Public transport disruptions
Buses that normally cross the Harbour Bridge will terminate at North Sydney or Wynyard during the closure. Travellers should expect significant crowding at those stations and on nearby platforms.
Additional transport changes on Sunday include:
Metro: No services between Tallawong and Sydenham due to trackwork. Buses will replace services between Tallawong and Chatswood. Trains remain available between Chatswood, the City, and Sydenham.
Trains: Replacement buses will run between Central and Bondi Junction on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line and the South Coast Line.
Light Rail: L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford services will stop at Town Hall from 12 pm and resume once deemed safe.
Ferries: Services may face overcrowding as commuters shift to alternative transport.
Court-approved Sydney Harbour protest to go ahead
The New South Wales Supreme Court granted permission for the march, reversing earlier police objections. Justice Belinda Rigg noted that the protest is driven by the belief that the 'horror and urgency of the situation in Gaza demands an urgent and extraordinary response.'
The Palestine Action Group, which is organising the protest, described the event on social media as an 'immense march for humanity.'
Transport for NSW and authorities urge the public to monitor live updates, follow directions from tunnel operators in case of queuing, and allow extra travel time across the city.

1 2 Kolkata: A 55-year-old Kolkata resident and former Guinness record holder, Subrata Boral, is all set to start a 1,500-km journey in the Himalayas, covering nearly a dozen motorable passes across Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal on a moped. Boral, who held the Guinness record for biking at 20,488 feet, is a resident of Kalipark in New Town. He set off on his journey on Tuesday afternoon from Gulmarg after the humble 110 CC moped left the hill town. In next one month, he will traverse more than 1,500 km while crossing nearly a dozen passes. The highest pass Boral is scheduled to cover is located at an altitude of 19,024 feet. Boral started riding bikes in 1995 and began covering long stretches on 100 CC bikes. In 1997, he went to Khardung La and reached the Everest Base Camp on a bike in 2000. "It is not the machine, but the man who rides it. I gave it a try with a scooter last year. I traversed nearly 2,000 km in the Himalayan range and decided to use a moped this time," he said. "While a moped is easy to manoeuvre, it lacks the momentum needed to tackle mountain stretches. The one I am using can reach a speed of up to 60 km. But a moped is easier as there are areas where the rider has to drag a two-wheeler," he said. The tourism department launched the exercise to prevent similar incidents during peak seasons and festivals, when many popular religious sites see overwhelming crowds. Tourism officials said Kainchi Dham was selected as the first location for the pilot study due to its consistently high footfall, especially in June during the annual bhandara in memory of Neem Karoli Baba. The temple draws lakhs of devotees annually and was already being monitored as a high-density spiritual site. The July stampede at Mansa Devi occurred on the first Monday of Shravan, a day that traditionally sees large turnouts, prompting urgent safety reviews at other key shrines. Under the new system, National Population Register (NPR) devices and CCTV cameras have been installed across the temple premises. A dedicated team is monitoring the number of devotees entering the shrine and the vehicles arriving in the area. "We've started the assessment from Kainchi Dham. The survey will determine the number of pilgrims and tourists visiting the shrine daily, as well as the volume of vehicles arriving in the area," an official said. Haridwar DM Mayur Dixit told TOI that a combination of short- and long-term measures had been rolled out at Mansa Devi temple following the stampede. "We have discussed a long-term redevelopment plan with senior officials, which includes widening of the pedestrian route and overall infrastructure upgrades at the temple. A detailed proposal has also been sent for consideration under the Kumbh Mela budget," he said. As part of immediate safety steps, all shops located within the temple complex and along the pedestrian route have been shut. A primary health centre will be built on-site to handle medical emergencies. The administration has also created a designated holding area within the premises and sealed the rear gate for routine use—it will now be used only as an emergency exit. To improve access and crowd movement, encroachments have been removed from the temple's approach routes. Authorities are also planning to install a permanent police check post in the area. The temple committee has been asked to deploy private security personnel and sanitation workers to ensure hygiene and order during busy hours. Dixit said a proposal had been submitted to repair and upgrade the hill bypass route to help manage pilgrim flow during peak seasons. He added that the entire temple and surrounding walkways would soon be brought under full CCTV surveillance for real-time crowd management and rapid emergency response. Officials said the survey results will help develop customised crowd management plans based on each site's topography and infrastructure.
