The initiative aimed to promote a balanced diet, encourage physical activity and highlight the importance of avoiding harmful lifestyle habits.
Resident physicians specialising in general surgery, internal medicine, psychiatry and pediatrics participated in the event, providing expert consultations on obesity treatment and prevention strategies. The event, held at City Centre Muscat, emphasised the risks of obesity, its underlying causes and the psychological factors associated with weight management.
Attendees engaged actively in discussions, learning about effective ways to prevent obesity, maintain a healthy lifestyle and receive personalised guidance through individual and group consultations.

The event also aligned with the objectives of World Obesity Day, observed on March 4 each year, which seeks to raise awareness of obesity-related health risks and encourage people to adopt preventive measures. Experts stressed the importance of physical activity, early intervention and the application of appropriate treatment strategies, including medical and surgical options when necessary, to support safe and sustainable weight loss.
As obesity remains a growing global health concern, OMSB reaffirmed its commitment to fostering community and healthcare efforts to combat the issue, emphasising the importance of prevention and early treatment in ensuring a healthier society. — ONA

Meeting discusses healthcare in Muscat

MUSCAT: Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat, on Wednesday met Dr Fatima bint Mohammed al Ajmiyah, Executive President for Oman Medical Specialty Board and Chairperson of the Healthcare Sector Employment Governance Committee, to discuss priority employment initiatives. These include programmes for hiring dentists, medical coders and pharmacists, as well as an initiative to retrain certain graduates of healthcare academic institutions. This involves upskilling them to meet labour market demands — such as retraining healthcare management graduates as medical coders. The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation between Muscat Governorate and the Healthcare Sector Employment Governance Committee, supporting initiatives that expand job opportunities and Omanisation in the governorate's healthcare sector, aligned with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. The session also introduced the committee's role in assessing the demand for medical and healthcare professionals, determining workforce requirements and developing initiatives to sustain employment rates and ensure sector stability. Discussions highlighted flexible initiatives to leverage national competencies, such as the freelancing programme, while emphasising the need for coordination between government healthcare entities and private sector institutions. This meeting reflects Muscat Governorate's commitment to fostering integration among government bodies and advancing national initiatives in partnership with relevant stakeholders. - ONA
