SHELBOURNE have been handed an All-Ireland clash in the Champions League.
Linfield were one of five possible opponents for Damien Duff's men when Uefa made the groupings ahead of the draw.

And the Reds were drawn against David Healy's side, for what will be a first European encounter between the sides.
But they have played each other in cross-border competitions before, most recently in 2006 when the Blues won 2-0 at Windsor Park and drew 0-0 at Tolka Park in the Setanta Sports Cup with both sides progressing from their group.
Shels' only encounter with a team from north of the border in a Uefa competition was when they were pitted against Glentoran 20 years ago.
With the away leg falling on July 12, the climax of the marching season, Shels were excused from the usual requirement of being in the jurisdiction at least 24 hours before kick-off.

Instead, they stayed in Dundalk where officials from the two clubs dined together before travelling to The Oval on the day of the game.
Pat Fenlon's side won 2-1 in The Oval before a comprehensive 4-1 victory at Tolka Park.
Linfield - who will be without the suspended former Dundalk midfielder Chris Shields for the first leg - are the seeded team in the draw and won a record 57th league title by a whopping 22 points.
But Duff will not be unhappy with the pairing as the Blues have struggled to make an impression in European competition since throwing away qualification for the group stage of the Conference League three years ago.

Colin Keane wins opening day feature race at Royal Ascot

FIELD OF GOLD lit up the first day of Royal Ascot with a dominant display in the St James's Palace Stakes. John and Thady Gosden's colt had been a fast-finishing second behind Ruling Court in the 2000 Guineas before easily winning the Irish equivalent, while the French Guineas winner Henri Matisse was also running. There was no doubt who emerged as the best of the three though, as Colin Keane breezed through on the 8-11 favourite before bursting clear to beat Henri Matisse by three and a half lengths, with Ruling Court back in third. 𝐖𝐨𝐰. 𝐖𝐨𝐰. 𝐖𝐨𝐰. Field of Gold absolutely storms home in The St James's Palace Stakes under Colin Keane! ☘️ — Virgin Media Sport (@VMSportIE) June 17, 2025 Advertisement Field Of Gold has now charted the same route as his sire Kingman, who also suffered defeat at Newmarket before gaining Irish redemption and adding Royal Ascot glory when trained by John Gosden. 'Like father, like son,' said Gosden, in reference to Kingman's win in 2014. 'The nerves may have got to the trainer beforehand but thankfully not to the horse or the jockey. 'It was great, a great performance and Oisin (Murphy) did a nice job on Windlord setting an even pace and he came to the head of the straight and he had a lot of horse. 'For a moment I was thinking 'whoops, this is Ascot and it climbs and have we gone a bit soon'. I wasn't watching him, I was looking back as you always have to do here, but fortunately none of the dangers were coming to get him. 'He always impressed as a two-year-old but he was a big boy and slightly outgrew himself. We ran him in France which was a mistake in itself and I should have run him in the Dewhurst and I regret that. But this year he has been exemplary in everything he has done and he's a pleasure to train because he is a pretty relaxed character.' Gosden admitted the Irish 2,000 Guineas had not originally been part of Field Of Gold's intended campaign, which could influence where the colt heads next. He added: 'It was never the plan to go to Ireland and he's had a trial and two Guineas and now this which is a lot of racing and we're not even halfway through the season yet. 'Maybe (we'll) freshen him up now and go to the Sussex, but we will see. If we hadn't gone to Ireland, I would have been keen to go to the Eclipse. 'When they win like that and make it look easy they do take a lot out of themselves and I don't want to be someone seen running him back quick in an Eclipse straight off the back of this.'

FAI says they flagged European concerns with Drogheda owners last November

THE FAI SAYS it informed Drogheda United owners Trivela Group of concerns regarding the League of Ireland's club participation in the UEFA Conference League as soon as they were notified of the American investment firm's takeover of Silkeborg on 19 November last year. A report in the Irish Examiner last night stated that UEFA wrote to the FAI last October to inform them about changes to the multi-club ownership deadline procedure for European competition. Trivela are 100% owners of Drogheda and have an 80% stake in Silkeborg. Advertisement It was the manner of the communication of those changes – moving the deadline forward from June to March this year – that formed the basis of Drogheda's appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after they had been excluded following the Danish club's qualification. In the statement sent to The 42, the FAI pointed out that Trivela did not own Silkeborg at the time of the initial UEFA Circular on 7 October and 'this was not sent by the FAI to the club.' Along with their Danish counterparts DBU, the FAI confirmed they informed UEFA 'of the multi-club ownership scenario regarding Drogheda United FC and Silkeborg IF via the standard procedures.' Drogheda's place in tomorrow's draw for the second qualifying round has been taken by Shamrock Rovers who also qualified for Europe's third tier club competition, and the FAI have also confirmed that all clubs in the men's Premier Division had been invited by the association to apply for a European licence but that 'but only the four clubs who qualified on sporting merit completed the process.' The statement in full is below: 'At the time of publication of the UEFA Circular in question on 7 October 2024, Drogheda United FC's ownership group did not own Silkeborg IF therefore this UEFA Circular was not sent by the FAI to the Club. When the FAI were notified of Trivela Group's takeover of Silkeborg IF on 19 November 2024, the FAI informed the Trivela Group of our concerns regarding Drogheda United FC's participation the UEFA Conference League should Silkeborg IF qualify for the tournament due to UEFA's Multi-Club Ownership Regulations. UEFA were informed of the multi-club ownership scenario regarding Drogheda United FC and Silkeborg IF via the standard procedures by both the FAI and DBU. All ten Men's Premier Division teams were invited by the FAI to apply for a UEFA Licence in December but only the four clubs who qualified on sporting merit completed the process. On 7 May 2025 the awarding of UEFA Licences was announced by the FAI following the completion of the Independent Licensing Committee review.'

Noel Hunt lands first summer transfer as Reading swoop for ex-Limerick defender

Reading manager Noel Hunt has hailed the signing of Irish defender Paudie O'Connor from Lincoln. O'Connor, who captained the Imps, has signed a four-year contract after arriving on a free transfer, and former Ireland striker Hunt is thrilled with the deal. The Limerick native played in the League of Ireland with his hometown club Limerick, before moving to Leeds United in 2017. After loan spells with Blackpool and Bradford, he completed a permanent switch to Bradford in 2019. Lincoln signed him three years ago after his contract expired - and now Reading have taken advantage of a similar situation by landing the 27-year-old for free. Former Shamrock Rovers, Reading and Leeds striker Hunt said: 'Paudie is a fantastic lad and will be a big character in the dressing room. 'He's exactly the type of person we want at our Football Club for our rebuild. He's been a huge part of Lincoln's success over the past three years. 'We've had our eyes on him for a while, I've been a big admirer of his for some time. I knew about him when he was in the Leeds setup, and I can't wait to work with him on a day to day basis.' O'Connor spent two years at Limerick, suffering relegation before helping the club bounce back up again. After trials at Crystal Palace and Leicester, he earned a move to Leeds and made his debut at Elland Road against Sunderland near the end of the 2017/18 campaign. He played a total of four times for Leeds, and is now closing in on 350 career appearances. O'Connor was Bradford's Player of the Year in both 2021 and 2022, and the club's Players' Player of the Year in 2022. New Reading chairman Rob Couhig said: 'Paudie was always the person we expected to sign at this point.'
