The internet is going crazy for hypochlorous acid spray — here's how it can benefit your skin
Whether it's a new sheet mask or using an unexpected item as a spot treatment, it can often feel like there's a new must-have skin care product being raved about on social media every other day. And most of the time, experts will tell you the hype isn't all it's cracked up to be. But recently, beauty-obsessed TikTokers have been touting their love for hypochlorous acid spray as a complexion saviour — and many dermatologists are agreeing that it really can be an effective tool in your skin care arsenal.
To learn more about hypochlorous acid sprays — including what they are, what they do and which ones are worth your money — we turned to experts who have experience with them. Check out what they had to say below.
What is hypochlorous acid spray?
Long before it was used as a skin care product, hypochlorous acid spray was used in clinical settings thanks to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-safe properties, says Dr. Anetta Reszko, a board-certified dermatologist in New York. 'It also happens to be a naturally occurring molecule produced by the body's white blood cells as part of the immune response and plays a key role in defending against infection by targeting harmful bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens.'
More recently, hypochlorous acid spray has become a popular skin care product because its antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties can help combat several skin issues, like acne, eczema, sunburns and more. 'It soothes reactive or inflamed skin, relieves itching, and supports healing, all while being gentle enough for daily use, says Reszko. 'And because it mimics a substance your body already produces, it's well-tolerated, non-drying, and won't lead to antibiotic resistance like some prescription treatments can.'
How I picked the best hypochlorous acid sprays
When shopping for a hypochlorous acid spray to use on your face, experts recommend prioritizing the following criteria:
Concentration: 'The potency of hypochlorous acid varies depending on its concentration,' says Reszko, who explains that higher concentrations will be more potent. It's important to note that it's not necessarily a good thing when using it on your face. Those with sensitive skin may want to look for lower concentrations. Regarding exact concentrations to look for, Dr. Jason Emer is a board-certified dermatologist in Beverly Hills and founder of Emer Skin, says you should opt for between 100 to 200 parts per million (PPM) to deliver antimicrobial benefits without irritating the skin.
pH balance: Along with concentration, you'll want to pay attention to the pH balance of the hypochlorous acid spray you use. 'A gentle pH level that ranges from 4 to 6 for daily use and helps maintain the skin's natural barrier,' says Emer.
Packaging: 'Hypochlorous acid is sensitive to light and air, which can degrade its effectiveness, so choosing a spray that comes in opaque or dark-colored bottles can maximize its potency,' says Reszko.
The best hypochlorous acid sprays of 2025
To come up with the list of best hypochlorous acid sprays, we looked for options that meet the criteria given by our experts and that have at least a 4-star average rating from hundreds of reviews.
Tower 28, which makes one of our favorite lip balms, has one of the most popular hypochlorous acid sprays on the market. The acid calms irritated skin, while the 4.5 pH balance helps to keep your skin barrier strong. This spray can be used morning and night and should be used in place of toner before moisturizing.
Briotech Topical Skin Spray
This spray can be used on the body, face or even eyelids and can help soothe eczema flare-ups or generally irritated skin. The formula is free of fragrances and preservatives, making it a good option for sensitive skin users. It has a 4.5-star average rating from 10,515 reviews on Amazon and comes in various sizes.
E11ement Hypochlorous Acid Spray
This hypochlorous acid spray has a 150 ppm and can either be spritzed on skin or applied to a cotton ball and then applied. Reviewers say it's helped them with irritation, dry eyes, tattoo healing and more.
'The spray is considered very gentle, pure with its .01% concentration, and widely recommended across dermatologic and ophthalmologic use cases (i.e., eyelid dermatitis and perioral dermatitis),' says Reszko. 'The product is safe near the eyes (ophthalmology-grade) and appropriate for sensitive skin.' One thing to note: At .68 ounces, it's the smallest bottle on our list.
This spray, which has a 4.7-star average rating from over 960 reviews on Amazon, has a .015% concentration and a 5.5 pH balance, so it shouldn't irritate sensitive skin. Also helpful: The formula is hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic to prevent breakouts from sprouting up.

