NBA Twitter reacts to Sixers' Joel Embiid being ruled out for season
Amid a 20-38 season, this is the right decision. The Sixers need to get Embiid right for the future and hope that the big fella can be fully healthy at some point again in his career.
The next step for Embiid now is to prepare for the 2025-26 season. When healthy, the trio of Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey can still be one of the best in the league. It will just come down to whether the three of them can stay healthy and build chemistry for the long haul.
With the news now that Embiid is done for the season, fans on NBA Twitter gave their best reactions:
As unlikely as it is, it would be amazing to see Joel Embiid be great again. If not, he's still the best Sixers player I've ever seen and I feel lucky to have not only watched him but been able to publicly talk about it. Good luck big guy.

the sixers have managed the joel embiid situation horribly. he never should've came back last year for the playoffs after that meniscus surgery. he never should've played in the olympics, especially seeing how he was moving. he never should've played this season.

Joel Embiid (knee) is out for the season. Philadelphia 76ers have a top-6 protected 2025 first-round pick and have the 6th-worst record. Any pick seven or below goes to the Thunder. Sixers are one game ahead of the Nets and 2.5 games ahead of the Bulls in the tankathon standings. pic.twitter.com/8OnUCCmZGc

It really is a shame. Joel Embiid is one of the best talents in this league, but his body just betrays him year after year. This is the right move for them right now. Make sure he gets fully healthy and ready for next season. #Sixers

Rest up @JoelEmbiid One of the most talented players in NBA history.I still believe he could come back and be 100%. The NBA world needs Joel Embiid in it. This franchise needs a finals win with Embiid as our best player. His story is not over.

Get better big fella 🙏 Let's not forget how Joel Embiid dominated the NBA when healthy and helped USA bring home gold this past summer! pic.twitter.com/e3z39Tsykb

As a human, you just feel for Joel Embiid. Can debate some of his steps along the way, but you could tell this season took a toll on him -- mentally and physically. Right decision for him and the Sixers.

Sixers went from being overly cautious on Embiid earlier in his career to mismanaging his health the past 2 seasons and now Joel and the franchised are cooked. pic.twitter.com/VZ5z5gUvUF

Blazers reportedly sold for $4 billion - is that a bargain?
Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Vincent Goodwill and fantasy basketball analyst Dan Titus discuss the reported sale of the Portland franchise to Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon. Hear the full conversation on 'Good Word with Goodwill' and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript The Portland Trail Blazers were sold from the Paul G. Allen Trust to NHL owner, I believe, of the Carolina Hurricanes. Tom Dundon for $4 billion, y'all, $4 billion. And you're thinking like, man, that is a huge number for a team that needs a new arena, right? Even though I love the Moda Center and I love the location. I just love Portland as a whole. Like, Portland is one of those sort of undiscovered gems on the NBA beat. Like when I was a beat writer, Portland would be one of those places like, Man, I can't wait to get to Portland. But just the crazy numbers, like we don't, we don't know so much about him. He came from the venture capitalist world. He owns the, uh, like I said, the Carolina Hurricanes. He also owns So clearly he's getting on the ground floor of a lot of different things. Something tells me that if he's buying it for $4 billion, this might be worth a lot more. I think a lot of the moves that they made probably helped increase that valuation a little bit, like bringing back Damian Lillard, you know, if you're trying to sell tickets, that's the way to do it. You now have the Asian market with Young Hansen. This is a good, I mean, it's a good team. I think they're gonna be a lot better this year. So, you know, for $4 billion, considering that the Celtics went for $6, seems like probably pretty decent value. Um, Lakers went for $10, right? Right. So I mean, I think he kind of swooped in, Tom Dundon. If he's a venture capital guy, obviously he's good with finances and money. That could actually be a really good deal. Um, shout out to the, to the Paul Allen Trust who bought the franchise for $70 million and flipped it for $4 billion. That's a, that's a nice little W. Yeah, yeah. I think that's all the owners who have were old money, like the old, old money. Now it's a lot of new money. So many teams have changed hands since the 2011 collective bargaining agreement, which lets you know how big of an investment the NBA is when the VCs are in it and are taking over. Close

Predicting if Sixers can advance out of group play in upcoming NBA Cup
The Philadelphia 76ers are placed in Group B for the 2025-26 version of the NBA Cup and will be looking to advance out of group play to get to the knockout rounds and then the semifinals in Las Vegas. The Sixers have been unable to advance yet in the in-season tournament as the NBA Cup goes for its third straight season. The Sixers are placed in Group B alongside the Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, Orlando Magic, and Brooklyn Nets. With the NBA Cup schedule now released, now is the time to give an early prediction game-by-game and see if there's a path for Philadelphia to advance and get to Vegas for the semis and championship game. Here is a game-by-game NBA Cup schedule prediction for the Sixers: October 31: vs. Celtics This is an opportunity for Philadelphia to get off on the right foot. The Sixers will be at home, there is hope they will have their stars, and the Celtics will be a much different looking group when considering Jayson Tatum is out for the season and they had to make a lot of changes. Yes, the Cs will still have Jaylen Brown and Derrick White, and new addition Anfernee Simons will make a difference, but the Sixers should win this game if their guys are back. Prediction: Sixers win November 14: @ Pistons This one will be a real challenge. The Pistons are no longer a pushover as rising star Cade Cunningham leads them, with the return of Jaden Ivey from injury, and key veteran Tobias Harris. The Pistons will be tough and the Sixers will need to hope Joel Embiid will be healthy for this one to combat the size of Jalen Duren in the post for Detroit. This one will be a toss up as the Sixers deal with a road challenge: Prediction: Sixers win November 25: vs. Magic Even if the Sixers are healthy, this will be a challenging one for Philadelphia. The Magic feature a lot of size with Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Wendell Carter Jr., Jonathan Isaac, and players of that ilk. Orlando has a new scoring guard it can turn to in the form of Desmond Bane so the Magic will likely take this one. Prediction: Magic win November 28: @ Nets The Nets are another group that will be looking brand new. They lost D'Angelo Russell in free agency and acquired Michael Porter Jr. in a deal with the Denver Nuggets while also adding a slew of rookies led by lottery pick Egor Demin. The Sixers dropped a couple of games to the Nets in the 2024-25 season, but Philadelphia should pick up another win here and advance to the knockout rounds. As a reminder, they can advance either as the winner of the group or through a wild card spot.
