Assaulted Ashford man reunites with ambulance crew who helped him
A man who was badly injured in an assault has reunited with the ambulance team who came to his Lopez, from Ashford in Kent, was left with a double shoulder fracture, head trauma, facial wounds and damage to his ribs after being attacked near his home in urgent response crew of Martin Wright and Jonathan Shaw were sent to the scene by resource dispatcher Olivia Manchester after a passer-by called crew, who transported Mr Lopez to William Harvey Hospital for further treatment, has since reunited with their patient face to face. 'Frightening incident' He said he was thankful for the help of the ambulance crew as he could not remember everything from the night of the attack."I have a 10 to 12-hour gap in my memory, but I do know I wouldn't be here recovering if it weren't for them," he said."It means a lot to be able to say thank you in person."Ms Manchester, who works for the South East Coast Ambulance Service, said: "As dispatchers, we're all ears and no eyes, so it was incredible to finally meet Martin in person after such a frightening incident."Mr Wright, an emergency care support worker, added: "It was genuinely a lovely surprise to hear that Martin was recovering well, and even better that he wanted to meet in person."

Music festival attendee 'dies in hospital' after event closed early due to heat
A 21-year-old attendee at Margate Drum and Bass Festival in Dreamland has reportedly died after being taken to the hospital yesterday. Dreamland shut down suddenly yesterday around 6.30 pm, hours before the scheduled end time, because organisers said it was 'just too hot'. News of the young man taking ill spread quickly yesterday, and was confirmed when Kent Police said they were aware of a 'medical incident' at the festival. South East Coast Ambulance Service said they took the ill person to the hospital, but his death is only now being reported. He has not been identified. Kent Online reported that local councillors were sent a note last night, reading: 'Very sadly, a 21-year-old man was taken by blue light services from Dreamland and died at QEQM (Hospital). 'We understand that medical advisers approved the medical provisions set up by Dreamland for this event, but of course, police will carry out a proper investigation. Person 'seriously ill' in hospital after Margate festival
A person was taken to hospital from a music festival in Kent in a "very serious" condition, an ambulance service has Police said it was "aware of a medical incident" at Margate Drum and Bass Festival at Dreamland in the seaside town on Saturday. The event had been due to end at 22:45 BST but at about 18:30 organisers posted on X, saying: "Sorry guys, it was just too hot today, so we had to close early. Get home safely."South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed it had taken the seriously ill person to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. In a statement on Saturday evening, Kent Police said: "We are aware of a medical incident at Dreamland in Margate, which was hosting an event that has now closed." A spokesperson from Thanet District Council said on Sunday: "We were informed that an event at Dreamland on Saturday was closed early due to the heat and a medical related incident."We await further details relating to the event."The festival was due to feature artists including Andy C, Wilkinson and K amber heat alert is in force across most of England, meaning health services and members of the public could be affected by the heat, according to the UK Health Security Agency. In June 2024, 17-year-old Emily Stokes died after taking MDMA at a drum and base event at the attraction. Kent Police and Dreamland have been approached for comment.

Section of A2 in Kent closed after serious crash
Part of the A2 in Kent has been closed following a serious crash, National Highways has said. Traffic was held in both directions between the A2018 near Bexley and the M25 near Dartford shortly after 17:15 BST on Friday. The road was reopened westbound with vehicles released past the scene shortly after 18:40. The eastbound road will remain closed for an investigation into the cause of the crash. National Highways said an air ambulance and other emergency services were at the scene. Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service have been contacted for more information. Emergency services were called to the Royal Terrace Pier, in Gravesend, Kent at around 1.45pm. One child has been recovered, but the search continues for a second youngster, according to Coastguard officials. Metropolitan Police boats are carrying out the urgent rescue operation, with the RNLI assisting. A police helicopter and South East Coast Ambulance Service were also sent to the scene. Kent Police was called by the Port of London Authority. An HM Coastguard spokesman said: 'HM Coastguard is responding to a report of two children in difficulty in the water near the Royal Terrace Pier, Gravesend. 'The alarm was raised at about 1.35pm on 30 May. One child has been recovered and the search is ongoing for a second. 'Metropolitan Police boats are attending as well as the RNLI lifeboat from Gravesend, Kent. 'Police, and a police helicopter. South East Coast Ambulance Service was sent.' A Kent Police spokesperson said: 'Kent Police was called by the Port of London Authority at 1.46pm on Friday to concerns for the welfare of two people who had entered the river at Royal Pier Road, Gravesend.
