Kate Abdo stuns Thierry Henry and Micah Richards with shock exit live on air during CBS Sports' Champions League final coverage - before being replaced by new presenter

Daily Mail4 days ago

The was a shock substitution ahead of Saturday's UEFA Champions League final... and it came in the CBS Sports studio.
Kate Scott, the ever-slick host of the US broadcaster's Champions League coverage, briefly left Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and Jamie Carragher unattended as she exited the set live on air… only to be replaced by a surprise new face.
Midway through the build-up to Paris Saint-Germain vs Inter Milan in Munich, Scott — who is widely known by fans as Kate Abdo, having only changed her name last year after marrying former boxer Malik Scott — announced her sudden departure.
She told her panelists: 'I would love to stay and chat guys, but I have other friends waiting for me tonight…'
Her comments were met with groans from the panel, while Henry did his best to act shocked.
But they soon perked up when they saw her replacement as presenter: Anita Nneka Jones.

CBS comically cut to Peter Schmeichel acting as the fourth official to confirm the substitution
'Look who's coming!' Scott grinned, pointing as Jones approached.
Carragher let out a cheer and bellowed: 'Anita!' while Richards, asked if this was an official substitution.
Cue Peter Schmeichel, stepping up with a fourth official's board in hand to complete the comedy handover.
'Finally, some real quality in the studio,' Richards joked as Jones settled into her new seat.
CBS's Champions League coverage is known for its relaxed, banter-filled atmosphere – and Saturday's antics were no exception.
Scott didn't disappear for long, though.
After a commercial break, she reappeared on a different feed as part of Beckham & Friends Live, CBS's alternate stream featuring celebrity guests and sideline commentary.
Joining Scott and David Beckham in the VIP section was none other than Tom Cruise.
Previous episodes of Beckham's Champions League watchalongs had included Guy Ritchie, Stanley Tucci, and James Corden.

Ronaldo breaks another scoring record as Portugal reach Nations League final

GERMANY 1-2 PORTUGAL: Cristiano Ronaldo fired Roberto Martinez's side into the final of the Nations League with a comeback win over hosts Germany at the Allianz Arena Cristiano Ronaldo led Portugal to a come-from-behind win over Germany to book their place in Sunday's Nations League final. Florian Wirtz had put the hosts ahead with a brilliant header from Joshua Kimmich's delicious chip three minutes into the second-half. But a triple change from Roberto Martinez sparked Portugal into life. It was one of those subs who put the visitors on level terms, with Francisco Conceição driving forward before curling a fantastic effort past Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and into the bottom corner. ‌ Just five minutes after that, Ronaldo scored what would prove to be the winner. Nuno Mendes burst through the Germany defence before squaring the ball for his captain, who was left with an empty net to tap into. ‌ That goal also saw Ronaldo break the record for the most goals in a single Nations League A campaign, having notched seven strikes. That is one more than previous joint-holders Romelu Lukaku and Ferran Torres managed in the 2021/2022 campaign. It is though three less than Viktor Gyokeres managed as Sweden won promotion from Nations League C this year. It is the second Nations League final Portugal have reached. They won the first edition of the tournament back in 2019. Holders Spain and 2018 World Cup winners France will contest the other semi-final, which will be held in Stuttgart on Thursday night. It is the first time Portugal have beaten Germnay in any competition for 25 years. Their performance in the second-half was hailed by former Manchester City star Andy Hinchcliffe. He told Prime Video: "The genius of this goal is its simplicity. It's just pass and move football. Brilliant football to open Germany up. What a response to going behind from Portugal. He's not the attacking power he was but ultimately it looks as if Ronaldo's goal will be the decisive one. "The first half was a pretty even constant - Germany maybe shaded it. In the second half, yes Germany got the goal but it was an attacking flash. It's been a dominant performance from Portugal on and off the ball. "When Germany were 1-0 up, they adopted the right approach. They were looking for a second goal. But the substitutions from Roberto Martinez changed the complexion if the game. It's up to Germany to get a foothold in the game and do to Portugal what Portugal did to them."

Russell Martin appointed Rangers manager on 3 year contract as ex Southampton boss leads 49ers revolution

Martin is the man entrusted by the new Ibrox hierarchy to get Gers challenging again Russell Martin has been appointed as the new manager of Rangers on a three-year deal. Record Sport exclusively broke the news on Wednesday night that Martin will be officially paraded in the next 48 hours after convincing new chairman Andrew Cavenagh that he was the best man for the job. ‌ The Englishman has been without a club since getting the sack at Southampton last December, just six months after leading the club back to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs. ‌ It's believed the ex-Gers and Scotland defender had been in discussions with Leicester City but has knocked back the chance to replace Ruud van Nistlerooy by finalising a return to Govan instead. The appointment brings the near four-month-long search for a new manager in Govan to an end. The Light Blues had been without a permanent boss since sacking Philippe Clement at the end of February, with former club captain Barry Ferguson taking on the reins on an interim basis for the remainder of the campaign. But with 49ers Enterprises completing their takeover of Rangers last Friday, the hunt to get a new man in the dugout was ramped up. Sweeping changes in the Ibrox hierarchy have also seen Kevin Thelwell appointed as the club's new sporting director, with fellow Everton colleague Dan Purdy also joining Gers as technical director. ‌ Martin has already had a brief taste of what being at Ibrox is all about, having spent the second half of the 2017/18 season on loan with Gers during his playing career. The 39-year-old will be keen to get down to business straight away, with Rangers entering the second qualifying round of the Champions League on July 22/23. It's expected he'll be joined by long term assistant Matty Gill, while former Gers full-back Maurice Ross has also been earmarked for a key role in the coaching staff ‌ Martin's arrival comes following a major plot twist in talks with rival target Davide Ancelotti, who suddenly appeared to cool on the prospect of making the move from Madrid to Glasgow's south side. The son of managerial great Carlo appeared to be the frontrunner after holding a series of discussions with Thelwell and Gretar Steinsson, football adviser to the San Francisco 49ers. But Ancelotti's camp began to stall on a move to Ibrox at the start of this week, with the young coach being lined up by Como as a replacement for Cesc Fabregas - who could succeed Al-Hilal-bound Simone Inzaghi at Inter Milan.
