Theatrical indie-pop outfit Skram return with their latest sonic shimmer: 'Rainbows In The Fire'; a heartfelt, synth-soaked pop anthem sparkling with hope and connection.
'Rainbows In The Fire' is described by the band as: 'An intoxicating swirl of glittering synths, emotive vocals, flashes of Bowie-esque glam – it's got a sonic palette glowing with 80's nostalgia and modern indie charm - think MUNA meets early Bowie via a Poneke dancefloor!'
At the heart of Skram are Henry Ashby (vocals, guitar, keys) and Felix Nesbitt (drums, vocals)—two dynamic forces blending theatrical energy with raw emotion. Hot on the heels of their genre-blurring single 'If We Die', 'Rainbows In The Fire' is the fourth single off their upcoming new album WHAT IS A MAN, following radiant tracks 'Purrple' released earlier this year, and 'Heroes' at the end of '24. The band had their first #1 hit single with their 2024 release 'Serendripity' exploding onto the Aotearoa Hot 20 Singles Chart, and their debut album Walk Into The Sun received widespread praise.
Written by Skram, produced by Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, The Feelers) and recorded at The Lab Studios in Tamaki Makaurau, 'Rainbows In The Fire' was engineered by Scott Seabright (Six60, Mumford & Sons), mixed by Clint Murphy (Enter Shikari, Devilskin), and mastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound (Beyonce, AC/DC).

Hello to everybody: Aotearoa's friendliest artist Sallie Culy
If cities can be lonely places no one told artist Sallie Culy. A familiar face on the streets of inner city Pōneke Wellington, Sallie counts many people she has met a friend. Its an approach to life summed up in the title of a book of her drawings recently published: Hello to Everybody . Sallie has Williams Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that causes developmental and learning disabilities. But she has turned impediments into advantages. Making it her business to make her city a friendlier place, she has also become celebrated for her art. Felt pen drawings of friends, family and celebrities, ranging from Elton John to Beyoncé, Culy exhibited in December with up and coming dealer gallery Envy, and in 2022 her drawings were selected to be blown up big and lit for three months as a Courtney Place Lightbox public art project. As an artist Sallie has a naive graphic style more familiar from childhood, but that belies how strong her bold wiry use of line and colour are. It's a style that arguably also makes her work appealing to everybody. Smiles welcome us everywhere, reminding us of the joy in people around us. Hailing from a family of skateboarders and artists, skateboarding is also a common theme - Sallie has even been called a local celebrity at Waitangi Skate Park by Wellington City Council. Pōneke Punk Band Love Party Release Debut Album WOW!
Pōneke punk band Love Party release their debut album WOW! alongside a music video for the lead single 'Wow It's So Beautiful'. Led by Kate Yesberg and Dayle Jellyman, their fuzzy alt-punk and power-pop slanted music conjures up the atmosphere of a children's birthday party for well-dressed adults with a healthy irreverence towards the status quo. Energetic, mischievous and down-to-earth, they combine tasty guitar figures and cheeky duo vocals with driving drums and basslines that get the dancefloor moving. Having been married for a decade before they started the band, Kate and Dayle bring a close, comfortable chemistry to their songcraft. Recorded at Dr Lee Prebble's Surgery studio facility in Newtown with Cory Champion (Clear Path Ensemble) on drums, WOW! is a timestamped document of everything the denim and leather-clad couple has learned about love in its many forms. Avoiding anything overt or prescriptive, they revel in giving themselves full permission to enjoy life's simple pleasures with wild-eyed gusto and abandon. The album comprises 8 full-power tracks, featuring previously released singles 'Hit It', 'Moonbaby' and 'I Don't Wanna Leave'. The lead single, 'Wow It's So Beautiful', was penned after witnessing the magic of window seat views from a domestic plane flight on a sunny day. In the music video, filmed in Wellington, Love Party is beyond excited about the beauty of birds until, would you believe it, Dayle himself becomes a bird. When they first started Love Party, Kate and Dayle decided to dive into the freedom of the unknown and learn new instruments, guitar and bass, respectively. Having both played in rock and punk bands in their teens, that shared experience allowed them to reconnect with the playful naivety of their salad days. Between the restrictions and energy this generated, they found a creative wellspring. It doesn't run wide, but it runs deep, and in those depths, they've found everything they need. 'We started jamming along with a Roland drum machine in our apartment, jumping about, looking for the fuzziest fuzz, lyrics that just fell out and felt great. Singing in unison just happened and evolved into a real feature of the music,' says Yesberg. The album is a 'time-stamped document of everything we've learned about love so far, from the romantic, to the ridiculous, to the universal.' Outside of Love Party, Kate is a well-respected abstract painter and former lawyer turned musician. Her counterpart, Dayle, is a longstanding keyboardist who plays piano and synthesiser with a who's who of party-rocking Wellington bands, including Miles Calder, Battle Ska Galactica, Fvkvshima, and The Electrons, as well as leading the celebrated Floating Head jazz ensemble.
