He never revealed why he carried out the horrific attack but it's claimed he was skint and desperately wanted the £770 he'd seen her count at her flat in Elgin, Moray.
His murder trial was told that after killing the mother-of-two he went on a spending spree with a wad of cash and splashed out hundreds of pounds on cocaine.
As he caged Grant for at least 24 years, Lord Scott told him: 'The attack was exceptionally savage and frenzied.
"The reasons for this brutal murder remain unknown, but appear almost certainly to have been related to money."
Keshia mum Amanda Gow admitted she was heartbroken.
She said: 'Life without Keshia will never be the same.
'She was my only daughter and my first born. Her two daughters will have to live their lives without their mum.
"I still cannot get my head around the fact that she is gone and that her life was taken in such a brutal way.'
Keshia was found dead at her ground floor pad hours after neighbours heard a row and someone shouting 'no, no, no'.
It was claimed that at first her bloodied body was missed because it was dismissed as a mop.
She was eventually found lying face down after being clubbed repeatedly with a weapon that's never been recovered.
Friends revealed she had been getting close to violent jailbird Grant who had been caged for eight years in England for arson to danger of life.
They said he had boasted to them about being sent away for 14 years for setting someone on fire.
Jurors at the High Court in Edinburgh were told Grant had tattooed Keshia daughter's name on her wrist. While her friends told how he'd cooked a meal for her as they spent more and more time together.
But shortly before she died Keshia sent a text saying she no longer trusted him and vowed to stay away from him.
Grant owed her £300 and claimed he'd gone to pay his bill on the night she was killed in November 2023 but didn't get an answer at the door.
Officers later found his bloody handprint on her bedroom wall as well as his passport lying in the flat.
Prosecutor Christopher Wilson KC said that at the time of the murder Grant had just over £12 in his bank account and couldn't pay his rent.
He told jurors: "My suggestion to you is the accused had run out of money. A drug habit and a lack of money is a bad combination."
Grant was seen on CCTV putting a bag in a bin after the killing and buying cigarettes and drinks at a Scotmid store with a large amount of cash in his wallet.
While he later turned up drunk at a woman's address and gave her £200 to go and buy cocaine.
No money was recovered when officers searched Ms Donaghy's home following the murder.
Grant denied the murder and claimed: "I never laid a finger on her."
He described the killing as "disgusting" and "horrible" and claimed he was devastated by Keshia death.
Jurors took three days to find him guilty of murder by a majority.
Detective Superintendent Lorna Ferguson said: 'My thoughts remain with Keshia family and friends as they continue to try to come to terms with what happened. I hope the verdict will bring them some form of justice.
'This was a complex inquiry and I would like to thank the local community for their patience and assistance throughout our investigation.
'Grant now faces the consequences of his actions.
'Violence such as this is never acceptable in our communities and we will work tirelessly to ensure those responsible are brought to justice."

Mystery artist baffles locals with crime scene artwork after Edinburgh benches removed

The crime scene artwork is understood to have appeared overnight at the Newkirkgate Shopping Centre at the bottom of Leith Walk. It shows a white outline of a bench with crime scene tape and cones set up around it. Evidence markers have also been displayed as part of the street art. It comes after the council removed two benches from the front of the shopping centre last week in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour amid reports of frequent disturbances in the area. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Shopkeepers in the area told the Evening News last week there are incidents almost every day and blame a group who they say regularly gather around two benches in front of the shops, consume alcohol and drugs, intimidate passers-by, and fight amongst each other. The anonymous artwork is understood have appeared outside the Newkirkgate Shopping Centre in Leith overnight | Submitted One Leith resident said: 'There are people walking past and thinking it's an actual crime scene because there's that much that happens at the Newkirkgate they think it's real. People were talking about it when I arrived at work this morning and seemed confused. But when they realise it's street art they seem to find it quite funny.' Hundreds of locals have also reacted to the artwork online. One said: 'Absolutely hilarious, I love the Leithers sense of humour' with another joking 'Do you think Banksy done it?' Another added: 'We need more of this kind of thing, gives us a giggle in the never-ending gloom.' The benches were removed by the council on Monday, August 11 as a 'temporary' measure made 'with the best interests of everyone in mind'. The city's transport and environment convener, Councillor Stephen Jenkinson, said: 'We took the decision to temporarily remove these benches following feedback from Police Scotland on antisocial behaviour in the area. We'll monitor the situation alongside Police Scotland and in the meantime the benches have been relocated to Taylor Gardens.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The benches outside the Newkirkgate Shopping Centre were removed on Monday, August 11 in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour in the area | Google Maps/NW Following the move residents and local businesses had mixed feelings as to whether removing the benches would make a positive different in the area. Some argued disturbances were likely to continue in the area whilst others reported there had been fewer incidents. One week on, local opinion appears to remain divided. One local said: 'It's actually got worse since the benches were removed.' They added: 'Before the group was always in one place but now they're scattered around the area and sit on the stairwell in the shopping centre so I wouldn't say much has changed. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Because there are three chemists in the area they will always stay here – they don't usually bother other people, it's usually them fighting amongst each other in the afternoon, but it isn't nice for other people in the area.' However another Edinburgh resident who works in the area said the removal of the benches is 'making a difference'. They said: 'It's quieter now because it's no longer a fixed meeting place. I suppose there's still been a bit of a crowd recently because it's been sunny, but when it's raining they go somewhere else. Before when it rained they would stay on the bench, but now they leave instead of sitting on the ground. But I still think it's sad that other people can't use the benches.' The City of Edinburgh Council has been approached for comment.

