Your iPhone Is About to Get a Helpful New Charging Feature
Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is set to kick off next week — on June 9th — and, as is tradition, it's going to give us a first look at the next-gen software updates coming to all its various devices in the fall.
iOS 19 is the upcoming major software update for iPhones (although there are reports that Apple will jump to iOS 26, a more convenient naming convention for 2026) and, naturally, it's expected to deliver a new look and a lot of new features.
And, if the rumors are true, one of those is a new charging feature that could be super useful for any iPhone user on the go.
In November, with the second beta of iOS 18.2, there was code uncovered hinting at a new feature called 'BatteryIntelligence.' This was an Apple Intelligence feature that was supposed to provide an estimate of how long it would take your iPhone to fully charge (or reach the charge limit you've set).
However, when iOS 18.2 was rolled out, as well as all subsequent iOS 18 updates, this feature never materialized.
That's expected to finally change once iOS 19 is rolled out. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the upcoming operating system will add 'a lock-screen indicator showing how long it will take to charge up' your iPhone.
This way, you'll have an idea how long you'll need to let your iPhone charge before you grab it and go — no need to even unlock your iPhone.
Of course, it's unclear how your iPhone will know what kind of charger you'll be using (as wired charging is still much faster than wireless charging, MagSafe or not). But we'll learn more of those details in good time.
Apple is expected to announce iOS 19 — or iOS 26, if rumors are correct — on June 9th at WWDC. The software update will then be rolled out to the general public in September, following the announcement of the new iPhones.
Given that this feature is expected to harness Apple Intelligence, you'll likely need an iPhone that supports it. That means you'll need to have an iPhone 16 (any model) or an iPhone 15 Pro/Max.

Apple iPhone 17 Pro: Radical New Design Claimed In New Report
A new report claims that the materials which will be used in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max (thought to go on sale on Friday, Sept. 19 — read full details of the release schedule here) are going to change significantly from what's in the iPhone 16 Pro right now. There has been persistent talk of a switch from a titanium chassis (which is what the Pro iPhones currently have) to aluminum. The latest leak suggests that an aluminum chassis will be used, and an aluminum backplate, but for a cut-out of glass. Vadim Yuryev, host of the Max Tech YouTube channel has posted on X that explains, 'ass, including a leaked photo of a REAL milled aluminum chassis from @MajinBuOfficial that many people missed,' as he puts it. The post shows what claims to be an iPhone 17 chassis made of metal, with the surrounds for the iPhone's cameras and the camera panel itself made of metal, not glass. If true, and the jury's still out on that, it would be a radical design change. It's been years since the iPhone has had a metal back, favoring glass not least because it makes wireless charging possible. The cut-out on the back would be to allow a glass section, so this form of charging can still happen. Well, it's possible, I guess. Google had a similar system for a recent Pixel phone, (the Pixel 8a) which had a composite material over the metal frame, again to allow wireless charging through a cut-out. And aluminum could allow a lightweight way to build strength into the chassis. Even so, I'll confess that I'm skeptical. Still, Tim Hardwick at MacRumros has a good point: 'Aluminum is roughly 40% lighter than titanium at similar volumes, so we could see the iPhone 17 Pro models carrying less weight. Aluminum is also a far better thermal conductor than titanium, so heat generated by the A19 Pro chip and battery may dissipate faster. Apple is also rumored to be using a new internal design that incorporates a vapor chamber heatsink to improve thermal performance,' he says. More details as they emerge.

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) CEO Tim Cook earned the title of "tech's Trump whisperer" in the president's first term, and he just may have shown why. Cook gifted President Donald Trump a glass plaque with a 24-karat gold base on Aug. 6. The move came as he announced at the White House that Apple would invest $100 billion in the U.S. over the next four years, adding to the $500 billion the company had announced in February. The plaque was engraved with Trump's name, a reference to Apple's U.S. manufacturing efforts, Cook's signature and the phrase "MADE IN USA." Cook's gift may offer a masterclass on how to curry favor with the president, combining two things of apparent symbolic importance to Trump: gold and the military. From golden tweezers to gold merchandise and, most recently, the gold card visa, Trump's love for gold is well documented. In the same vein, he is also known for his love of displays of military might, though his treatment of veterans has come under question. "Elected leaders and business titans from around the world are traveling to the Oval Office to make historic investments into America because of President Trump's bold vision," White House spokesperson Davis Ingle told Axios. "Often these leaders are eager to share gifts highlighting the exciting work they are doing." Nonetheless, for Cook and Apple, the recent presentation has had the desired effect. During the meeting, Trump announced plans for a 100% tariff on semiconductor chips, adding that Apple would be exempt from the charge."The good news for companies like Apple is if you're building in the United States or have committed to build in the United States, there will be no charge," Trump said. Despite this major U.S. commitment and a personal exemption from new chip tariffs, Apple still faces significant challenges navigating the global trade landscape created by Trump. Cook said in May that tariffs on goods from India and Vietnam could add $900 million to its costs in its fiscal Q2. iPhone 17 release date rumors — this could be the full schedule
Summer's winding down, and that means Apple's big annual keynote is just around the corner, promising exciting new announcements about the iPhone 17 line-up, new Apple Watches, and more. While Apple hasn't revealed the rollout's full schedule yet, the rhythm of iPhone launches feels as predictable as the turning leaves. If history serves, we have a pretty good guess when you'll be able to get your hands on a shiny new iPhone 17. Rumors suggest Apple will unveil its major fall product line-ups on September 9. If history serves, we expect the event to take place at the company's Cupertino campus, where the iPhone 17 series will be revealed. Notably, Apple's rumored to shake up the iPhone lineup this time around by replacing the Plus model with the super-thin iPhone 17 Air. In addition to the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro, we expect Apple to debut the Apple Watch Series 11 and possibly the Apple Watch Ultra 3. A new version of the AirPods Pro, an updated Apple TV 4K, and the long-awaited smart home hub HomePod 3 could also make an appearance. Apple tends to roll out pre-orders on the Friday after the initial announcement, with sales going live the Friday after that. So if history serves, the iPhone 17 could go on sale on Friday, September 19. As for iOS 26, the latest update expected to ship with the iPhone 17, that's easy to pin down as well. Last year, Apple pushed out iOS 18 on September 16, exactly one week after its annual keynote and four days before the iPhone 16 series went on sale. If Apple follows the same pattern, we can expect iOS 26 to arrive on either Monday, September 15, or Tuesday, September 16. We don't have long to wait until we learn more.
