Queen graces GT World Challenge Asia to support Johor Princes
According to a post on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar's official Facebook page, Her Majesty's presence was to support her sons, Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim.
In the first race in Fuji, Tunku Abu Bakar Al-Haj and his teammate Jordan Love (car #66) achieved their first podium finish of the season by securing third place.
Meanwhile, Tunku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj (car #99) continued to display consistent driving with teammate Ben Green, finishing in eighth place.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who followed the race from the capital, expressed gratitude over his youngest son's podium finish.
"I am grateful that Tunku Putera achieved a good result this time and hope that he and his brother (Tunku Panglima) will continue to give strong competition in tomorrow's second race," the post read.
Also in attendance at today's race were Raja DiHilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah, as well as Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim and her husband, Datuk Dennis Muhammad Abdullah.
Both Johor Motorsports Racing (JMR) Corvette Z06 GT3.R cars will start tomorrow's second race from the front row after claiming first (car #99) and second (car #66) positions in this morning's qualifying round.

Luxury cars seized in RTD crackdown over expired road tax
SHAH ALAM: Four motorists, including a woman from China, were forced to return home using e-hailing services after their luxury vehicles were seized by the Road Transport Department (RTD) last night. The vehicles were impounded after they were found to have been driven with expired road tax during a five-hour special operation, dubbed "Ops Pengarah," conducted by the Selangor RTD. The operation started at 8.30pm at the Kota Kemuning Toll Plaza along the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas). The seizures began when personnel stopped a Mercedes-Benz S400 driven by a woman from China. Upon inspection, they found she was driving a vehicle without a valid road tax or insurance for over a year. The 41-year-old woman, who is married to a Malaysian, was also driving without a valid driver's licence. Personnel then detected another case involving a 25-year-old Malaysian man who explained that the Toyota Vellfire MPV he was driving had been purchased just three months ago. He said the luxury MPV was bought by his brother through a "sambung bayar" (loan takeover) arrangement with the original owner. The man said he had informed the original owner to renew the road tax, but the owner claimed he could not do so because of outstanding summonses. Both motorists were forced to take e-hailing rides home as RTD officers seized their vehicles. Meanwhile, RTD Selangor director Azrin Borhan revealed that from January to July this year, a total of 16,735 offences were recorded involving individuals driving without a valid licence. "Of that number, heavy vehicle drivers made up the largest group with 7,116 cases, followed by motorcyclists (6,596), car drivers (2,576), and public transport operators (447)," he said. "For the same period, there were also 25,338 road tax-related offences." It was recently revealed that some owners of high-powered luxury vehicles are allegedly choosing not to renew their road tax and insurance because the fines are cheaper.

Immigration FC eyes Darulaman Stadium as Super League home
ALOR STAR: Immigration FC (IFC) is eyeing the iconic Darulaman Stadium as its home ground for the upcoming Super League season in a bid to bring top-tier football closer to fans in the northern region. The team, which falls under the Home Ministry's purview, will be based in the north to offer supporters in Kedah and Perlis the opportunity to back a Super League side on home turf, said Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Saifuddin said IFC, one of two teams under the ministry set to feature in the Super League next season, began intensive training in July, with Kedah chosen as the team's preparation base. "There are already many teams in the Klang Valley. But in the north, Perlis and Kedah — once dominant forces in Malaysian football — are no longer in the Super League. That's why we're stationing IFC here," he said during a press conference at the Raia Hotel and Convention Centre yesterday. "This gives northern football fans a new option, a Super League team they can follow much closer to them." For now, IFC will play home matches at Batu Kawan Stadium in Penang, pending approval to use Darulaman Stadium. The team will train at the Muda Agriculture Development Authority (Mada) headquarters stadium in Alor Star. Saifuddin said the Datuk Sheikh Ahmad Stadium in Arau is also being considered once upgrade works are completed in the coming months. "We've submitted our application and are waiting for a response... The best is if we can get Darulaman, we plan to lease the stadium for a whole season," he said. "This is good income for the stadium as Super League matches are played at night, while A1 League matches are held in the afternoon, so there should be no scheduling conflicts." Darulaman Stadium is currently the home ground of the Kedah Football Association (KFA), which competes in the A1 Semi-Pro League. On IFC's prospects, Saifuddin expressed confidence that the squad, comprising seasoned local players and international imports, could be competitive in its debut season. He said he told the head coach, Yusri Che Lah, to focus on building the team and not worry about lofty goals. "Of course, I whispered, 'Top four.' He replied, 'Let's aim for top five,'" he quipped. Saifuddin added that several corporate sponsors had also come on board with strong support for the team this season.

