25 children among 27 killed in Bangladesh Air Force jet crash
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media division of the South Asia nation's Armed Forces, the Air Force's F-7 BGI training aircraft took off at 1:06 p.m. (local time) on Monday and crashed into the Milestone School and College building in Dhaka's Uttara around 1.30 p.m.
Addressing a press briefing on Tuesday morning, Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the chief advisor at the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka, confirmed the update on the casualties.
He further stated that at least 78 people are receiving treatment at different hospitals, and five are in critical condition.
"Among the deceased, 25 are children -- many under the age of 12 -- with extensive burn injuries. The other two victims include the aircraft's pilot and a female schoolteacher," the leading Bangladeshi newspaper, The Daily Star, quoted Rahman as saying.
He added that the bodies of 20 people have been handed over to their relatives.
"We are continuing all possible efforts to provide medical care. However, the condition of some patients remains extremely critical," he added.
Rahman also stated that among the dead, six bodies have not been identified, while their DNA has been taken.
"Most of the injured are children. Their blood requirement is low. Besides, the ICU at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) is ready," Rahman further stated.
A total of 171 were injured following the tragic incident, the ISPR had said on Monday.
Members of the Bangladesh Army and eight engines of the Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and started rescue operations as the jet crashed into the two-story school building of our Milestone School and College, according to a fire service notification on Monday.
"On the first floor of this two-story building, there were classes for third and fourth graders. On the second floor, there were classes for second and fifth graders," Brigadier General Mohammad Zahed Kamal, the Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defence, was quoted as saying by the country's leading Bengali daily, Prothom Alo.
"There was a meeting room for the principal's office next to it. A coaching class was in progress," he added.

The Hemant Soren government's decision to rename a healthcare scheme launched by the previous Bharatiya Janata Party government after Mother Teresa has kicked up a political storm, with the Opposition accusing it of 'pushing a conversion agenda'. Earlier this week, the Jharkhand Cabinet decided to rename the Atal Mohalla Clinic. Launched under the Raghubar Das-led BJP government as a tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the scheme aims at strengthening health infrastructure in urban slums and provides free primary healthcare services — including consultations, medicines, and diagnostic tests. The decision to rename it 'Mother Teresa Advance Health Clinics' was taken at Chief Minister Hemant Soren's cabinet meeting earlier in the week. The chief minister also approved 20 other key proposals at this meeting. The BJP called it an attempt to 'promote religious conversion', claiming it was part of a 'larger conspiracy'. The BJP has long been alleging there's an attempt to convert the state's tribals to Christianity. 'What contribution has Mother Teresa made to Jharkhand?' senior BJP leader and former Leader of Opposition Amar Kumar Bauri said Saturday at a media briefing in Ranchi. 'The blueprint for a separate Jharkhand was based on the BJP's Vananchal vision, which was a gift from Atal ji. Religious conversion is a serious issue in the state, and Hemant Soren is using this name change to further that agenda.' BJP's Godda MP Nishikant Dubey too raked up the name change, accusing the Soren government of 'trying to erase Vajpayee's name'. Death toll in Bangladesh Air Force jet crash reaches 34
Dhaka: The death toll from the tragic Bangladesh Air Force jet crash has climbed to 34, following the death of another child on Saturday morning, local media reported. According to Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, the latest victim, 13-year-old Zarif, died from burn injuries covering 40 per cent of his body, including his respiratory tract. Another two children who were undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the facility succumbed to their injuries on Friday. The deceased were identified as Abdul Musabbir Makin, aged 13, a seventh-grade student, and Afroz Aiman, aged 10, a fourth-grade student of Milestone School. Reports suggest that among the 34 people who died in the tragic jet crash, the majority are children. Addressing reporters, the Director of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute, Nasir Uddin, stated that the condition of five people undergoing treatment at the Burn Institute is critical. "The good news is that a few people were kept on life support. The condition of two of them has improved somewhat. Their ventilators have been removed. They are able to breathe on their own. Four to five patients can be discharged on Saturday," he stated. Citing Burn Institute sources, Prothom Alo reported that expert doctors from the country have been exchanging their experiences with the medical teams from Singapore, China, and India who have joined to treat the burn victims of the jet crash in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the Indian medical team, currently visiting Bangladesh, held the second round of consultations with doctors at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. The medical team continued their mission to provide medical support to the Bangladesh authorities for treatment of critically injured patients in the aftermath of the jet crash of July 21 at Milestone School and College in Dhaka, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said in a post on X. They visited some of the patients and observed their prognosis, the Indian mission added. The team further deliberated management protocols with the doctors at the Institute and provided critical inputs for treatment methodology. The Indian medical team, now in Dhaka to help provide treatment to Milestone crash victims, held detailed medical consultations with senior officials of the Bangladesh Ministry of Health and doctors at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. They reviewed each of the critical cases, exchanged views on the treatment methodologies, and conveyed their assessment of the future course of treatment. The visit of the Indian doctors and nursing officials follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurance to extend all possible assistance and support to Bangladesh in the wake of the tragic jet crash in Dhaka on July 21.
