TNT Sports forced to apologise after Reece James swears about 16-year-old starlet Reggie Walsh as youngster makes history in Blues' Conference League win
The 16-year-old Walsh became the Blues' youngest-ever starter in Europe when he was named in the side that faced Djurgarden in the Europa Conference League semi-final on Thursday night.
Enzo Maresca 's side cruised to a 1-0 win on the night and 5-1 aggregate victory that sealed their place in the final later this month, where they will face LaLiga side Real Betis. But all the conversation post match was focussed on the nifty No 10, who was afforded the full 90 minutes of the contest.
Afterwards, Blues skipper James waxed lyrical about the teenager's display. His praise so effusive that he appeared to forget he was live TV and blurted out an expletive when remarking on youngsters ability to replicate his impressive performances in training in a real game.
'I've seen him in training lots, but training and games are different,' he said. 'This is the first time I've seen him play in a game and I was like f****** h***, I didn't realise how good he actually was.
'Training is training and you can't judge too much what you see in training.'
Defender Josh Acheampong, only 19-years-old himself, also reserved special praise for Chelsea's history maker, adding: 'It's the first time I've played with Reggie as well. Even though I'm young he's a lot younger than me. I just said to him be confident, whatever you do in the 18s, 21s, just try and replicate here.'
With Chelsea overmatching almost all of the sides they have faced in the Conference League, the competition has afford Maresca the chance to hand opportunities to academy starlets.
Walsh got his first taste of action in last week's first leg and nearly scored after coming on as full-time approached. Following the game, Maresca said: 'I felt excited to give him the chance. He's suited to our style. He's the eighth debut from the academy.
'He is perfect for our system, but of course he's also young, so we need to protect him. I told him to enjoy the experience before he came on. It was the perfect night – an important semi-final and a good result.'
On Thursday, the Blues sealed their place in the final with a 1-0 win courtesy of a first-half goal from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The midfielder cut in on to his left foot and found the bottom corner. With that, the Blues led by four goals on aggregate. Dewsbury-Hall was signed from Leicester for £30million.
He has played a minor role in the Premier League, but has managed more minutes than anyone in this competition and will be worthy of that medal if Chelsea can see it through.
Chelsea will face their toughest test in the Estadio Municipal de Breslavia in Warsaw on May 28. LaLiga side Betis secured their place in the clash after a nail-biting 4-3 aggregate win over Fiorentina.

'All to play for' as Gray guards against complacency
David Gray insists "nothing has been achieved" by his Hibs side in Conference League qualifying despite their 2-0 first-leg lead over Partizan Belgrade. The Hibs boss admits that while his team are in a "brilliant position" going into Thursday night's return at Easter Road - live on BBC Scotland - they cannot allow complacency to creep Boyle's double secured a memorable victory in Belgrade last week against 10-man Partizan but Gray isn't taking the lead for granted as Hibs look to progress to the play-off round."This is half-time in the tie," he said. "Nothing's been achieved yet other than we're in a brilliant position. It's 0-0 in the game and you go into every single game trying to win it and we'll be no different going in tomorrow night with that mindset. "If you go in and try and protect and protect and protect then you'll leave yourselves exposed. We'll definitely be approaching the game as if it's 0-0, we've got it all to play for and we know the threat and the danger that Partizan possess."Gray also insists the fans have a big part to play on Thursday night and is not taking their support for granted. "It's a sellout again at Easter Road," he added. "European night, under the lights, we know how good the atmosphere was in the Midtjylland game and I expect it to be the same again. "We need the fans right behind us which they will be. It's an incredible effort from the fans again and everything's geared up for a fantastic night."

Man City hold out for £67m as Spurs step up Savinho chase
Manchester City are holding out for a fee of about £67million for the Brazil winger Savinho, who is of interest to Tottenham Hotspur. After having an initial bid of about £42million rejected, Tottenham are set to return to the table with an improved offer, although it remains to be seen whether Spurs will meet City's asking price. The new Tottenham head coach, Thomas Frank, wants the 21-year-old to boost his attacking options after the departure of Son Heung-min to Los Angeles FC for £20million. Tottenham need attacking midfielders after James Maddison suffered a serious knee, which will rule him out for most of the season, and a proposed deal to sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest collapsed. Savinho is keen to speak to Spurs but remains in Guardiola's first-team plans JASON CAIRNDUFF/TPX/REUTERS Savinho, who cost City £30.8million when they signed him from their sister club Troyes last summer, is interested in talking to Spurs but his employers are not forcing him out of the club. Pep Guardiola, the City manager, wants Savinho to stay but, as he has stated on several occasions, if any squad member wishes to leave, they can do so, provided the price is right. Savinho, who is contracted until 2029, scored three goals and claimed 11 assists in 48 appearances last season. A hardworking player, he started City's biggest games at the Club World Cup — against Juventus and Al-Hilal — and is viewed at present as the club's first-choice right winger, although he faces competition from Oscar Bobb, Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden, among others. Tottenham renew interest in Eberechi Eze: Fellow Brazil winger Rodrygo has long been linked with a move to City, but it remains to be seen whether they think they would be able to persuade him to leave Real Madrid, even though he appears to have lost his place in the side after Xabi Alonso replaced Carlo Ancelotti as head coach. City's director of football, Hugo Viana, has been busy trying to move on some of the fringe players in Guardiola's squad. Jack Grealish has been loaned to Everton, while James McAtee is close to joining Forest. A fee in the region of £30million is being discussed for the 22-year-old. The reserve goalkeeper Stefan Ortega is up for sale after the £27million purchase of James Trafford. City will make a move for Paris Saint-Germain's unwanted goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma only if last season's No1, Ederson, pushes to leave. Galatasaray have spoken to Ederson but have not made an official approach to City regarding the Brazil player, who said in June that he would see out the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.