Students to represent M'sia at global robotics event
KUALA LUMPUR: Sixteen students from four Malaysian polytechnics will carry the Jalur Gemilang to the 30th FIRA RoboWorld Cup and Summit 2025 in Daegu, South Korea, an international robotics event featuring the latest in bipedal robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous systems. At the flag-off ceremony at Seri Pacific Hotel, Higher Education deputy minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud urged students to see themselves not just as competitors but as ambassadors of innovation. 'You are not just going to Daegu as students. You are representing Malaysia. 'With only 16 participants, you are the country's unsung heroes. Share your journey and show how Malaysia competes with the world.' Coaching one of the key categories, HuroCup, Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah robotics coach Muhammad Farhan Uzair Faisal said preparations began last year, with students selected through project showcases and national trials. 'Our main challenge is not the technical side, but to maintain consistency in performance. 'Scoring is based on time and task execution, such as getting bipedal robots to sprint, detect patches and return to the start within three minutes.' The Malaysian contingent will compete in four categories, HuroCup, Autonomous Car, A-Drone Autonomous Race and A-Drone Emergency Service, represented by Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah, Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah, Politeknik Port Dickson and Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah. Farhan said robotics strengthens the role of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in industrial automation. 'Many do not realise how robotics ties into TVET. It incorporates AI, Internet of Things (IoT), real-time vision systems and automation, skills that are critical for Industry 4.0 and beyond.' He added that the team is targeting at least 10 medals, with the HuroCup alone offering up to 14 potential wins through two participating teams. Farhan also expressed confidence in the capability of the students to match international competitors. 'One of the challenges is the academic level gap. We are sending diploma students, but internationally, most are degree or postgraduate level. 'Even so, our students have beaten them before. Two years ago, three of our students brought home six medals.' He added that each medal winner would also receive RM1,000 as a token of appreciation and motivation. He expressed hope that the experience would inspire appreciation for robotics in TVET and encourage students to aim higher. Among the students heading to South Korea is 20-year-old Harith Adly Hilmi from Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah, who will compete in the basketball robotics category. He admitted he was not initially interested in robotics until he joined the club at his campus. 'I did not know anything about robotics, but once I understood how it worked, such as coding, programming, building logic, I was hooked. 'It is not something we learn in 'regular' classes, so we had to push ourselves.' Harith described the selection process as competitive, with only the top four or five students selected across all polytechnics. 'I'm excited. It is an honour to represent Malaysia. My family was proud when they found out. 'It is not something small, to be chosen for an international competition such as this. 'In five years, I see myself in this field. Whether it is robotics or AI, I want to keep learning and contributing.' The initiative is led by the Jabatan Pendidikan Politeknik dan Kolej Komuniti under the Higher Education Ministry. Director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Zahari Ismail said the effort supports the ministry's goal of elevating the standing of Malaysia in tech and innovation through TVET. 'FIRA RoboWorld Cup is a global stage for creativity, problem-solving and teamwork. 'These students are proof that polytechnic education can produce world-class talent.' Malaysia's previous achievements include the Best Technical Startup Award by Politeknik Port Dickson in 2024 and multiple medals in the HuroCup category in 2023 by Politeknik Sultan Idris Shah and Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah. The 2025 event runs from Aug 11 to Aug 15 in Daegu, South Korea.
