Aldar Education will bring the first regional campus of the internationally renowned King's College School Wimbledon to Abu Dhabi's Fahid Island.
The new King's College School Wimbledon Abu Dhabi campus, a K12 super-premium school, will be spread over an expansive area of 50,000 sqm and accommodate up to 2,220 students.
Subject to ADEK and regulatory approvals, the school will welcome its first batch of students in September 2028.
Aldar expands education portfolio
King's College School Wimbledon is recognised as one of the UK's most prestigious independent institutions and is known for its rich heritage and exceptional academic standards. It adopts a holistic approach to education, ensuring that students receive comprehensive academic preparation and character development, making them sought-after candidates for leading global universities.
Talal Al Dhiyebi, Group Chief Executive Officer at Aldar, commented: 'We are proud to announce the first King's College School Wimbledon to Abu Dhabi, a milestone that reflects Aldar's fast-growing education portfolio and commitment to educational excellence.
'With King's longstanding legacy of academic distinction and its proven track record of preparing students for the world's top universities, this new school at the heart of Fahid Island will further strengthen Abu Dhabi's position as a premier destination for world-class education and a global centre for talent development.'
King's College School Wimbledon has been actively looking at international investors for global growth. It opened its first two international sister schools in Wuxi and Hangzhou, China, in 2018, followed by one in Bangkok, Thailand, in August 2020. It also has campuses in Shenzhen and Phnom Penh.
Last year in December, The Sunday Times ranked King's in the top three schools in the UK in its prestigious Parent Power Guide 2025, as well as named it the Independent International Baccalaureate School of the Year.
Karl Gross, Director of International Schools, King's College School, Wimbledon, added: 'We are delighted to partner with Aldar Education to open a world-leading school in Abu Dhabi. Bringing an authentic King's College School Wimbledon education to the region marks an exciting milestone in our ambition to build a global family of world-class international schools, where we offer our pupils an outstanding education in mind, spirit and heart.
'Building on the success of our school in Wimbledon and our existing overseas campuses, this new partnership offers a unique and inspiring opportunity for students in Abu Dhabi to experience the transformational impact of a King's education, preparing them to thrive in the world beyond school.'
Strategically located within Fahid Island 's master-planned community, the school will be designed to blend cutting-edge educational resources, sports facilities, and a focus on student well-being, complementing the Island's broader vision to foster balanced lifestyles within a vibrant natural setting.
Sahar Cooper, Chief Executive Officer at Aldar Education, said: 'King's College School Wimbledon is globally recognised for its ability to nurture well-rounded individuals equipped with the confidence, compassion and critical thinking skills to thrive.
'The school's holistic approach to education, anchored in strong values, rich co-curricular programmes, and personalised pastoral care, will add a new dimension to Aldar Education's offering and further support Abu Dhabi's vision to become a regional hub for excellence in education.'
The establishment of King's College School on Fahid Island marks the initial phase of Aldar's comprehensive educational strategy for the island, designed to address growing demand for premium educational offerings.
Future phases will introduce additional educational institutions as part of its masterplan. Aldar Education's network, with schools on Yas Island, Khalifa City, and Saadiyat Island, will expand capacity by offering over 4,000 new student places by the 2028-2029 academic year.

