Woman shot dead at village pub on Valentine's Day

Telegraph15-02-2025

A woman in her 40s was shot dead at a pub near Sevenoaks, Kent, on Valentine's Day, police have said.
Emergency services were called to the Three Horseshoes pub in Knockholt at just after 7pm on Friday following reports that a woman had suffered serious injuries.
Kent Police said officers attended the scene along with the South East Coast Ambulance Service. The woman had suffered injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.
The force said: 'She was declared deceased at the scene, and a murder investigation is under way.'
Police are searching for a man after a suspect fled the area, and said efforts to find him and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident were ongoing.
'We've never had anything like this'
At around midnight, police searching for the killer found a vehicle containing a gun on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, which crosses the River Thames at Dartford, around 14 miles away.
A spokesman said: 'The suspect, a man who is believed to be known to the victim, left the area. Inquiries to locate him and to establish the full circumstances are ongoing.
'As part of inquiries, officers attended the Dartford Crossing where a vehicle linked to the incident was recovered, alongside a firearm. Inquiries are ongoing to identify and locate all persons potentially involved.'
Ray Picot, a local parish councillor, told Kent Online he had heard 'a couple of loud bangs' at 7pm.
He added: 'It's a shock. We've never had anything like this. It's a very busy pub – a great pub. It never has any trouble and is very well managed. I understand those inside the pub were ushered back to their houses by police as they were all in terrible shock. It sounded awful.'
A message posted on the Three Horseshoes' Facebook page said it would remain closed on Saturday following a 'tragic incident outside the pub last night'.

Man who crashed into McDonald's is arrested on suspicion of murder after dead woman in her 30s is later found in home

A man who crashed into a McDonald's has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a dead woman in her 30s was later found in a home. The 35-year-old crashed his blue Skoda Superb car into the fast food restaurant in the town of Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire, at around 3.30pm yesterday. Emergency services rushed to the chain takeaway just off the A14, on Folley Way, where police grilled the man. This revealed there was a woman lying dead at an address on residential street Donnington Road, less than a five-minute drive away. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody today for questioning by major crime team detectives. One resident said the usually quiet, sleepy town was hit with a heavy police and forensics presence in the wake of the crash, The Sun reports. Officers from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) have launched a murder investigation and are appealing for information. The specialist body's DI Torie Harrison stressed it is currently believed to be 'an isolated incident with no risk to the wider community'. But officers will have 'an enhanced presence' in the town in the next few days 'to provide reassurance and support as inquiries continue'. The senior investigating officer continued: 'Following the tragic discovery of a woman's body in Burton Latimer yesterday afternoon, our thoughts and condolences are with everyone who knew and loved her. 'We have established a comprehensive and fast-moving investigation into the circumstances of her death, with one arrest made. 'I know news of this death will cause immense concern and distress to people in the local area.' A Northamptonshire Police spokesperson said: 'Roads Policing officers attended and inquiries led to the discovery of the body of a woman aged in her 30s at an address in Donnington Road.' They emphasised: 'Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. 'Neighbourhood Policing Teams are carrying out additional patrols in Burton Latimer to provide community support and reassurance and anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak to them.' Anyone with information, including CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage, is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
