheridan series

Jackson reportedly is in talks to star in a new series created by writer, director and producer Taylor Sheridan. Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported the news Thursday. Jackson's character is expected to be introduced in Season 3 of Sheridan's Sylvester Stallone-led gangster drama, Tulsa King, before he gets his own spin-off, set in New Orleans. David Erickson -- whose credits include Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King -- is onboard as show-runner. Production on Season 3 of Tulsa King is now underway.