Vodafone Qatar and Nokia utilise advanced 5G services to modernise network
Qatar - Vodafone Qatar's latest partnership with Nokia marks a significant step towards deploying emerging technologies as a part of its commitment to driving digital transformation in the country, according to chief technology officer, Ramy Boctor. 'Vodafone Qatar and Nokia have developed a plan for a nationwide network infrastructure modernisation to enhance our network capabilities and ultimately lead to the deployment of advanced 5G services in Qatar. 'What this means for business and consumers is that Vodafone Qatar will be able to deliver faster, more efficient, and more secure telecommunications services,' Boctor told Gulf Times in an exclusive interview. Only recently, Vodafone Qatar announced an agreement with Nokia to lead a nationwide network modernisation that will enable it to deliver faster, more secure, and highly adaptable 5G services to consumers and businesses across Qatar, while preparing for next-generation innovations. Citing the rapid evolution of the digitalisation and telecommunications market, Boctor noted that the company is anticipating 'immense growth in the coming years,' noting that Qatar's ICT sector is projected to grow at an annual rate of '8.5%' through 2030. 'With this in mind, flexibility is paramount, and Vodafone Qatar has made it a primary goal of its nationwide infrastructure modernisation to develop highly adaptable 5G services for consumers and businesses across Qatar, while also preparing for next-generation innovations. Our vision is to both provide the best services possible while simultaneously allowing room for upcoming developments and innovations in 5G connectivity,' he explained. Boctor further pointed out that another primary focus of this transformation is boosting Vodafone's broadband network capabilities. With increasing demand for high-speed, reliable internet across homes and enterprises, he said Vodafone Qatar's infrastructure upgrades will enable it to deliver 'fast broadband with higher capacity and coverage than ever before.' He said, 'Crucially, this modernisation effort will also introduce automation and orchestration across the network, leveraging advanced AI capabilities. These technologies will not only enhance operational effectiveness and significantly reduce time to market, but also open the door for broader innovation beyond traditional telecom services. 'From smart cities and IoT ecosystems to enterprise-level solutions, Vodafone Qatar's network will serve as a dynamic platform for innovation, enabling the country's digital future.' Speaking to Gulf Times earlier, Raghav Sahgal, president of Cloud and Network Services at Nokia, spoke about how the company's digital operations software could play a vital role in Vodafone Qatar's journey towards fully autonomous networks and how AI-driven assurance and 5G slicing automation improve service delivery. 5G provides the ability to deliver much higher performance and deterministic performance, noted Sahgal, adding that 'if you want a certain amount of bandwidth guaranteed without fluctuation, you can deliver a slice of a network to that enterprise or the consumer.' On AI-driven network assurance, Sahgal explained that 'assurance is about making sure that if there are faults in the network, you're able to redirect traffic or whatever it is to ensure that services continue for customers.' 'Digital operations play a strong role in making sure that what the customer wants is created for them and delivered based on their requirements, rather than just providing predefined services,' said Sahgal, citing 5G slicing automation. © Gulf Times Newspaper 2022 Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. KPC approves new emergency leave rules
KUWAIT CITY: In light of the tremendous efforts exerted by nationals working in the oil sector, their dedication to work and the desire of the oil leadership to provide more comfort that motivates them to join the sector, which has become an attractive environment for Kuwaiti talent of both genders; Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) Sheikh Nawaf Al-Saud Al-Sabah issued a decision approving the amendment of the regulations for granting emergency leave, under the powers stipulated in the administrative regulations in force at the corporation, with the addition of some amendments, say reliable sources. Sources disclosed that the most important amendment states 'an employee or worker may be granted emergency leave not exceeding four days during the calendar year in the presence of emergency circumstances specific to him without submitting documents, provided that he obtains the approval of his direct supervisor before taking this leave. The leave shall be used separately, not interconnected, and shall not be linked to any other leave stipulated in the approved regulations.' Sources informed the newspaper that the aforementioned emergency leave shall be deducted from the 10 days allocated for emergency leave during the calendar year. The conditions also include standardizing the calculation of emergency leave, so that it shall be taken during the calendar year rather than the contractual year. The regulations in force regarding emergency leave related to the illness of a family member of the employee or worker, their hospitalization or a medical appointment shall be maintained. The resolution also requires the relevant authorities to take the necessary measures to implement this amendment. This resolution shall take effect at the beginning of July, and all conflicting resolutions shall be repealed, sources added. It is worth mentioning that the approval of the CEO of KPC to amend the emergency leave system is based on the recommendations issued by the Labor Relations Committee in its meeting no. 3/2025 held on April 8, 2025 regarding approval to amend the emergency leave system for workers in the oil sector, by allowing the employee or worker to go on emergency leave not