The Best Korean Haircare Products To Try Now
As far as regional beauty markets are concerned, South Korea has steadily established itself as the hotspot. Churning out the kind of trailblazing trends (read: glass skin) and industry-shaking products (think: BB creams, collagen jelly creams and sheet masks) that TikTokers and experts alike are quick to get on board with. Dubbed K-beauty, it's the skin and make-up category that many established brands around the world routinely look to for cues when developing their own products. Leading with innovative formulations, new-gen delivery systems and unique ingredients, the K-beauty appeal has transcended social media feeds and landed on the high street in very little time at all. And now it's coming for your hair. Since 2024, Boots has stocked its shelves with viral beauty products from leading K-beauty brands like Beauty of Joseon, Anua, and Medicube and this week the high street giant unveiled a brand new influx of K-beauty haircare. In its annual Beauty Trends Report 2025, Boots identified 'beauty without borders' as one of the biggest beauty trends of the year and predicted that Korean skincare would continue to hit the mark with UK consumers. As for haircare, Boots' move into this K-beauty market is timely. TikTok searches for #koreanhaircare more than doubled in the second half of May with a spike of 117%. As a response, Boots has brought Korea's number one shampoo brand - Kundal - and traditional herbal remedy experts, Daeng Gi Meo Ri, into the fold, to provide customers with new high-tech hair solutions, all while giving K-beauty megafans more reason to head to its beauty halls. Much like its skincare offerings, Korean haircare goes big on innovative ingredient-led formulas. Just as K-beauty's focus is on a fostering a healthy skin barrier, so in haircare its MO is to nourish the skin on our scalps. This explains the new wave of Korean head spas cropping up in the UK and hitting your social media feeds. Grace Vernon, head of global foresight and trends at Boots and No7 Beauty Company, explains, 'Korean haircare stands out globally for its ability to combine the most cutting-edge innovation, multi-functional formulas and luxurious quality at an accessible price point. Korean haircare is rooted in the same philosophy that made K-Skincare such a global phenomenon, focusing on scalp health, preventative care, and holistic wellbeing. The products offer a more comprehensive approach than many traditional haircare systems, often with multiple benefits such as anti-hair loss, scalp soothing, and long-lasting results built into a single formula like Daeng Gi Meo Ri Dlae Soo Hair Care Shampoo, £22.' The very rituals that made K-beauty stand apart from its counterparts, like 'the ritualisation of self-care, a holistic approach to beauty and health, use of herbal and natural ingredients, and the layering of multi-step routines,' is similarly what underpins Korean haircare says Vernon, 'as with beauty, haircare is viewed as a vital form of self-care and inspired by the multi-step Korean skincare routines such as scalp cleansing, treatments, and leave-in care to achieve optimal results.' ‘Omg – how sad' people say as mum-of-two sparks horror by sharing snap of her toddler ‘vaping'
The mum was later forced to clarify what the 'vape' really was VAPE A MINUTE? 'Omg – how sad' people say as mum-of-two sparks horror by sharing snap of her toddler 'vaping' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A MOTHER-OF-TWO has sparked horror after sharing a photo of her toddler ''vaping''. Alysha Elsom left social media users horrified after posting a series of snaps of her adorable tots - one of which also included a photo of a little girl holding what, at first glance, seemed to be a vape. However, what really caught the attention of more than 500k fellow TikTokers was the plastic blue item the tot was holding. Due to the shape and the vibrant colour of the object thousands of gobsmacked people quickly - and wrongly - assumed that the girl was puffing on a vape. The experts at NHS warn that vaping is not for children and young people. Their developing lungs and brains mean they are more sensitive to its effects. Although nicotine vaping is less harmful than smoking, it is not risk-free. That's why there's a minimum age of sale for vaping products in the UK. It is illegal to sell nicotine vaping products to anyone under 18 or for adults to buy them on behalf of under-18s. Additionally, exposure of children and adolescents to nicotine in vaping solutions can lead to long-term negative impacts on brain development, as well as addiction, as reported by Science Direct. They added that many teenagers who vape experience poor concentration, anxiety, mood disorders and sleep disturbance. A paper from NEJM in 2022 reported a case series where chronic vaping resulted in small airway fibrosis of the airways - a condition where the lungs become scarred, making it difficult to breathe. Police raid largest spice vapes operation after kids were left hospitalised 'Did I see that correctly?' Posted just two days ago, the clip has already taken the platform by storm, racking up close to an astronomical 560k views, 20k likes, as well as almost 800 shares. Over 500 people flooded to comments in sheer horror, with many totally aghast at what they had just seen. The 4 horrifying things that can happen to your body after vaping VAPES were once hailed as miracle devices to help adults ditch cigarettes. But while the devices don't carry the same risks as tobacco, experts have warned that vaping might not be so harmless after all. Here are five ways vaping could damage young users bodies: 1. It could slow down brain development Vaping nicotine can permanently affect brain development in people under the age of 25, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It said that nicotine consumed during teenage years can harm the parts of the brain that control attention, learning, mood, and impulse control, as well as increase the risk of addiction. 