Eight former Vols were selected in the 2024 MLB draft: Christian Moore (Angels), Blake Burke (Milwaukee), Billy Amick (Minnesota), Dylan Dreiling (Texas), Drew Beam (Kansas City), Kavares Tears (San Diego), A.J. Causey (Kansas City) and Aaron Combs (White Sox).
Jim Callis of MLB.com released a mock draft for the first round. Below are 2025 MLB draft projections and excerpts for Tennessee players from Callis.
Liam Doyle
Tennessee's Liam Doyle (12) throws the ball during a NCAA Baseball Tournament Knoxville Regional game between Tennessee and Miami Ohio on May 30, 2025.
Team: Toronto
Pick: No. 8
"Though the Blue Jays have been linked with shortstops such as (Billy) Carlson and (JoJo) Parker, they now appear to be pursuing pitching and should be able to land one of the best college arms. Doyle's stock has taken a slight hit after he surrendered 17 runs and 22 hits in his last three starts against SEC opponents (Arkansas twice, Texas)."
Gavin Kilen
Tennessee infielder Gavin Kilen (6) throws the ball to first base during a NCAA regional baseball game between the Tennessee Volunteers and Cincinnati Bearcats at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn., on May 31, 2025.
Team: Houston

Pick: No. 21
"The Astros have used their last four first-round choices on up-the-middle players with strong bats, and (Wehiwa) Aloy, (Jace) LaViolette and Kilen all fit that profile. If they choose a different route, (Xavier) Neyens is intriguing."
Andrew Fischer
Tennessee infielder Andrew Fischer (11) hits the ball during a NCAA regional baseball game between the Tennessee Volunteers and Cincinnati Bearcats at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn., on May 31, 2025.
Team: Cleveland
Pick: No. 27
"Barring someone surprising dropping in their lap, the Guardians may be mulling college bats such as Fischer and outfielders Ethan Conrad (Wake Forest), Devin Taylor (Indiana) and Cam Cannerella (Clemson). (Slater) De Brun fits their style too."

Tampa Bay Rays In Exclusive Talks To Sell Club To Group Led By Florida Home Builder

More Getty Images) The Tampa Bay Rays have announced that they are in advanced talks to sell to a group led by Patrick Zalupski, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Dream Finders Homes, a Florida-based homebuilder. The Rays released a statement saying, 'The team has recently commenced exclusive discussions with a group led by Zalupski, Bill Cosgrove, Ken Babby, and prominent Tampa Bay investors concerning a possible sale of the team.' Sportico reported that the deal has a team value of $1.7 billion. The most recent Forbes valuation ranks the Rays 29th out of 30 with a value of $1.25 billion. Forbes shows Zalupski's real-time net worth as $1.4 billion. Stu Sternberg purchased the Rays for $200 million ($340,354,685 inflation-adjusted) in 2004. A potential sale has been somewhat expected. The Rays have struggled to build a new ballpark to replace Tropicana Field, and that issue was compounded when Hurricane Milton shredded the roof off The Trop. The Rays have been playing at Steinbrenner Field, the Yankees' Spring Training home, while awaiting repairs to be made. While the St. Petersburg City Council voted 7-1 to approve $22.5 million for repairs, the Rays announced in March that they were backing out of a deal with the city and Pinellas County for a new $1.3 billion ballpark, citing increased costs. That raised the ire of MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and several owners, given that a new ballpark for the Rays is the last impediment to league expansion. The Athletic reported in March that Sternberg was being pressured to sell the club. Should the sale transpire, new ownership would face the new ballpark issue front and center. While the price tag was $1.3 billion, it's unclear whether changes to the economy, with the additions to tariffs and inflation, would increase the price tag, and whether Zalupski and his partners would be able to engage with the City of St. Petersburg to get a ballpark built near where Tropicana Field sits. Under Sternberg, the Rays had committed to contributing $700 million to the new ballpark.

MLB Sends Cal Raleigh Message After Red Sox Shutout

MLB Sends Cal Raleigh Message After Red Sox Shutout originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Seattle Mariners are heating up as the weather does the same. Seattle picked up its fourth win in five games Tuesday night, scoring eight runs behind a dominant start from Bryan Woo, who tossed seven scoreless innings. Advertisement The victory pushed the Mariners to 37-35 on the season. While that record keeps them second in the American League West, they're firmly in contention as the midpoint of the season approaches. The star of the night was slugger Cal Raleigh. The 28-year-old catcher had a monster game, collecting three hits, blasting his MLB-leading 27th home run and driving in six runs. After the game, MLB highlighted Raleigh's performance on social media. "Cal Raleigh hits his MLB-leading 27th HR and drives in 6 runs for the @Mariners." Raleigh's second-inning homer was a grand slam, scoring Julio Rodríguez, J.P. Crawford and Cole Young. It gave the Mariners a 5-0 lead and added to Red Sox starter Walker Buehler's tough night on the mound. Advertisement With that homer, Raleigh moved one ahead of Aaron Judge for the American League lead. In the National League, Shohei Ohtani sits at 25 home runs. Raleigh is now batting .266 on the year. In addition to his 27 homers, he's also hit 13 doubles and driven in 60 RBI. Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (29)© Stephen Brashear-Imagn Images It's been a strong first half for Raleigh, who was drafted by Seattle in 2018 and debuted in 2021, appearing in 47 games. He broke out in 2022 with 27 home runs in his first full season. Last year, he hit .220 with 34 homers and 100 RBI. Seattle finished Tuesday's win with nine hits. Young also chipped in with two of them from the bottom of the order. MLB Beat the Streak player falls just short of $5.6M in the most crushing way

MLB Beat the Streak player falls just short of $5.6M in the most crushing way I wasn't familiar with MLB's Beat the Streak game until today, and I really wish I were learning about it under better circumstances -- like, say, someone reaching a record-streak of 57 straight picks to win $5.6 million. Unfortunately, I bring to you news of someone who came so tantalizingly close to the money just to see their streak end in the most crushing way possible. Beat the Streak user "Iotank" was riding a 50-game streak into Monday when they picked Oakland Athletics rookie Jacob Wilson to get a hit against the Houston Astros. It made sense. Wilson was hitting .367 on the season and had a hit in all but one game this month. But it was all good 'til it wasn't. Wilson was 0-for-3 going into his final at-bat in the eighth, and that's when this happened. That's a bloop into shallow right field that would have been a hit if not for there already being a runner on first base who had to stay close to the bag in case the ball was caught. However, the ball wasn't caught, so once it landed safely on the ground, the runner was forced out at second, which correctly resulted in an out for Wilson. Streak over. That is an absolutely brutal way for this chase for millions to end.
