‘Not funny': Sex toy tossed on WNBA court for second time this week
Video showed the sex toy out of bounds under a basket after a whistle was blown to stop play during the third quarter of the Golden State Valkyries' 73-66 victory over the Chicago Sky. An official then kicked it aside before it was picked up and removed.
'It's super disrespectful,' Sky center Elizabeth Williams said in the postgame press conference. 'I don't really get the point of it. It's really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up.'
A similar incident occurred Tuesday during the Valkyries' 77-75 victory over the Atlanta Dream in College Park, Georgia.
Weird but true 🧐: The Golden State Valkyries 🟣⚫️⚔️ are now 2-0 when a bein green dildo has been thrown on the court pic.twitter.com/WRsGStSxGa
'I mean, first of all, it was super dangerous,' Valkyries forward Cecilia Zandalasini said after Tuesday's game. 'And then when we found out what it was, I guess we just started laughing. I've never seen anything like that. I'm just glad we worked through that situation. We stayed locked in, we stayed concentrated.'
New York Liberty forward Isabelle Harrison commented on social media about the situation Friday.
'ARENA SECURITY?! Hello??!' Harrison said on X. 'Please do better. It's not funny. Never was funny. Throwing ANYTHING on the court is so dangerous.'
Among the other players to address the safety risk was Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, who said: 'stop throwing dildos on the court… you're going to hurt one of us.'

Michael Busch, Cubs look to feast on Cards' pitching in finale
August 10 - Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell insisted it was just a matter of time before his batters got rolling again. "I'll say it again: This is a good offense," Counsell said after the Cubs lost 5-0 to the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday. "We're going to score runs." Chicago did just that on Saturday night in a 9-1 rout of St. Louis. The Cubs will try to build off that breakthrough on Sunday night when they finish their three-game weekend road series against the Cardinals. The Cubs scored three runs or fewer on six occasions during a nine-game span before Saturday's uprising. Michael Busch has punished Cardinals pitching all season, going 15-for-34 with six homers, 12 runs and 11 RBIs. Many Cubs joined him on Saturday, including Matt Shaw (2-for-3, homer, two runs, two RBIs), Carson Kelly (3-for-4, RBI), Dansby Swanson (3-for-4, stolen base, two runs) and Kyle Tucker (1-for-4, walk, two runs, RBI). "A multiple-run first inning, which I felt was just good, we haven't been doing that a lot lately," Counsell said of the two-run inning. "We played really good offense, hit a bunch of balls hard tonight, and put a big run number up." The Cubs on Sunday will start left-hander Shota Imanaga (8-4, 3.12 ERA), who is trying to sustain a late-season turnaround. Imanaga struggled during his last two starts in July while allowing 10 runs on 17 hits -- including five homers -- in just eight innings. He got back on track on Tuesday while holding the Cincinnati Reds to one run on three hits in 6 1/3 innings while striking out seven and walking none. The Cubs lost 5-1. Imanaga earned a 3-0 victory over the Cardinals on June 26, blanking them for five innings on one hit and one walk while striking out three. He is is 2-0 with a 2.41 ERA in three career starts against St. Louis. The Cardinals will counter on Sunday with right-hander Sonny Gray (10-5, 4.21 ERA), who also is trying to sustain a turnaround. Gray delivered his best performance since June in his last start. He held the Dodgers to one run on one hit -- a Freddie Freeman homer -- in seven innings on Monday in Los Angeles. He struck out eight and walked one as St. Louis won 3-2. Gray re-established his sweeper against the Dodgers. "I knew it was sharp when Shohei (Ohtani) swung at it as the first batter of the game, but I also set it up pretty well because I got the ball to his hands so that his hips were moving earlier," Gray told "But when I threw that first one to (Ohtani) and he swung at it, I knew that was a good thing. Then, when Freddie did it as well, it was executed. "Then I felt more comfortable in those moments because I was executing, and I had done the work to force them to swing." Cardinals utility player Brendan Donovan is questionable for Sunday's game. He was a late scratch from the lineup Saturday night due to left groin tightness. --Field Level Media

Kelsey Plum leaves fans stunned as she sparks heated on-court exchange with 'dirty' move
Kelsey Plum left fans enraged on Saturday night as she tripped an opponent during the Sparks' loss to the Valkyries. Plum was guarding Golden State's Veronica Burton late in the fourth quarter, with the latter dribbling the ball at the top of the three-point arc when she tried to get past Plum. However, Burton was brought to the ground as Plum kicked out and caught her on the ankle. Plum, who also went to the ground in the moment, was then confronted by Burton - who walked over to the Sparks star and put her hands in the air before teammates stepped in to separate them. And while fourth-year player Burton was not seriously hurt in the incident, fans online criticized Plum for her 'dirty' actions. 'Kelsey Plum is the f***ing worst. Hope V is okay,' one said on X. 'Kelsey Plum can't keep up as well as she used to so she's becoming a dirty player to cope with it,' a second added. 'Kelsey Plum gets more irritating weekly in the court,' a third said. And a fourth compared her another controversial basketball player, saying: 'Kelsey Plum been doing a great Draymond [Green] impression this year.' Plum also caused controversy last month when she barreled over Lexie Hull and stepped over her during a game against the Fever. Following Saturday's game, Plum's coach, Lynne Roberts, defended her player against claims she was 'dirty' and said the trip was unintentional. 'She was trying to kick the ball,' Roberts told reporters. 'She didn't mean to [trip Burton]. I saw it live, but I didn't see the replay so I don't really know how it all shook out. But I know she was trying to kick the ball. She's not a dirty player.' Ultimately, Plum received a flagrant one foul for her trip of Burton, avoiding ejection as her team went on to lose 72-59. The four-time All-Star had a down night as she finished with just four points on 1-of-9 shooting. Nonetheless, Plum is having a strong season as she's averaging 19.8 points per contest and 6.1 assists. The Sparks fell to 14-16 on the season with their loss on Saturday.
