First Four bringing big boost to local businesses

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Dayton businesses and hotels are gearing up for a boost this week, thanks to the NCAA First Four games.
This year marks the 14th time the University of Dayton has hosted the First Four since the play-in games began in 2011.

The Marriott Hotel at the University of Dayton is hosting three of the eight First Four teams, saying it's going to be a packed week. Hotel employees have been hard at work preparing for the teams and fans to arrive Monday evening.
'We anticipate a lot of traveling fans and students,' said Micah Stampf, general manager of the Marriott Hotel at UD.
The hotel says the busiest days for them will be Tuesday and Wednesday, but the hustle begins Monday.
'It will be very busy with the team arrival. Obviously we want to create as memorable of an experience for these gentlemen as possible,' said Stampf. 'We'll have hotel staff and members from Destination Dayton that will help us welcome them when they get here.'
And it's not just the First Four bringing business. The Marriott will also see more guests with the Ohio State University men's basketball tournament this week.
'With such an influx in a very short period of time with teams and fans, we always make sure we have the right people on hand, and the right amount of people so that we're able to serve these folks,' said Stampf.

The same is true over at Milano's Subs on Brown Street — but they expect this year's First Four to be busier than ever.
'It's going to be really super busy, with a big name like Caroline coming to town, and Xavier, which is only an hour down the road' said Larry Adkisson, general manager at Milano's. 'I think this will be one of the biggest First Fours yet.'
Adkisson says they will be the busiest on game days starting two hours before tip off time. He promises they're all about keeping the energy high and the excitement rolling all week long.
'We partnered up with Modelo, and we're doing a little, pop-a-shot basketball contest. Anybody can come and play it. We've got prizes that we're going to give out,' said Adkisson.
Local businesses say their goal is to make teams and visitors feel welcome — and make Dayton feel like home over the next few days.
2 SPORTS will cover the tournament all week on WDTN Channel 2.

DA Davidson Keeps Buy Rating on Shift4 Payments (FOUR)

On June 5, DA Davidson analysts maintained a Buy recommendation on Shift4 Payments, Inc. (NYSE:FOUR) with a $124 price target. The company has shown solid momentum, and the analysts' decision comes in light of Global Blue's financial results for the fourth fiscal quarter and full-year 2025. Shift4 announced the acquisition of Global Blue for $7.50 per common share in cash back in February 2025. A business person using a mobile point of sale device outside of a retail store. Global Blue disclosed a 20% year-over-year boost in total revenue, coming in at €508 million. The company's adjusted EBITDA grew 36% year-over-year and reached €202 million. However, even with these encouraging financials, DA Davidson analysts mentioned that they do not foresee notable changes to their initial forecasts of Shift4 numbers. Meanwhile, the Buy rating reflects steady confidence by analysts in the company. Shift4 Payments, Inc. (NYSE:FOUR) delivers end-to-end commerce solutions, combining modern POS systems with omnichannel payment processing across industries. With a growing footprint in hospitality, retail, and e-commerce, Shift4 is scaling through tech-forward solutions like SkyTab and Shift4Shop. The company was established in 1999 and is headquartered in Pennsylvania. Panthers fans, many eager to attend Game 3, cheer as Florida evens Stanley Cup Final

Go Cats Go! The chants roared in Sunrise Friday, and they're only going to get louder next week. While the Florida Panthers breaking the hearts of Edmonton Oilers fans in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final up in Alberta, their delirious fans were warming up the barn by the swamp for their team's return to Broward County. The defending champs got the all-important split in Edmonton thanks to a thrilling 5-4 double-overtime victory Friday. Game 3 is back in Sunrise Monday, and if Game 2's Panthers watch party was any preview, expect a wild atmosphere. The lower level, packed for the start of the game, was far emptier when Brad Marchand ended it more than four hours later. But they made a major ruckus when the game winner went through the pipes. As a result, the Panthers don't need to win another road game if they take care of business in the swamp. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. This has all the makings of a series going seven games -- again. The Panthers and Oilers are as evenly matched as two teams can get. So if these teams go the distance for the Cup for a second straight year, Amerant Bank will be the place to be. Particularly for fans on a budget. The $15 entry fee for Friday's watch party – which benefitted the Florida Panthers Foundation – is pittance compared to the steep bill for Games 3, 4, and 6 (should the series get that far). 'This year, the prices have like tripled,' said Lorenzo Echeverria, 22, of Boca Raton. Echeverria was part of a big group that made the trip down the Sawgrass for Games 1 and 2. And he ponied up $500 for a seat in the last row of the building for Game 3. 'I didn't go the last couple of years, I was like, this year, I don't care what the prices we going. With Game 6, I think it is starting in like $1,000 I love the Panthers, but I got loans.' And an extensive wardrobe. Echeverria isn't a superstitious guy, but after the Panthers blew a 3-1 lead in Game 1, he changed up his threads. He went with the Matthew Tkachuk Four Nations Team USA sweater Friday night. After Florida's riveting come-from-behind win, he might never wash it. 'I think if we play our best hockey, there's no reason we go back-to-back.' Jackson Drowos, 13, wore his personalized Panthers jersey to the arena Friday. He'll wear it again to Games 3 and 4 – without laundering. Jackson's favorite player? Sam Bennett, who scored his 13th postseason goal in the first period Friday. His favorite part of Panthers games, which he attends with his dad Bryan? 'The atmosphere.' Credit the Panthers staff for making a game on TV feel like the real thing Friday night.
