Jordan: Al Muwaqqar Industrial Estate attracts $14mln food manufacturing investment
The agreement, which will establish a 33-dunum facility in Al Muwaqqar Industrial Estate, is expected to create some 150 jobs during its initial operational phase, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
"Jordan's industrial cities, particularly Al Muwaqqar, have become the premier destination for manufacturers looking to establish operations in the Kingdom," said JIEC Director General Omar Juwaid, who signed the agreement with Zaid Bazzaz, General Manager of the Al Mithaliah Arab Company.
Juwaid attributed this growing interest to the competitive investment environment created through tax and customs exemptions, payment facilities, and other incentives provided under Jordan's Investment Law.
"This partnership with Al Mithaliah Arab Company represents one of our most significant investments in the food sector and will showcase Jordanian product quality in markets throughout the region and beyond," Juwaid added.
Al Muwaqqar facility continues its rapid growth trajectory, attracting 26 industrial companies with investments totalling JD95 million in 2024 alone.
The industrial estate now hosts 103 companies across food manufacturing, engineering, packaging, textiles, and other sectors, with a cumulative investment of JD641 million that has generated more than 4,700 jobs.
Bazzaz described Al Mithaliah Arab Company as "a leading regional beverage manufacturer committed to developing local production capacity to serve both domestic and export markets."
"We selected Al Muwaqqar after careful evaluation of the incentives and logistics advantages that will enable us to reach global markets efficiently," he said, noting that the agreement demonstrates a shared commitment to enhancing Jordan's industrial ecosystem through modern infrastructure development.
Established in 2011, Al Muwaqqar Industrial Estate spans 2,500 dunums developed across three phases, with its most recent expansion adding 305 dunums to accommodate growing demand, according to Petra.
The facility is strategically located east of Amman near the international highway connecting Jordan with Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

Jordan: ACI exports reach $5.9bln in first 7 months of 2025
AMMAN — Exports from the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) rose by 14.9 per cent during the first seven months of 2025, according to statistics data monitored on Wednesday. According to statistical data obtained by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the chamber's exports, based on certificates of origin it issued, reached JD4.207 billion in the first seven months of 2025, compared with JD3.660 billion for the same period last year. Eight industrial sub-sectors recorded increases in their exports during the reporting period, ranging from 2.5 per cent for therapeutic and medical supplies to 78 per cent for construction industries. Exports from the wood and furniture sector declined by 8.2 per cent, while the packaging, paper, cardboard, and office supplies sector dropped by 7.6 per cent. Four countries—India, the US, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq—accounted for more than half of the ACI's exports in the first seven months of this year, with a combined total of JD2.421 billion. In terms of geographic distribution during the January–July period of 2025, Arab countries topped the list with JD2 billion in exports, followed by non-Arab Asian countries with JD935 million, and North American countries with JD723 million. Exports to EU countries totalled JD252 million, while exports to non-EU European countries stood at JD135 million. Visitor numbers to ancient city of Petra slump during Gaza war
Jordan has experienced a sharp drop in visitors to its ancient city of Petra and other sites since war broke out in Gaza almost two years ago. Figures released by the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority show visitors dropping from almost 1.2 million in 2023 to fewer than 460,000 last year – a decrease of about 61 per cent. "We feel the repercussions of the aggression on Gaza every day, especially for providers of tourism services," Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat, the director of the national tourism board, told TV channel Al Mamlaka. Mr Arabiyat said tourism from Europe and North America has hit a record low, dealing a devastating blow to the hotel industry and tour operators around Petra, in Jordan's south. According to figures from the Petra tourism authority carried by official media, 32 hotels have had to shut down and almost 700 people have lost their jobs. Although Jordan does not share a border with Gaza, it is among many countries across the Middle East affected by the war between Israel and Hamas. The kingdom has worked with the UAE to fly food into Gaza and sought to use its diplomatic influence to bring about a ceasefire. Petra, famous for its stunning temples hewn from rose-pink cliff faces, is a Unesco world heritage site. The Jordanian economy relies on revenues from the kingdom's tourism sector, which accounts for 14 per cent of gross domestic product. Jordan's tourism board had hoped to keep numbers steady from a pre-war figure of 5.4 million visitors a year across the country. Mr Arabiyat told The National in May 2024 that "we need to at least maintain this number this year, and we hope it will not decrease". Last August, it was revealed that Middle East plane tickets issued in a 10-day period during the height of summer were seven per cent down year on year, with Jordan and Lebanon suffering the biggest drops.

Jordan: ACC issues 22,674 certificates of origin in 7 months
AMMAN — The number of certificates of origin issued by the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) for exporting goods increased by 5.1 per cent during the first seven months of the year, compared to the same period last year. According to statistical data obtained by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the number of certificates of origin issued by the ACC during the January-July period of 2025 reached 22,674, up from 21,566 during the same period in the previous year. The data also showed a 4.4 per cent decrease in the total value of these certificates, which fell to JD763 million from JD798 million for the same period last year. Iraq topped the list of countries importing from Jordan in terms of the value of certificates of origin, with goods worth some JD349 million and 1,965 certificates issued. It was followed by Saudi Arabia with JD61 million and 5,165 certificates. Egypt came next with JD54 million and 566 certificates, followed by Syria with JD46 million and 2,462 certificates, and Switzerland with about JD44 million and 12 certificates. These five countries were among the highest in terms of both value and number of certificates. In terms of the types of products exported, foreign-origin goods (re-exported items) accounted for JD386 million. Industrial products reached JD149 million, agricultural goods JD100 million, Arab-origin products JD61 million, while the remainder covered other types of goods. A certificate of origin is a document used in international trade to certify that goods in a particular shipment were produced, manufactured, or processed in a specific country. Customs authorities use this document to determine the eligibility of goods, verify their origin and apply appropriate tariffs. ACC issues certificates of origin for Jordanian agricultural and animal products, raw natural resources, re-exported foreign goods and foreign goods purchased locally under certain conditions.
