Eastman students perform for East House residents in recovery
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Eastman School of Music students and faculty performed at the East House's Alexander Commons Apartment Complex on Friday.
The event was held as part of the school's 2025 ROC City Concerts, featuring live performances in areas around Rochester to connect with underserved communities.
'We perform for audiences that don't have access to live music and can benefit from music's therapeutic effects,' said Associate Professor of Piano and Chamber Music, Elinor Freer.

Organizers said East House has been a resource to the community for nearly 60 years, providing financial, social, and emotional support in addition to housing to over 12,000 people.
The Alexander Commons Apartment Complex serves as housing for individuals recovering from mental health or substance abuse disorders.
The Assistant Professor of Voice from Eastman School of Music, Joshua Conyers, spoke to News 8 about the personal connection to performing for organizations like East House.
'These projects are super special to me because this is how I got my intro to music. Both of my parents dealt with drug addiction and abuse, and those things, and I grew up in a shelter system throughout all of those things, so music outreach helped me,' Conyers said. 'It saved me to not be a kid in the streets and gave me something to do, so to be able to reach out to people through music because we all connect through music, it's extremely important to me and my mission as a musician.'

‘Ultimate Icon' winner Jamie Fox on celebrating his second chance at life
Jamie Foxx struggled to hold back tears as he was honoured with the Ultimate Icon Award at the 2025 BET Awards. 'I cannot even begin to express the love that I feel from everybody out there,' the comedian and actor said as he accepted the award that acknowledges his remarkable contributions to the music industry. 'I have so much love to give, I told God, I said, 'man, just give me one more crack at this',' he continued, his eyes brimming with tears. 'I said, 'for whatever reason you put this on me, I promise I'm gonna do right'. And I'm gonna do right in front of you all because I know a lot of times when we get on, we forget about where we come from.' He went on to thank the black community for their unwavering support, expressing gratitude for how they've carried him and stood by him throughout his career. In addition, Jamie (57) thanked God for giving him a 'second chance' at life after his stroke in April 2023. He had previously shared how he experienced a severe headache before passing out. Unbeknown to him at the time, he was suffering bleeding in his brain. 'I was fighting for my life,' he recalled in his Netflix special, What Had Happened Was... 'It's a mystery, we still don't know exactly what happened to me [and] all I can tell you is that I appreciate every prayer because I needed every prayer.' 'If I could stay funny, I could stay alive,' he joked. Less than a year after his stroke, Jamie went back to work. In January 2024 he returned to the set of Back in Action, which he'd been filming with Cameron Diaz at the time of his stroke, and a month later he started plotting his comeback to stand-up comedy. 'I got some jokes and a story to tell,' he wrote on Instagram. The actor returned to co-host the seventh season of Beat Shazam with his daughter Corinne (31) in May last year, after Nick Cannon and Kelly Osbourne stepped in to host season 6 during his health scare. Last year, Jamie also had the honour of walking his daughter down the aisle at her October wedding to Joe Hooten. 'It was incredibly special, considering his health scare last year,' Corinne said. Even though his lead role in Ray in 2005 earned him a best actor Oscar, Jamie says he considers the Icon Award to be the most important accolade of his career. 'A lot of people think, like, the Oscars is the biggest thing, and we got to quit thinking like that,' he says. 'I say this all the time, thank you to black people and the black award, because this is what really counts.'

Morgan Wallen Beats The No. 2 Album In America Five Times Over
Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem is leading the Billboard 200 for a third straight week. The country project launched with one of the largest opening sums in recent memory — and certainly the biggest thus far in 2025 — and it has refused to budge ever since. The lengthy set hasn't faced any serious competition for the throne on Billboard's ranking of the most consumed albums in America, and it might not for a while, as it continues to rack up massive consumption figures each frame. I'm the Problem earns its third stay at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 thanks to 246,000 equivalent units shifted. That figure represents a 14% dip from the previous period, yet it still easily secures the top spot. No other title in the U.S. managed even 50,000 units this week, so Wallen safely holds onto his grip on the peak position. Coming in at No. 2 on the latest edition of the Billboard 200 is Happy Burstday by Seventeen. The K-pop boy band's latest effort opens with 48,500 equivalent units, between sales and streaming activity, according to Luminate. While I'm the Problem holds at No. 1 on both the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums charts, it does finally begin to descend on other tallies. This frame, it dips to No. 3 on the Top Album Sales ranking, landing behind Seventeen and Cyrus's new collections.