exceeding four non-consecutive days during the calendar year, deducted from the 10 days approved for emergency leave with the approval of the direct supervisor before enjoying the leave. Sources also revealed that KPC will conduct administrative specialization tests for those who meet the conditions on June 13; indicating that the corporation -- through the job advertisements that it announces from time to time -- aims to attract competent manpower with the required specializations to ensure continuous leadership in the oil sector. Sources said there are more advantages for all employees in the companies affiliated with the corporation, especially since Sheikh Nawaf Al-Saud Al-Sabah always recommends to all leaders of the companies affiliated with the corporation the necessity of motivating the nationals working in the oil sector, while listening to all their demands in accordance with the regulations, especially since the approach of KPC is to implement a strategy to enhance reliance on national workforce and provide all the privileges that guarantee job security for nationals. Schengen Visa: UAE travellers' guide to hidden summer 2025 destinations beyond Europe
As the summer of 2025 approaches, many UAE residents are seeking budget-friendly travel options beyond the usual European destinations. While the Schengen visa is well-known for granting access to 29 European countries, fewer realise it can also serve as a gateway to lesser-known, budget-friendly destinations outside the Schengen zone. Popular Schengen destinations can be expensive and crowded during the summer months. Fortunately, your Schengen visa can unlock a range of equally stunning and more affordable places—both within Europe's fringes and beyond—that are often overlooked but perfect for your summer getaway. When UAE residents secure a Schengen visa, their minds often go straight to iconic cities like Paris, Rome, or Amsterdam. However, savvy travellers are now using this visa to venture to alternative destinations that welcome visitors holding a valid multiple-entry visa. This little-known benefit can save money, reduce crowds, and create unique travel experiences. Rules and regulations 1. Multiple-entry visa required To travel to many of these alternative destinations, you must have a multiple-entry Schengen visa. Single-entry visas expire as soon as you leave the Schengen Area, preventing re-entry or access to non-Schengen countries that recognise the visa. 2. Prior use of the visa inside Schengen Some countries require that you have already entered at least one Schengen country using your visa before they allow entry. This means simply holding the visa isn't enough—you must have activated it at least once in Europe. 3. Visa validity throughout your stay Your Schengen visa must remain valid for the entire duration of your visit outside the Schengen Area. Check carefully to avoid overstaying or having your visa expire while abroad. 4. Compliance with additional entry requirements Even with a valid Schengen visa, certain countries may ask for: Proof of sufficient funds Confirmed accommodation Return or onward tickets Always check the embassy or consulate websites before travelling for the latest regulations. 5. Nationality-specific conditions Visa exemptions or simplified procedures linked to Schengen visas often depend on your nationality. Confirm the specific rules for your passport to avoid surprises at immigration. Destinations by visa rule grouping Destinations allowing entry with a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa, often requiring prior entry into the Schengen Area: Albania: Up to 90 days, provided the visa has been used once in Schengen. Bosnia and Herzegovina: Stay up to 90 days within 180 days. Montenegro: Entry for up to 30 days or visa validity length if less than 30 days. Serbia: Visa-free stay up to 90 days within 180 days. North Macedonia: Visa must be valid for at least five days after exit; stay up to 15 days per visit, max 90 days in 180 days. Kosovo: Up to 15 days with a valid multiple-entry visa. Destinations that accept travellers holding a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa without necessarily requiring prior use: Cyprus: Up to 90 days within 180 days, even though not part of Schengen yet. Mexico: Up to 180 days, provided you've used the Schengen visa at least once. Colombia: Visa exemption for select nationals holding a Schengen visa valid for six months or more. Sao Tome and Principe: Often waives the tourist visa for Schengen visa holders. Destinations with simplified visa procedures or visa-on-arrival options linked to holding a valid Schengen visa: Turkey: Eligible for an electronic visa (e-visa) for stays up to one month; not visa-free but easier process. Antigua and Barbuda: Possible visa on arrival for Schengen visa holders. Dominican Republic: Eligible for a tourist card upon arrival when holding a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa. Microstates functioning as part of the Schengen Area (no separate visa required if you have entry to the neighbouring Schengen country): Andorra Monaco San Marino Vatican City Schengen visa cost and application fees for UAE residents Here's what it costs to apply for a Schengen visa from the UAE: Visa application fee: Approximately AED 380 ($103). (This includes the standard visa fee of AED 320 plus a service fee of around AED 60 charged by the visa application centre.) Reduced fee for children aged 6 to 12: Around AED 190 ($52). Children under 6 years: No visa fee required. Applications typically take about 15 calendar days to process, so applying early is recommended. Final reminders for UAE travellers: Always check the latest rules from official embassy sources before travelling. Make sure your multiple-entry Schengen visa is valid and that you comply with all entry requirements. Plan your itinerary carefully to maximise the benefits of your visa and discover these hidden gems beyond the usual European tourist trail.
