Deion Sanders to hold press conference with Colorado medical team amid mysterious health battle

New York Post26-07-2025
Deion Sanders provided a brief, positive health update Friday, and it seems the full reveal of his medical battle that has had him laying low this offseason is coming soon.
Sanders tweeted 'Back and Feeling Great!' on X on Friday morning with his third season as Colorado's coach nearing, and will hold a press conference Monday with his medical team, which features staffers from CU Anschutz and UC Health, to 'provide general and team updates,' the school said in a release.
The 57-year-old Sanders has not offered many details about the mysterious illness that has kept the camera friendly coach out of the spotlight this offseason.

He missed part of the Buffaloes' spring and summer workouts due to the health issue, per ESPN, and also did not attend contract-stipulated summer football camps.
Sanders told former NFL star cornerback Asante Samuel in May that 'what I'm dealing with right now is at a whole other level.'

The NFL Hall of Famer has battled various health scares in recent years, including having two toes amputated in 2021 and 2023 surgery for blood clots in his left leg.
Sanders got a little testy at Big 12 media day earlier this month when pressed about the issue, although he downplayed any concern to ESPN.

'I'm already back,' Sanders told ESPN on July 9 at Big 12 media day. 'I'm here today. I'm handling my responsibilities. So I look forward to it. I can't wait. You've got to understand, some of the young (players) I haven't even met yet. I'm so excited about that.'

Sanders spent plenty of time this offseason at his compound in Canton, Texas, with his children joining him and providing infrequent health updates.

He said in a YouTube video posted July 20 by his oldest son, Deion Jr.. that, 'You know I'm still going through something' and 'I ain't all the way recovered.'
Deion Jr. then referenced a 'battle that was fought and won' at the compound in his last YouTube video posted July 23.

Deion also recently visited son Shilo Sanders at the Buccaneers' facility while the undrafted safety attempts to crack the reigning NFC South champions' roster.

'I'm kind of sad, I'm not gonna lie to you,' Deion Jr. said of leaving the compound. 'I learned to really actually love this place. … It's not even just about being here. It was like the battle that was fought here. The battle that was fought and won here. That's like the main important thing. Boys didn't left the house for two months.
'It's a blessing. He's gonna tell y'all whatever he went through very soon, and I've got a lot of it recorded on video. So, you'll be able to see what he went through.'
Sanders faces perhaps his toughest coaching challenge this upcoming season since becoming Colorado's coach prior to the 2023 season.
He will no longer have reigning Heisman winner and two-way phenom Travis Hunter, the No. 2 pick in the draft, or quarterback son Shedeur Sanders, who fell to the fifth round.

Rockets Unwilling To Offer Kevin Durant A Max Extension; Could Change Their Mind Next Season

Rockets Unwilling To Offer Kevin Durant A Max Extension; Could Change Their Mind Next Season originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Rockets acquired Kevin Durant earlier this season via a trade that sent Jalen Green to the Suns. Following the trade, several sources speculated that Kevin Durant will look to extend his contract and plans to retire in Houston. However, some sources believe there may be a few hiccups in Durant's contract extension talks. According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, the Rockets are not likely to offer Durant a max extension this summer and haven't gone all in on him at the moment. He appeared on the latest episode of the Hoops Collective podcast and gave his opinion on the Rockets' future. 'The Rockets to me.. they've created a fascinating situation. But I agree, I think they're as well-positioned to have a long run as any franchise other than Oklahoma City. Despite the fact that they just went all in, they didn't go all in, they just made a trade to get Kevin Durant, who is going into year 18.' 'They did not go all in on the trade. They made a trade at a price that they were okay with, that did not sacrifice the long term. You know, Jalen Green was a second-round pick who didn't really pan out. Um, you know, we talked when they made the trade, if you're ranking the young players on the roster by future value, by long-term value, he might have been fifth or sixth on that list.' 'And then, you know, that they didn't really have like an immediate spot for the 10th overall pick in this year's draft. Hell, they couldn't squeeze the third overall pick in last year's draft into the rotation.' 'The Rockets aren't going to go all in. By all appearances and by what I've heard, they're not going all in on an extension for Kevin Durant. Now, doesn't mean it won't happen, but you know, there've been rumblings of, hey, KD doesn't, you know, he's not going to push for the full max.' 'Ummm, I don't know that the Rockets are going to put anything on the table that's close to the max. I think the Rockets are like it's not ideal, but I don't think they would panic if they go into the season with Kevin Durant just on the contract that he's on, just on the expiring deal.' MacMahon has some solid sources in the front office of the Rockets; therefore, the information he has given on Durant is almost as good as confirmed. It will be interesting to see what Durant feels about this. He could pull a Kawhi Leonard-type move like he did with the Raptors, where Leonard joined them for one season (2019) on an expiring contract, won them the championship with their young core, and left the next season for the Clippers. Depending on what Durant and his representatives feel about this, Durant could take a call on his future. If he fails to win a championship, he may not see an offer from the Rockets that he would like. And if he does, he could still leave like Leonard did. Or he could even earn that max contract and retire in Houston eventually. The Rockets also have a young core that is getting set for their extensions, like Tari Eason in 2025-26 and Amen Thompson the following year. Therefore, the Rockets need to decide between investing in an aging Kevin Durant for the long term or saving the salary cap space to pay the young stars what they deserve. The Rockets are certainly an exciting team to watch in the 2025-26 season. This season could determine where the franchise is headed in the story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Aug 8, 2025, where it first appeared.

