Pesona Anggerik at Gardens by the Bay marks 60 years of Malaysia-Singapore ties
Presented in collaboration with the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore, Pesona Anggerik: Truly Asia Orchids features over 15 genera of orchids, along with authentic crafts and artefacts such as Kelantan's moon kite, Pahang textiles, Sabah's woven baskets and tribal headwear, and Sarawak's traditional Orang Ulu attire.
Gardens by the Bay chief executive officer Felix Loh said one of the highlights includes the lady's slipper orchid (Paphiopedilum Maudiae), a hybrid descended from species native to northern Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo, known for its distinctive slipper-shaped pouch.
"Treasured for its mottled foliage and striking green or burgundy blooms, it reflects the richness of Malaysia's botanical heritage.
"Equally precious are the traditional crafts and artefacts sourced by the Malaysian High Commission from across the country, which add cultural depth to this display,' he said at the launch on Friday.
High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore, Datuk Dr Azfar Mohamad Mustafar, said the event commemorates the strong and enduring relationship between the two neighbouring countries, which have stood side by side through times of change and challenge.
"Our cooperation extends from trade and infrastructure to security, tourism, education, and environmental sustainability. Our shared vision must be one of enduring friendship, mutual prosperity, and a brighter future for all our people,' he said.
The Pesona Anggerik: Truly Asia Orchids is located at the Mediterranean Garden in the Flower Dome section of the Gardens by the Bay and open from 9am to 9pm during the display period. -- Bernama

As of May this year, he said more than 13,000 Singaporeans had visited Sabah, and he hoped the number would continue to increase in line with the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026) campaign. 'Tourism Malaysia Singapore in collaboration with the Sabah Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STTOS), together with other agencies, are working hard to help promote Sabah,' he added. At the event, Joniston also launched the 'Stamp and Feel Sabah' campaign – a stamp rally programme introduced by STTOS to encourage Singaporean travellers to explore Sabah. Travellers can collect a stamp booklet from Tourism Malaysia's Singapore office, earn stamps by visiting listed attractions, and redeem rewards at the STTOS office while stocks last. Angkasa Ventures Into Eco Marine Tourism With RM2 Mln Cruise Project
GEORGE TOWN, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) has invested RM2 million to purchase two cruise boats as part of its new venture into eco marine tourism through sailing experiences in Penang waters. Angkasa president Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah said the initiative would bring a fresh dimension to the tourism industry, particularly through the involvement of the cooperative movement. He said the high-impact project received partial funding from the government through the Implementation Coordination Unit and the Penang Bumiputera Development Council, alongside contributions from participating cooperatives. 'For the project, a catamaran and a sailing boat will be used to take visitors around Penang waters. We expect a return on investment of between eight and 10 per cent within three years,' he told reporters at Forest Island here today. He was met after the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Angkasa and Forest Eco Sdn Bhd chairman, Alvin Poh, witnessed by Penang Agrotechnology, Food Security and Cooperative Development Committee chairman Fahmi Zainol. Forest Island is an 80,000 sq ft kelong (offshore platform) area equipped with facilities such as fishing spots, kayaking, a restaurant, and Malaysia's first sea-based pickleball court. Abdul Fattah said the collaboration, via Angkasa's associate company My Ancasa Travel Sdn Bhd, will see the development of eco marine cruise packages that highlight environmental sustainability. 'The project will also create opportunities for new activities such as water sports, guided tours, environmental education and eco-friendly marine programmes. Packages will be priced from RM99,' he said. He added that the collaboration is expected to generate economic spillover for coastal communities through support services such as tour boats, food and beverage, handicrafts and local tour guides.