POLICE COLUMN: Inspector Emma Wright

Inspector Wright, from the Retail Crime Taskforce, spoke on the continued rise in retail crime incidents occurring across the country. As readers may be aware, Police Scotland launched the Retail Crime Taskforce earlier this year, following a £3m funding allocation from the Scottish Government for the year 2025/26. ‌ This is on the back of a continued rise in retail crime incidents occurring across the country and since the Taskforce's inception, we have been assisting local policing teams in a variety of ways as we look to reduce offences and bring those responsible to justice. ‌ As the Inspector for the Retail Crime Taskforce, I am grateful to Chief Inspector McArthur-Kerr for allowing me the use of her column to reflect on how the Taskforce is supporting ongoing efforts within West Lothian aimed at reducing crimes such as shoplifting and the intimidation, harassment, and assault of retail workers. ‌ Our analysis of retail crime throughout Lothians and Scottish Borders Division shows that reports of shoplifting are up by over 31% in comparison to the previous year, meaning more than 828 additional offences have been recorded. I am however pleased to report that offences against retail workers, have reduced in the area, with reported assaults down by almost 22% and harassment offences down by just over 25% this year. I want to make it clear – there is no such thing as a victimless crime. When these incidents occur, it creates a sense of fear within the staff working in these premises, particularly if they have had a negative interaction with a shoplifter while the crime is being committed. It also has a knock-on impact for the wider community, as those responsible for these offences then feel empowered to commit further crimes. The financial losses suffered by retailers, inevitability contribute to rising overheads which are reflected in increased prices for consumers and in some cases can cause retail businesses to face closure. The mission of the Retail Crime Taskforce is simple. Reduce retail crime, bring offenders to justice and work with the retail sector so they can help prevent such incidents occurring. Our analysis for West Lothian has also shown that many retail crimes are being carried out by individuals who do not live within the area but visit premises like the Centre in Livingston and steal from the high-value retailers within. ‌ There are certain premises which are being repeatedly targeted, and these sites need our support and assistance to identify where they can enhance their prevention measures and how they can invest in technologies, or sign-up to information-sharing schemes, that will help us more quickly and easily identify and apprehend offenders and improve detection rates. It is vitally important that local policing teams are seen to be visible and robust in their response retail crime and so, following engagement with West Lothian's senior leadership team, the Retail Crime Taskforce has provided additional funding for overtime and enhanced patrols to ensure West Lothian has proportionate numbers of resources in the right place at the right time to tackle retail crime properly. Funding has also been made available for diversionary projects for young people who have become involved in retail crime and local officers will be working with retail and third sector partners to deliver these initiatives aimed to help young people move away from criminality. ‌ It is our aim to utilise this approach to reduce the number of retail offences taking place within West Lothian, increase the number of arrests being made for crimes of this nature and divert young people away from retail crime. However, we cannot and will not become complacent and we will monitor the operational effectiveness of this approach. If further resource funding is required, or if other specialist support can be provided by the Taskforce, then this will be utilised whenever it is necessary.

Moment gang of yob teens raid shop for cans of booze before fleeing

Footage from the Day Today in Tranent seems to show a group of youths pocketing cans of Four Loko on Tuesday, August 19. The shock moment a gang of teenage yobs raid a shop in a Scots town for booze before making off has been caught on camera. ‌ A group reportedly stole cans of alcohol in a brazen incident which took place on Tuesday, August 19 at the Day Today on Bridge Street in Tranent, East Lothian. ‌ The shopkeeper claimed the gang entered the shop, one as young as eight or nine, and took several cans of Four Loko, an alcoholic beverage. ‌ CCTV footage from the convenience store seems to show the youths entering the shop and heading to the drinks cooler. They appear to select several cans of the alcoholic beverage and slip them inside their coats. Another clip seems to show them exiting the shop without paying. Police confirmed they are looking into a report of theft at the Bridge Street store. Shopkeepers told Edinburgh Live:"Today, three underage individuals entered our shop — two girls, around 13 to 14 years old, and one boy, around eight or nine years old. "While inside, they took three cans of Four Loko and handed them to the younger boy before running out of the store. "This is a serious matter, as it involves alcohol and underage children.
