Colin Keane wins opening day feature race at Royal Ascot
John and Thady Gosden's colt had been a fast-finishing second behind Ruling Court in the 2000 Guineas before easily winning the Irish equivalent, while the French Guineas winner Henri Matisse was also running.
There was no doubt who emerged as the best of the three though, as Colin Keane breezed through on the 8-11 favourite before bursting clear to beat Henri Matisse by three and a half lengths, with Ruling Court back in third.

Field Of Gold has now charted the same route as his sire Kingman, who also suffered defeat at Newmarket before gaining Irish redemption and adding Royal Ascot glory when trained by John Gosden.
'Like father, like son,' said Gosden, in reference to Kingman's win in 2014. 'The nerves may have got to the trainer beforehand but thankfully not to the horse or the jockey.
'It was great, a great performance and Oisin (Murphy) did a nice job on Windlord setting an even pace and he came to the head of the straight and he had a lot of horse.
'For a moment I was thinking 'whoops, this is Ascot and it climbs and have we gone a bit soon'. I wasn't watching him, I was looking back as you always have to do here, but fortunately none of the dangers were coming to get him.
'He always impressed as a two-year-old but he was a big boy and slightly outgrew himself. We ran him in France which was a mistake in itself and I should have run him in the Dewhurst and I regret that. But this year he has been exemplary in everything he has done and he's a pleasure to train because he is a pretty relaxed character.'
Gosden admitted the Irish 2,000 Guineas had not originally been part of Field Of Gold's intended campaign, which could influence where the colt heads next.
He added: 'It was never the plan to go to Ireland and he's had a trial and two Guineas and now this which is a lot of racing and we're not even halfway through the season yet.
'Maybe (we'll) freshen him up now and go to the Sussex, but we will see. If we hadn't gone to Ireland, I would have been keen to go to the Eclipse.
'When they win like that and make it look easy they do take a lot out of themselves and I don't want to be someone seen running him back quick in an Eclipse straight off the back of this.'

'I haven't reached my potential' - Eddie Dunbar on move to Swiss Q36.5 Procycling
Double Vuelta a España stage winner Eddie Dunbar has confirmed a move to Swiss team Q36.5 Procycling on a two-year contract and believes he can step up to a new level in the period. The Corkman announced the move in a team statement on Monday and has made clear that the biggest races in the sport are his target. "Grand Tours suit me well because I always get better towards the end. I absorb the workload of a three-week race well," he said. "There have been glimpses of what I can do but due to crashes and illness I haven't reached my full potential there yet. That's something for the next two years." Dunbar will move across at the end of the season from his current Jayco AlUla outfit. He had notched up some big results during his three years with the squad, including his two stage wins at last year's Vuelta a España, as well as seventh overall in the 2023 Giro d'Italia. However, his progress has been hampered by several falls, including one which saw him retire from his debut Tour de France this year. The 28-year-old had impressed during the opening week of that race, taking fourth on stage 6 to Vire Normandie. Dunbar's move will see him work with the Belgian Kurt Bogaerts, the head of performance at Q36.5 Procycling. Bogaerts has a long history with Irish cycling, running the Sean Kelly team for many years and also being the team manager for the Irish squad at major events. He was also part of the management structure at the Ineos Grenadiers team when Dunbar competed there. "Eddie is a very interesting rider I know well. He can climb, time trial and is punchy by nature," Bogaerts said on Monday. "He has already shown great things in smaller stage races but also won two stages in the Vuelta and has ridden in support of team leaders often too. He is versatile and quite adept to hard races. I am happy he will be with us." The team already has an Irish rider: national champion Rory Townsend is part of the line-up, and took a career-best result on Sunday when he won the Hamburg Classic in Germany. Also on the squad is the Briton Tom Pidcock, who came on board at the start of the season as its new leader. Dunbar will ride in support of Pidcock in some races, but will also get his own opportunities. "The team has already done some big races, and I hope I will play my part in the future ones," he said. "Winning a race is never easy but when there is an opportunity, I am ready to take my chance. "The Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team is obviously a team on the up which is a good sign. They are really competitive in the races, take it on even if they don't win and create a good racing atmosphere riding as one. When Kurt Bogaerts - who I know well from my time at Ineos - joined, my interest was sparked even more. I know how he works. "I also spoke to [owner] Doug Ryder on how the team is going and what they expect. In Tom they have a clear leader which is always good for any team, so it seems like a good moment now to join with my knowledge and experience." Dunbar was lucky to dodge fractures in his stage 7 crash at the Tour de France, and returned to racing earlier this month in the Arctic Race of Norway. He is due to line out in the Vuelta a España, which begins in Turin in Italy on Saturday. That will be one of his final outings with the Jayco AlUla team, with Dunbar then likely to take part in training camps with his new squad later this year. The Banteer rider will be looking forward to that, and so too is Bogaerts. He emphasised Dunbar's talent but also his character, something which will help him get established with the squad. "Recruitment is not only about values and results on the bike but also off the bike," Bogaerts said. "What kind of personality does a rider have? In Eddie we have a rider who fits well in the group, is valued and loved. "He has huge potential in Grand Tours which he has already shown, and I think we can make him even better."

New AFL club planning to create unprecedented academy in Ireland
The Tasmania Devils are planning to create a first-of-its-kind academy in Ireland as they continue preparations to become the AFL's 19th team. Per a report by 7News, Tasmania want to develop a pipeline from Ireland to Australia. They are set to conduct scouting missions to America and the UK to visit professional teams before eventually creating one of their own. The Devils are expected to join the AFL in 2028 and the AFLW in 2027. They secured an AFL licence in 2023, although there has been recent turmoil over plans for a new stadium. Last month, AFL CEO Andrew Dillon stressed that the club must meet its licence agreement before entering the competition. An Irish academy would mark a significant escalation in recruitment from this country. A return of the AFL-run combine is already in the works. Pre-covid, the AFL regularly hosted a European combine in Ireland where players were tested athletically in front of club scouts. In recent years, Irish prospects have travelled to Australia to take part in the official combine. Ireland U20 rugby international and former Dublin minor David Colbert and Derry's Eoin McEvoy travelled to Melbourne last year. In 2023, four Irish players participated. Tasmania already have two individuals familiar with Irish talent in the football department. AFL recruiting figure Derek Hine is their Head of Recruiting. He signed numerous Irish players while at Collingwood. Former Melbourne List manager Todd Patterson was appointed as Head of List Management and Strategy. Earlier this year, former Collingwood star and Down All-Star Marty Clarke told 3AW's Irish Invasion podcast that the prospect of Tasmania joining the AFL competition as a 19th team will force clubs to look further afield to find players. 'At the minute, my knowledge of AFL is stronger than it even was when I was a player. I love watching it. I had my time in Australia. If I can help one or two boys or girls to go across, happy days. 'I would love them to experience what I had. I just think clubs are going to have to be smart now with Tasmania coming in, if they do get the licence. They have to find players somewhere else.' Currently, there are 13 Irish players in the AFL.
