INDIA bloc promises healthcare transformation in Bihar with Rajasthan blueprint
Patna, June 30 (UNI) Ahead of the assembly elections in Bihar, the INDIA bloc today promised to transform the healthcare system in Bihar after forming the government.
Veteran Congress leader Ashok Gehlot announced here that a Rajasthan-model healthcare system will be implemented in Bihar to achieve the goal.
He said that Bihar's healthcare system has collapsed during the 20-year rule of Nitish Kumar. A recent CAG report has laid bare the extent of this failure. The medical staff shortage is critical. With 59,168 approved positions, only 23,851 are filled—a 60% vacancy rate. He claimed the problem is even worse for Ayush doctors (89% vacant), paramedical staff (79% vacant), and specialist doctors (up to 86% vacant).
Gehlot said: 'An INDIA bloc government in Bihar will implement a Chiranjeevi scheme, mirroring Rajasthan's Congress government's initiative, providing up to Rs25 lakh in free medical treatment at both public and private hospitals for all income levels.'
As Chief Minister of Rajasthan he had enacted the Right to Health Act in Rajasthan, guaranteeing free treatment for all emergencies. The move had significantly reduced out-of-pocket medical costs for ordinary citizens and explored making health insurance universally accessible and affordable.
The Chiranjeevi Bima Yojana provided Rs10 lakh in health insurance and Rs5 lakh in accident insurance. It also covered medication costs for five days prior to and fifteen days after hospitalisation. This plan made Rs5 lakh in coverage accessible to all income levels, a first for the nation.
He added: 'We also expanded healthcare by establishing medical colleges, increasing hospital capacity, and boosting the availability of doctors, vaccinations, and maternity services.'
AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru also criticised the state's healthcare system, claiming the current government has reduced Bihar to a state of crisis. He stated that the people of Bihar are suffering immensely due to the severely deteriorated healthcare services.
He further asserted that the government's mismanagement has pushed the state's healthcare system to a critical point, referencing a CAG report acknowledging the dire state of healthcare in Bihar. UNI XC SSP

Republicans use ‘magic trick' to hide $3.8 tn cost of Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill
Republicans are resorting to a 'magic trick' to hide $3.8 trillion from the costs of US President Donald Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill'. The bill has received widespread criticism for adding trillions to federal deficit and cutting healthcare and food assistance to millions to fund the president's political agenda. read more Republicans in the US Congress are resorting to a 'magic trick' to make as much as $3.8 trillion in costs of President Donald Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill' vanish. Trump's signature bill, which he has asked the Congress to pass by Friday, has attracted widespread criticism for adding trillions to government spending, cutting billions in healthcare and food benefits, and using these cuts to fund the president's political agenda. Republican Senators on Monday voted to treat Trump's 2017 tax cuts, which they are set to renew in the present bill, as permanent. With such an accounting trick, they have claimed that as tax cuts are already permanently, extending them would not cost anything. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD With this one claim, Republicans have sought to artificially remove $3.8 trillion from the costs of the bill. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has called it 'fake math'. 'Republicans are doing something the Senate has never, never done before — deploying fake math and accounting gimmicks to hide the true cost of their bill,' said Schumer. To set the record straight, the 2017 tax cuts were not permanent and this 'magic trick' does not really remove costs from the bill. Renewing tax cuts from 2017 means foregoing tax revenue and simply refusing to count this foregone revenue as a cost does not mean that the revenue does not get lost. Overall, Trump's bill as amended by Senate Republicans is set to add $3.3 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). This is up from the bill passed by the House Republicans that would have added $2.4 trillion to the federal deficit. The Senate Republicans' bill would also remove health insurance of 11.8 million Americans and cut food assistance as well. This is nearly 1 million more than the House version of the bill. Schumer further said, 'Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said, 'Republicans are on the verge of passing the most expensive legislation in US history, providing tax advantages to billionaires while stripping away Medicaid, SNAP benefits, and well-paying jobs for millions.'