Max Holloway Drops Concerning Update on Future Plans

Max Holloway Drops Concerning Update on Future Plans originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Holloway reveals injury setback weeks after win in UFC 318 main event After bouncing back from a devastating knockout loss to Ilia Topuria, Max Holloway made a triumphant return at UFC 318. Facing Dustin Poirier in a highly anticipated trilogy bout for the BMF belt—Poirier's official retirement fight—Holloway reminded fans of his elite status. He delivered a clean, calculated performance and walked away with a unanimous decision victory. Weeks later, though, a sobering update revealed that not all was well behind the scenes. In an exclusive post-fight recap video posted to his YouTube channel, Holloway shared that his right hand suffered more damage than expected. The featherweight-turned-lightweight contender admitted, 'If you're hoping to see me fight before the end of the year, that's probably not going to happen. I'm seeing a specialist sometime this week. I've already met with my doctor, and things aren't looking good for me to fight again this year.' The update casts doubt over his availability in what was shaping up to be a red-hot lightweight division. With this news, Holloway will likely sit on the sidelines and assess how the lightweight picture evolves in his absence. It's a frustrating development for the Hawaiian fan favorite, who just regained momentum with a unanimous decision win over Poirier. Holloway has fought three times at lightweight—twice against Poirier and once against Justin Gaethje—making this win even more meaningful. His absence delays any potential rematches with Charles Oliveira or Ilia Topuria, both of whom he previously faced at featherweight, or a second meeting with Justin Gaethje. The injury may have paused his run, but it hasn't killed the hype. As always, the UFC and Dana White are sure to craft something special for Holloway's eventual return—whenever that may be. Could Kevin Durant's contract extension with Rockets be for considerably less than max?

Kevin Durant in Houston feels like a hand-in-glove fit. The Rockets wanted Durant, and Houston was on his short list of places he wanted to be traded. When asked about the organization, Durant praised the Rockets. He fills the need for a half-court scoring threat that will open up their offense. The only question is the money on Durant's contract extension. Durant is in the final year of his current contract at $57.4 million. The Rockets can offer him a max two-year, $122.1 million extension (no team can offer Durant more than two years because of the over 38 rule). There was always an expectation that Durant would take a bit of a haircut off that max number, but that cut may be deeper than just a haircut, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon and Brian Windhorst on the Hoop Collective podcast (hat tip Hoopshype). MacMahon: "By all appearances and by what I've heard, they're not going all in on an extension for Kevin Durant. Now, doesn't mean it won't happen, but there've been rumblings of KD not going to push for the full max. I don't know that the Rockets are going to put anything on the table that's close to the max." Windhorst: "I think the Rockets are like it's not ideal, but I don't think they would panic if they go into the season with Kevin Durant just on the contract that he's on just on the on the expiring deal... I'll say this, Rafael Stone, since he's been the GM of the of the Rockets, he's signed quite a few giant contracts, but a lot most of them have been short." The contract has to be short in this case, but what is a fair number for the future Hall of Famer? One source who spoke to NBC Sports during Summer League suggested KD might dip to about the $100 million mark for two years, around $10 million a season below the max but still $50 million a season. However, maybe that number is too high. Maybe Durant will take less — he has the right to make whatever choice he thinks is best for him, his legacy and his family. Maybe everyone is comfortable going into the season without an extension and seeing how things play out. That said, we are more than a month out from the start of training camps, and a lot of deals get done right around the beginning of camp. This is all just something to watch.
