The 10-sport Games programme will based at four venues within an eight-mile corridor of the city and be held across 10 days from 23 July to 2 August.While the overall number of sports has halved from 20 in Birmingham in 2022 to combat rising hosting costs and time demands, the schedule remains intense.A total of 26 cycling golds will be fought for at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, with eight of those in para-track cycling. That is double the amount on offer three years ago.And 56 will be on offer at Tollcross International Swimming Centre, with the men's 800m and women's 1500m freestyle races included for the first time.Omitting the 1500m - in which Scotland's Josh Kerr and Laura Muir are Olympic medallists - is a surprise move.It has been replaced by an event last run in 1966.Organisers say the Commonwealth Mile - the equivalent of approximately 1600m - is a tribute to "The Miracle Mile" run at the 1954 staging in Vancouver.On that occasion, England's Roger Bannister and Australian John Landy competed two months after the former became the first athlete to run a sub-four minute mile."The mile is the quintessential Commonwealth athletics event whose return I very much welcome," said World Athletics President Sebastian Coe, who suggested the event to Glasgow organisers."From 1930 through to 1966, the mile was the blue riband event of each Games and the magic of the mile continues to resonate."A ticket to watch its Commonwealth final will be one of the must have seats in Glasgow next year."

A Barry Duncan free-kick deflected into the net in 52 minutes to get Rovers on level terms, before McColl broke on the counter attack at speed and unleashed a venomous drive to grab all three points for the hosts. And Clark said McColl reminded him of a certain Olympic champion sprinter. He said: 'It was a great performance from our guys. It took us a bit of time in the first half to get into the game, but that happens to us a lot because we are such a young squad. 'We lost a goal in the first half, but we managed to hang in and had a couple of half decent chances to equalise, just never quite got there. 'In the second half we scored straight from a free-kick from Barry Duncan, which took a bit of a deflection that deceived the goalkeeper. 'After that we got the second goal really quickly. It was a brilliant goal on the counter attack from a corner, thanks to Devan McColl. 'I thought it was Usain Bolt going down the right-hand side when he broke away. 'He really should have squared it into the box from the position he was in, but he elected to shoot and, thankfully, it ended up in the back of the net. 'After that we were comfortable and I feel we should have picked them off for a third goal, but we'll take the win. I was really pleased with the performance.' It was Rovers' second win in four games and saw them bounce back from a tough 4-0 defeat at Tranent the previous week. Clark, whose side are up to seventh in the table, added: 'Tranent are a really good team and we did some good things against them last week. We eliminated a lot of the errors this week and managed to score a couple of goals, that's what football is about. 'There was a brilliant attitude from our young lads and we had great backing from our fans as well, so it was a happy place at full-time.' Rovers now have a double-header coming up over the next week, with a home clash against Thorniewood in the first round of the South Challenge Cup this Saturday, followed by the visit of Broxburn Athletic on league business on Tuesday night.

Two Olympic ski jumping medallists are facing a potential ban after being charged with cheating in a controversial case that could affect their participation at next year's Milan Cortina Games. Olympic champion Marius Lindvik and Johann Andre Forfang, bronze medallist at the 2018 Games in Pyeongchang, had their ski suits tampered with and were caught during the World Championships in Norway in March. An investigation by the International Ski Federation, the sport's worldwide governing body, alleges the Norwegian athletes' teams had broken the rules by reinforcing the thread in their jumpsuits in an attempt to create more lift in the air. Lindvik and Forfang had been disqualified from the men's large hill competition following an equipment inspection at the World Ski Championships in Trondheim. Jan-Erik Aalbu, the Norwegian ski federation's general manager, admitted they had 'tried to cheat the system' in a scandal which sent shockwaves through the country, which prides itself on its success in winter sports. Head coach Magnus Brevik, assistant coach Thomas Lobben and service staff member Adrian Livelten have also been charged. The two athletes' ski suits had allegedly been tampered with in a scandal that has sent shockwaves through sport in Norway Lindvik and Forfang were both provisionally suspended pending the investigation, which has now concluded. Their exact punishments are not yet known but the charges come with less than six months until the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo. Aalbu now claims the two athletes were unaware of the tampering. 'We have listened to our athletes and believe them when they say they did not know about the manipulation of the ski suits,' Aalbu said.
