Sabah among top 5 in terms of projects: Hajiji

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is among the top five states in the country in terms of development projects and programmes completion, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (pic). Based on the MyProjek report, he said a total of 1,271 projects, comprising 396 continuity projects and 876 new ones, are being implemented this year in Sabah. 'Of the figure, 1,171 projects or RM5.584 billion are physical projects while another 100 or RM355.24 million are non-physical projects. I urge everyone to step up to ensure Sabah achieves the best in terms of projects or programmes implementation in Malaysia,' he said when chairing the State Development Action Council (MTPNg) meeting at Menara Kinabalu here Thursday. Despite the good performance, the Chief Minister emphasised that it should not be an excuse to become complacent and slow down the momentum in monitoring government programmes or projects. 'Instead, it should serve as an indicator for us to work harder to improve and complete every programme and project more swiftly, accurately and in an orderly manner, ultimately bringing benefits to all the people,' he said. Hajiji said the implementation of programmes and projects should not solely fall on the shoulders of one agency, rather all agencies and ministries should play a significant role in ensuring their success. The Chief Minister said the State Government has also made efforts to strengthen the State's financial governance by enhancing financial management procedures and guidelines. This is carried out through the evaluation and consideration of procurement procedures as well as the appointment of concessions as a mechanism to address development issues in the State, he said. 'In addition, each agency or ministry must monitor more frequently the disbursement of allocated funds to ensure they are fully utilised and benefit the people. 'Payments to contractors and consultants must also be made promptly, accurately and in an orderly fashion to ensure that project implementation in the state is not disrupted or delayed,' he said. The Chief Minister also reminded the Council to ensure all pressing development needs are addressed swiftly. Hajiji said the State Government is also relentless in carrying out initiatives under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan to implement income enhancement and productivity improvement programmes to address the poor and hardcore poor issues, which is dynamic. 'Through these initiatives, we are not only helping to increase income but also strive to assist targeted groups to get out of poverty. 'Our concern is also evident through our relentless efforts and hard work in ensuring that every national or State agenda is adhered to, improved upon and further enhanced,' he said. Hajiji said the continuous provision of needs and facilities to the people, through the upgrading of public amenities, basic facilities, social infrastructure and social service assistance, has provided multiple benefits to the poor in Sabah. In addition, he said the Human Capital and People's Wellbeing thrust in the Hala Tuju SMJ Development Plan also focuses on developing the potential of the people through education, training and social wellbeing. (Wikipedia pic) PETALING JAYA : Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) may have chosen to work with Pakatan Harapan (PH) at the upcoming state polls as the coalition is headed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, says former Sabah chief minister Salleh Said Keruak. The Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) treasurer said GRS, the state's ruling coalition, might want to ensure strong ties with the federal government. 'This aligns with the need to ensure political stability and continued development for Sabah,' he said in a Facebook post. While BN and PH are partners in the unity government at the federal level, BN sits in the opposition in the Sabah legislative assembly. GRS chairman Hajiji Noor said yesterday that his coalition would form an alliance with PH for the upcoming state polls. PH had previously agreed to an electoral pact for the state election with BN. Sabah BN chief Bung Moktar Radin said the coalition would not work with GRS in the state election, and would only consider cooperation after the outcome of the election. Salleh nevertheless said that GRS's decision to work with PH must be respected. 'Undoubtedly, they have their own reasons, and the people will be the judge,' he said. He added that BN had decided to work with PH as the two coalitions were the foundation of the unity government at the federal level. He said cooperation between the two was a 'logical and responsible continuation of that partnership'. 'How PH manages its cooperation with both BN and GRS is not our concern. What matters to us in BN is sincerity in partnership, and our focus remains on strengthening our party on the ground,' he said.

Sabah polls: PH has a delicate balancing act to pull off, says former CM Salleh
KOTA KINABALU: It will be up to Pakatan Harapan to walk the tightrope in juggling electoral cooperation between Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), says Datuk Salleh Said Keruak. The Sabah Umno treasurer said that with GRS opting to forge an electoral pact with Pakatan in the coming state election, Barisan will leave it to Pakatan to manage the cooperation among the three parties. ALSO READ: Sabah polls: GRS and Pakatan to continue electoral pact "For Barisan, we chose to work with Pakatan early on... (as) we are the foundation of the unity government at the federal level. So this cooperation is a logical and responsible continuation," the former chief minister said in a Facebook post on Monday (July 28). "How Pakatan manages cooperation with Barisan and GRS is none of our business. "What is important for Barisan is sincere cooperation, and our focus is to strengthen the party on the ground. "We want to win and help our coalition partners. We are not a two-faced player. "Our approach is clear – honest, open, and for the good of the people of Sabah." GRS and Sabah Barisan were partners in the 2020 state election. ALSO READ: GRS partners surprised over Hajiji's GRS-PH pact announcement They have refused to work with each other since Sabah Barisan withdrew its support for Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor in January 2023. Sabah Pakatan filled the vacuum and kept Hajiji's state government afloat. Salleh said the GRS decision to forge an electoral pact with Pakatan reflected that it has chosen to work with national parties and reject the "all local" approach adopted in Sarawak. "The GRS decision to choose Pakatan as a partner for the Sabah election deserves respect. "It ultimately rejected the solo path and chose to work with national parties. Of course, it has (its reasons)... and the people will judge," Salleh added. "We in Barisan have been consistent from the beginning that a coalition with Pakatan is the best approach for stability," he said. There has been no immediate official reaction by GRS coalition partners to Hajiji's announcement. Salleh believes that GRS chose Pakatan as a partner because it wanted to work with the Prime Minister's party to ensure good relations with the Federal Government. "This is in line with the need to guarantee political stability and development for Sabah," he said. Over the last few weeks, Sabah Barisan and Pakatan have reached several agreements on seats to be contested in their negotiations in Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.

KOTA KINABALU: PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh has confirmed the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance in Sabah for the upcoming state election. "PKR always welcomes cooperation with any party in facing the Sabah state election," she said. "PKR believes it is a win-win combination. It is a win for the people of Sabah, and also a win for all component parties in the cooperation," she told the New Straits Times. Yesterday, the Chief Minister and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor reiterated his commitment to work with Sabah PH for the upcoming state election. He attributed this willingness to work with PH to their leaders' support during the attempt to topple the GRS-led state government in 2023. However, Hajiji said that the people of Sabah should vote wisely to ensure GRS, a local-based coalition, dominates the political scene in the state. Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat chief Datuk Mustapha Sakmud had said that despite PH eyeing over 20 seats, both coalitions would still have to sit down to negotiate on which seats to contest.
