Adani considers entering airport ground handling bids after Celebi's exit
Billionaire Gautam Adani's conglomerate is considering bidding for ground handling services at two airports, as it looks to diversify into a new line of business after India shut out Turkish operator Celebi Hava Servisi AS.
Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. is 'evaluating' bids for the airports in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, Chief Executive Officer Arun Bansal said on the sidelines of an aviation industry event in New Delhi. A closely held unit of the flagship Adani Enterprises Ltd., it operates eight Indian airports including these two and an upcoming facility in Navi Mumbai.
The foray aligns with the ports-to-power conglomerate's strategy of branching into allied sectors that dovetail with its existing businesses. It also fills a gap left by Celebi's sudden exit last month after India's civil aviation security agency revoked its security clearance on grounds related to national security.
Celebi operated at nine airports in India, including gateway facilities in capital New Delhi and the commercial hub of Mumbai. Its operations were halted after Turkey voiced support for Pakistan during its recent armed conflict with India.
Adani, if it wins the bids for Mumbai and Ahmedabad, will be the third ground handler at these facilities. Indian regulations require that every major airport with annual passenger traffic of at least a million should have three ground handlers.
The country's aviation industry is seen booming in the coming years, with continuing investments from major airlines and infrastructure buildout by the government. India, which has over 140 operational airports, plans to more than double it to 350 by 2047.

The Indian government recognises that to maximise the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI), significant investments are needed in two key areas: core infrastructure and the development of advanced AI technologies, ChatGPT maker OpenAI's chief strategy officer, Jason Kwon, said on Thursday. Earlier, chief executive Sam Altman said that India has emerged as the second-largest market for OpenAI. We believe the latest AI frameworks and tools must be made widely accessible so that our startups, developers, and researchers can build faster, better, and at scale,' said minister for electronics and information technology Ashwini Vaishnaw. The AI model developer recently announced grants worth $150,000 for non-profit organisations in India tackling challenges in healthcare, education, agriculture, gender equity, and disability inclusion. The San Francisco, US-based company is expanding its ' AI for Impact Accelerator ' in India, under which 11 nonprofits will receive grants in the form of API credits and technical resources.

Mumbai's Masque Ranked 68th On This Global List Of Best Restaurants For 2025
Mumbai's Masque has won yet another culinary accolade. It has been ranked 68th globally by a prestigious organisation. The World's 50 Best Restaurants just announced its extended list of establishments ranked from 51 to 100. Masque is the only Indian restaurant to be featured on it. The list includes restaurants in 37 cities across six continents. Masque is one of nine entries from Asia. Last year, it was a new entry on the same list, and it occupied the 78th position overall. Apple Gives Tata India IPhone Repair Business As Partnership Expands: Report

Apple has brought in Tata Group to handle repairs for iPhones and MacBook devices in its fast-growing Indian market, signalling the Indian conglomerate's deepening role in the U.S. tech giant's supply chain, two people familiar with the matter said. As Apple looks beyond China for manufacturing, Tata has fast emerged as its key supplier and already assembles iPhones for local and foreign markets at three facilities in south India, with one of them also making some iPhone components. In its latest partnership expansion, Tata is taking over the mandate from an Indian unit of Taiwan's Wistron, ICT Service Management Solutions, and will carry out such after-sales repairs from its Karnataka iPhone assembly campus, both sources said. The market for repairs is only going to boom in India, the world's second-biggest smartphone market, as iPhone sales skyrocket. Counterpoint Research estimates around 11 million iPhones were sold in India last year, giving Apple a 7% market share, compared to just 1% in 2020. The latest contract award signals Apple's growing confidence on Tata as it hopes to win more business from the world's most valuable smartphone company. 'Tata's deepening partnership with Apple could also pave the groundwork for Apple directly selling refurbished devices in India, like how it does in the United States currently," said Prabhu Ram, a vice president at Cybermedia Research. The takeover from ICT by Tata is currently ongoing, both sources said, who declined to be named as they were not authorized to speak on the matter. Apple and Wistron did not respond to requests for comment, while a spokesperson for Tata declined to comment. While Apple's official service centres across India can do basic repairs, they would now ship phones and laptops to Tata's facility for more complex issues.
