Neymar responds to jeering fans by scoring for Santos directly from corner
Jeering fans from Internacional de Limeira provoked Neymar to score the first olimpico of his career, the Brazil international said on Sunday, after guiding Santos to a 3-0 win in the Paulista Championship.
Neymar scored directly from a corner in the 27th minute, bending in a right-footed shot which struck the far post and ended up in the goal. The 33-year-old also provided two assists for Tiquinho Soares to score a first-half double. 'They teased me and I said, now I'm the one who's going to score the goal,' Neymar told TNT Sports.
The home fans also taunted Neymar in the ninth minute when he walked up to take a corner, and the former Barcelona and Paris St Germain forward responded by signalling for them to sing louder before setting up Soares to score. 'My greatest joy is playing football,' Neymar posted on social media.
Neymar, who left Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal last month to return to his boyhood club, said last week that Santos were helping him 'to rediscover soccer, rediscover joy'. Santos play Bragantino in the Paulista Championship quarter-finals next weekend.

Premier League TV viewers down after boring end to the season
TV viewer numbers for Premier League matches dropped last season after two previous record-breaking years, due in part to a lack of a close title race or relegation battle. Sky Sports viewing numbers were down 10 per cent last season to be broadly in line with the 2021-22 campaign. TNT Sports' Saturday 12.30pm kick-off showed a 5 per cent drop on the 2023-24 season, and a 17 per cent drop with the two full midweek rounds included. The numbers were presented to Premier League clubs at their annual meeting last week. Clubs were told Liverpool's romp to the title without a serious challenge from Arsenal or Manchester City meant viewer numbers dropped off particularly over the last six weeks of the season — until then they had been close to the 2023-24 season. The lack of a compelling relegation battle also affected interest towards the end of the campaign with Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton effectively guaranteed to go down a couple of months before the end of the season. There may also have been more competition from other matches on TV with Sky streaming a record number of EFL games. Statistics sent out to the clubs in the 2023-24 season showed Sky Sports' average match viewership up by 4.1 per cent to 1.78million, with TNT Sports up 14 per cent to an average of 1.15million viewers. Next season will see even more live Premier League matches on TV when a new broadcast deal starts. Sky will show at least 215 top-flight matches live, up from 128, including all games moved to Sundays because of clubs' involvement in European competitions. TNT Sports will retain 52 games including the Saturday 12.30pm kick-offs and two midweek rounds. For the first time in six years, Amazon Prime will have no Premier League rights meaning there will be two rather than three subscriptions for viewers to pay. Insiders at broadcasters hope that fact plus the extra number of matches — every game not kicking off during the Saturday afternoon blackout will be available live — will cut the number of people using pirate streams to watch games. Anecdotal evidence shows that some fans are frustrated by being unable to watch their teams' matches via the broadcasters and seek out illegal streams instead. In February, Sky Sports' chief operating officer Nick Herm called on Amazon to crack down on illegal streaming by adding tougher controls to its fire sticks, estimating that these were indirectly to blame for approximately half of illegal streaming of Premier League matches in the UK. Research by the company Enders Analysis said Amazon, Google, Meta and Microsoft have been guilty of 'ambivalence and inertia' over the problem. Amazon has said it remains 'vigilant in our efforts to combat piracy'. The new Premier League TV deal is the first one to run over four years instead of three and is worth a total of £6.7billion, which includes £300million from the BBC for Match of the Day highlights.

Andrew Castle has urged the BBC to keep their Wimbledon TV rights if a rule change allowed TNT Sports to become the principle UK broadcaster. The BBC have been exclusively showing Wimbledon in the UK since 1937 – but for the first time in 2025 – TNT Sports are the secondary broadcaster. TNT Sports have taken over the daily 90-minute highlights show, aired at the end of each day's play, and will also be showing the singles finals along with the BBC, with viewers able to watch those matches on either channel. As things stand, Wimbledon is a Category A event by Ofcom, meaning that live coverage must be made available on free-to-air channels like the BBC. But a rule change could allow TNT Sports to become the main broadcaster in the UK, with Wimbledon reportedly costing the BBC around £60m a year. TNT Sports already have the UK rights to show the Australian Open and French Open, while the US Open rights are currently owned by Sky Sports. The BBC's current TV deal with Wimbledon is up in 2027 and Castle, who works for the broadcaster, has told Metro via Betway that the iconic Grand Slam tennis event should always be free to air without commercial breaks. 'I don't think they ever would [allow a rival broadcaster to take over],' former British tennis player Castle said about the BBC's TV deal. 'In terms of a domestic audience in the UK is concerned, I'd be very surprised if it wasn't on the BBC and free to air. 'But I've been surprised before. I just don't see why or the particular benefit and that's what matters to me. 'It's an institution and an event, not a tennis tournament. As long as people see it because it is the big showcase. 'When I think of Wimbledon on the BBC, what is really lovely is there are no commercial breaks. 'And from my point of view in commentary, I've got to think about what we are going to talk about in the breaks with Tim Henman, John McEnroe, Nick Kyrgios – that's what I'm thinking about towards the end of a game.' The British tennis star has only ever been seeded once at Wimbledon – which came three years ago. Quizzed about Raducanu, currently ranked world No.37, Caste said: 'Emma now seems to be doing what a lot of people have been saying what she needs to do – and that is playing a lot of matches. 'Whether the body couldn't handle it or the mind wanted it, it doesn't really matter about the past. We're seeing a very exciting new phase for her and who knows how long it lasts but she is looking motivated, she looks very happy on the court.
