‘Manxho' takes NE's smoked meat tradition to masses

Time of India8 hours ago

Dibrugarh: What began as a passion project by three entrepreneurs from Khowang, a remote village in Dibrugarh, has blossomed into a remarkable success story within India's food sector.
'Manxho', a meat delivery startup founded by Jitu Bora, Diganta Saikia and Vardhan Saikia, has effectively commercialised traditional smoked meats and pioneered their distribution throughout India, introducing the rich, smoky flavours of Assam to dinner tables nationwide.
Founded shortly after the Covid pandemic in 2020, 'Manxho' (meaning 'meat' in the local language) was established with the vision of standardizing and preserving the northeast's age-old smoked meat traditions.
For many years, smoked pork and other meats were produced in small batches, enjoyed locally, and seldom found outside the region.
"Smoked meat is a cultural heritage in Assam and the northeast. We aimed to make these flavours available to everyone, while ensuring hygiene, taste and authenticity," said Bora.
Their hard work yielded impressive results. In 2022, 'Manxho' was honoured with the prestigious 'Son of the Soil Awards Assam,' presented by Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Dibrugarh, recognizing their successful rural startup story.

The brand's innovation continued with the recent launch of a line of ready-to-eat (RTE) meat products.
"Our RTE range is revolutionary. Whether you're a student, traveller, or someone in a remote area with limited cold storage, you can now savour authentic Assamese meat dishes at any time, from anywhere," Bora said.
What distinguishes 'Manxho' is its blending of tradition with technology. Their product offerings — including smoked pork, smoked chicken, smoked fish, smoked duck and tribal-inspired spice blends and pickles like Bhoot Jolokia pickle, smoked pork pickle and axone pickle — are sourced, aiding local farmers and safeguarding regional recipes.

Venkaiah Naidu launches biography of Dr AVS Raju

Hyderabad: The much-anticipated biography 'Standing Tall' of Dr AVS Raju, the founder and chairman emeritus of Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) was launched by M Venkaiah Naidu, former Vice President of India and former Union Minister of Civil Aviation, P Ashok Gajapathi Raju on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, Venkaiah Naidu described the biography as vividly bringing out the entrepreneur, the poet, and the family man in Padma Shri Awardee AVS Raju. Naidu also highlighted that AVS Raju's construction company was one of its kind which not only focused on developmental projects but also tried to resolve the environment concerns. 'AVS Raju always had environment conservation in mind and was focused on raising more trees. He never saw the available resources as devices of success, and always remained humble,' he explained. The former Vice President said that India has potential to become a 'Vishwaguru' if the traditional values are adopted. Taking potshots at the Opposition, Venkaiah Naidu said that despite the fact that Englishmen looted India, there was a section of society which found English as the greatest language and culture. 'There is a need for highlighting the heroes like Shivaji and Rana Pratap, so that current generations understand the traditional values. India has potential not only to become powerful but to stand as an example for others,' he underlined. The event held in Gachibowli was graced by a distinguished gathering of luminaries from the fields of business, politics and literature. Authored by journalist Pattabi Ram, this biography chronicles AVS Raju's transformative journey from humble beginnings to becoming a trailblazer in the Indian Infrastructure sector. 'This biography embodies Dr AVS Raju's extraordinary life, values and principles. It serves as a source of inspiration, guiding our journey and reminding us of the ideals that have shaped our organisation's legacy. I hope 'Standing Tall' inspires future generations to dream boldly, work relentlessly, and contribute meaningfully to society,' said A Ranga Raju, MD, NCC Limited. © 2025 All Rights Reserved. Maharashtra Housing Policy 2025: Statewide survey proposed to assess housing demand in post-COVID-19 era

The Maharashtra government, as part of its Maharashtra Housing Policy 2025, has proposed a housing demand survey across all districts to assess the current requirements. The government noted that post-COVID-19, housing needs and consumption patterns have changed drastically, making it essential to update the policy framework. According to the policy, a detailed housing need survey and analysis will be carried out across all districts of the state and is targeted for completion by 2026. This will enable a district-wise understanding of housing demand. "These surveys will focus on understanding existing housing conditions, socio-economic profiles, and access to basic infrastructure and services. The collected data will serve as the foundation for policy formulation, resource allocation, and prioritisation of housing projects to address diverse regional and demographic needs effectively," the policy reads. The policy highlights that a core component of the survey will be a comprehensive demand analysis aimed at capturing both current and projected housing needs across various income groups and geographic areas. This data-driven approach, the policy states, will help the state align its housing supply strategies with actual ground-level demand, enabling more targeted and effective planning. The policy emphasises a need-based survey approach to ensure inclusive and equitable housing solutions across Maharashtra. As per the approved framework, the survey will assess housing requirements across different income groups, with a special focus on vulnerable populations such as economically weaker sections (EWS), low-income groups (LIG), working women, senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities.