2. It could lead to tooth decay Dr Michael Heffernan, a dentist at The Wessex Dental Specialist Care, said most vapes contain dangerous chemical that can harm your teeth and lead to decay. Puffing on the devices could also lead to mouth dryness, creating an environment in which harmful bacteria can grow. 3. It could damage heart health However, some of the chemicals found in vapes can be damaging to the heart, with the American Heart Association (AHA) stating that vaping is "as harmful to the body's cardiovascular systems as cigarettes". 4. It could cause lung disease Vaping from a young age could leave children with breathing difficulties, with paediatric respiratory consultant Dr Mike McKean saying he'd seen reports of people developing lung disease related to vaping. Researchers from the US also found that young people who vape are more at risk of bronchitis, inflammation of the airways, and shortness of breath. Read more on how vaping can affect your health here. ''Did i see that correctly..?!'' one was baffled. ''no way u guys genuinely thought her baby was holding a vape,'' a second wrote. ''got scared for sec,'' someone else chimed in, as another dubbed it ''so sad''. ''Why is the vape in the baby mouth,'' a fourth commented. ''fully thought it was a lost mary,'' a TikToker said. After the short clip left thousands gobsmacked, mum Alysha explained what really was going on in the photo - revealing that it was actually ''a toy thermometer''. This was also backed up by another mum who hit back at the trolls, writing: ''It's a peppa pig thermometer my wee girl has the same thing.''

'I lost six stone on weight loss jab - horrible side effects no one talks about'
After losing a huge six stone due to Mounjaro, one woman has shared some of the other symptoms she has noticed since she started taking the jab nearly a year ago A woman has revealed how she's managed to drop six stone thanks to taking a weight loss jab - but has shared some of the grim side effects it comes with. Bethany Diana has gone from a size 18 to size eight and says it's made her a "better version" of herself thanks to Mounjaro (tirzepatide). But despite the staggering weight loss, she has shared how she's noticed other symptoms from the jab. Mounjaro is usually prescribed on the NHS to those with type two diabetes, and it has a side effect of weight loss, which makes it appealing to those trying to lose weight. Known as GLP-1 agonists, Mounjaro, Wegovy and Ozempic work to slow digestion and reduce appetite by mimicking hormones which regulate hunger and feelings of fullness. They are designed to act like one of these hormones, known as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1). Bethany, 27, has been open about her weight loss journey online, posting under the name @bethanydianax, including the side effects such as diarrhoea and bad breath. In her video, she has managed to rack up over 109,000 likes and nearly 80,000 likes. Some of the other nasty side effects Bethany has been experiencing since first taking the jab in July 2024 is hair loss, and 'Sulphur burbs' which are particularly unpleasant. Sulphur burps are burbs which have a nasty rotten egg smell, and happen when there is hydrogen sulfide gas in the gut. Bethany also detailed how she's also suffered with constipation, nausea, heartburn, wind and reflux too. She also said the jabs have suppressed her appetite, something that helps with weight loss as it makes you feel fuller for longer than usual. But one of the other downsides that Bethany shared in a separate video is that Mounjaro "stole my booty" - something many people have complained about as their bums can become saggy due to the rapid weight loss. Despite all of the side effects, Bethany has no regrets on turning to Mounjaro and gushed: "But on the plus side I did lose six stone in nine months and I am such a better version of myself". It appears Bethany's symptoms are common, as fellow TikTokers took to the comments to share their experiences. One person commented: "It's the sulphur burps and the feeling of nausea which I cannot stand especially when I'm hardly eating anything to cause it. Still on the plus side weight is coming off well." Another wrote: "The bad breath. I can't handle it luckily I don't really have any other side affects other than the day after I jab but the bad breath I just can't." While one Mounjaro user detailed how quickly they lost their appetite and said: "1 full day on Mounjaro today, had to force breakfast in me, No appetite for coffee and that upsets me, Now gonna try force lunch/dinner in me so far no side efects apart from a little nausea."
