One to watch: Twat Union
UTIs, dating red flags and wardrobe malfunctions aren't just cautionary tales but the inspiration for new performance art meets punk-rock six-piece Twat Union. Following in the feminist footsteps of riot grrrl forebears such as Bikini Kill, the all-female British band have built up a grassroots fanbase around London thanks to their blistering live shows skewering the letdowns and joys of life as women.
With members from the Isle of Wight, Wales and London, Twat Union first met in a house-share in south London at the tail end of lockdown. They were united by their need to find a living space that could also accommodate their instruments, so the house soon became a natural jam space where they began playing their tongue-in-cheek tunes live.
Newly signed to indie punk label Alcopop! Records, the group are preparing to release their debut EP, Don't Look It in the Eye. 'It's the culmination of two years of theatrical live shows, and we're excited for people to laugh and rage at our shitty, patriarchal and sometimes biological experiences from the comfort of their own homes,' says vocalist Kate Mac. Playing with joyous rage through five songs about sexism, masturbation and post-sex burning sensations, the record is poised to take Twat Union's brand of anthemic confrontation across the country.
Don't Look It in the Eye is out on 4 April. Twat Union play the Exchange, Bristol, on 28 March and tour until 27 April

"They [Harry and Meghan] are aware of everything going on in England, but they're being left out of the details - there's clearly no trust," a source speaking to People magazine remarked. Finding it challenging to be fully informed about his father, Prince Harry reportedly struggles to receive precise updates regarding King Charles. Last month, the duke expressed to the BBC his concern over the lack of communication with his father and his uncertainty about the time the King may have left. Moreover, he voiced a hope for mending ties with his relatives, saying: "Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things, but there's no point in continuing to fight anymore." Prince Harry expressed his desire for reconciliation, stating: "I would love reconciliation with my family. There's no point continuing to fight any more, life is precious." However, Sally Bedell Smith, a royal biographer, suggested that trust remains a significant hurdle. In an interview with People magazine, she revealed: "The King and William don't trust Harry and Meghan with any kind of confidential conversation." Valentine Low, another author, noted that although Harry's BBC interview wasn't intended as a direct attack on the Royal Family, "it would be seen as one," making it even more challenging for Charles to extend an olive branch. Elsewhere, the Duke of Sussex was reportedly left furious after the King and British officials caused "repeated delays" in issuing his children's passports, leading to a name change. Garrett will play Heidi Schiller in Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman's musical about a group of former showgirls, at the Grand Opera House in Belfast in the autumn. The British soprano said on ITV's This Morning earlier this month that she had cancer surgery after being diagnosed with thymoma, a rare cancer of the thymus gland, which could have affected her singing. Since the surgery to remove the tumour, she has made a successful recovery and will now be joining the Follies cast. Garrett said: "I'm so excited to be coming back to Belfast and especially to be making my debut with Northern Ireland Opera at the age of 70. "Sondheim's Follies is a masterpiece and I'm delighted to have been given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform the iconic role of Heidi Schiller." Article continues below The production marks the singer's 45th anniversary in the industry and her debut with the Northern Ireland Opera, where she will play the "opera diva" of the Weismann's Follies. Set in 1971, the musical follows the group as they return to their former Broadway stage at Weisman Theatre, for a final reunion show before its scheduled demolition. Jazz singer Jacqueline Dankworth, who was in the original cast of the West End debut for Sondheim's Into The Woods in 1990, will join the cast as Carlotta Campion. West End stars Anna-Jane Casey and Annette McLaughlin will play former room mates Sally Plummer and Phyllis Stone. The production is directed by Cameron Menzies, with Greg Arrowsmith as the musical director. The musical scored seven Tony awards at the 1972 ceremony and is best known for its songs Broadway Baby, I'm Still Here and Losing My Mind. For a brief moment during the closing moments of the eighth episode, there was a strange blink and you'll miss it moment where a woman holding a red case flashed up on screen. The cameo – if you want to call it that – seems rather inexplicable, and it's not commented on by the narration, which has led some online to label it an editing error. On X, @Nc2012_700x wrote that, 'While watching Clarkson's Farm on Amazon Prime Video, a still image of a woman flashed on screen for a split second. Likely an editing mistake. Anyone else notice this?' They weren't the only ones to spot the 'mistake'.@gibsey007 tagged Jeremy in a tweet and asked, 'Why was a single frame added to your end message. Who is she?' Meanwhile, on Reddit, WasKnown asked other Clarkson's farm fans 'was symbolic of anything or an editing mistake? So confused by that.' The woman in question is Rachel Reeves, the current Chancellor of the Exchequer, who upset farmers with her recent budget. Basically, the UK government has reintroduced a 20% inheritance tax on farms valued at more than £1million. This means the children and heirs of some farmers will no longer inherit land tax-free as they once did. Needless to say, the move has upset a number of farmers across the UK who claim that while their assets may be valuable, they are cash poor. They argue then this new law will force those inheriting farms to sell their land if they want to pay the tax bill. Supporters on the other hand, argue that the current law – which means farmers don't pay inheritance tax – is being abused by the wealthy to avoid taxes. Furthermore, they claim that only a small percentage of UK farmers will be affected Still, the British farming community was so incensed by the proposal that there were widespread protests in London, with Jeremy Clarkson becoming something of a spokesperson for the movement. Speaking to Sky News during one protest, Clarkson demanded that the government 'back down' on the policy.
